Release Information

Beatmania IIDX 16 EMPRESS.png

  • Location test dates: June 25th to July 1st, 2008
  • Release date: November 19th, 2008
  • Soundtrack release date:
  • Slogan: 超、頂、蝶、煌く (Chou, chou, chou, kirameku)
    • Though it literally means "Super Sparkling Crown and Butterflies", it could be also read to mean "Super, super, super sparkly" due to a pun involving the word "chou" in Japanese.

General Information / Changes

  • Interface features pink and fuchsia, with a jewel and butterfly motif.
    • New songs are also in pink text; FULL COMBO splashes are pink as well.
  • Last arcade beatmania IIDX game to date to use the original beatmania IIDX logo.
  • New sound effects are added to the menus and result screens.
  • AiMEE provides the default menu category voice.
  • Last game where the options you have chosen appear on the pre-song splash screen, ending a tradition that began in 8th style.
  • First appearance of HAZARD mode. It is available by highlighting FREE mode and pressing the three black keys.
    • Breaking combo in HAZARD results in instant failure of a song. However, you're guaranteed four songs regardless of status on the first three.
    • Clear rate indicator changes to FULL COMBO rate in HAZARD.
  • First arcade beatmania IIDX game where all the new songs are given full Double charts.
  • All dj nagureo songs made after 4th style have been removed; several BeForU songs were removed as well.
    • With 37 removed songs, beatmania IIDX 16 EMPRESS has the highest number of removed songs since 10th style.
    • Conversely, all non-license SLAKE songs have been revived, except for I'M FOR REAL and LOVE IS DROWING.
  • First arcade style where both the default EXTRA STAGE and the ONE MORE EXTRA STAGE are composed by commission artists.
  • The beatmania IIDX 16 EMPRESS ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK booklet contains a review of the entire soundtrack by top ranker beatmania IIDX player DOLCE.
  • First beatmania IIDX game whose soundtrack was released on the Japanese iTunes store, under the title beatmania IIDX 16 EMPRESS Music Selection.
    • Despite the "Music Selection" subtitle, it contains all the KONAMI originals from the game.
  • eAMUSEMENT support for beatmania IIDX 16 EMPRESS ended on December 31st, 2009 for non-mobile users, and on January 31st, 2010 for mobile users.
  • Total songs: 533

EXTRA STAGE / ONE MORE EXTRA STAGE

beat #1 (Programmed World / 3y3s)

To unlock the secret EXTRA STAGE song Programmed World in beatmania IIDX 16 EMPRESS, you must have the machine set on three stages (not four) and then meet the following conditions, depending on the difficulty level:

  • NORMAL: 15 or more combined levels (Single), 12+ (Double)
  • HYPER: 25+ (Single), 22+ (Double)
  • ANOTHER: 31+ (Single), 28+ (Double)

In addition to meeting the above level requirements, you must also get a AA on all three songs while meeting the usual EXTRA STAGE credentials for FINAL STAGE:

  • Level 1-4: ALL GREAT (1-3 Double)
  • Level 5-6: FULL COMBO (4-5 Double)
  • Level 7: clear song with 100% gauge (either regular or HARD) (6 on Double)
  • Level 8+: clear (7+ on Double)

You will then move on to Programmed World. Completing the song on ANOTHER with a AAA will allow to play ONE MORE EXTRA STAGE song 3y3s.

As of January 7th, 2009 (beat #1), both songs are available for regular play.

beat #3 (hidden ONE MORE EXTRA STAGE)

beatmania IIDX 16 EMPRESS also has three other ONE MORE EXTRA STAGE songs, but you must reach certain criteria first to unlock them. The three songs and their requirements are as follows:

  • BITTER CHOCOLATE STRIKER
    • FULL COMBO more than 100 charts across all difficulty levels in the EMPRESS folder.
    • EXTRA STAGE must be a L.E.D. song.
  • 不沈艦CANDY
    • You must play every dj TAKA song in the game.
      • NOTE: unlocking PUT YOUR FAITH IN ME(for beatmania II) is required.
    • EXTRA STAGE must be a dj TAKA song.

In addition, your EXTRA STAGE song must be on ANOTHER at least 11 (Single) / level 10 (Double) (except for Colorful Cookie's case), with HARD on while obtaining a AAA. Once you fulfill the requirements, you can play one of the three songs below on ONE MORE EXTRA STAGE.

All three songs were unlocked for normal play on March 25th, 2009 (end of beat #3).

EMPRESS PLACE

EMPRESS PLACE is the EXTRA STAGE system of beatmania IIDX 16 EMPRESS, which started on December 3rd, 2008. This will only appear with one player only. eAMUSEMENT is required to play this event.

The goal is to collect 12 types of jewels to unlock the songs on EXTRA STAGE. There are 12 types of jewels you can collect, and how many of each you can hold. Playing on BEGINNER or TUTORIAL will not give you jewels:

  • January: garnet (red), eight
  • February: amethyst (purple), 12
  • March: coral (red), 12
  • April: diamond (transparent), three
  • May: emerald (green), five
  • June: pearl (white), 15
  • July: ruby (red), five
  • August: peridot (green), nine
  • September: sapphire (blue), three
  • October: opal (aqua), seven
  • November: topaz (yellow), eight
  • December: turquoise (blue), 15

To unlock a chart, players have to acquire at least four jewels, with four for NORMAL, five for HYPER and six for ANOTHER. Please see BEMANIWiki on jewel requirements changes depending on the month. Doing so and the EMPRESS PLACE folder will appear during the Extra Stage, and the player is locked onto the folder once it opened (the game will warn players on playing songs with extreme difficulty). Note that arcade settings must be set to three songs for it to appear.

Completing all three songs on a difficulty level on HARD with a AAA will allow you to access 卑弥呼 on ONE MORE EXTRA STAGE for that difficulty level.

EMPRESS PLACE ended on February 18th, 2009 (beat #2). All songs were then unlocked for normal play.
