What are the game changes between classic GF/DM and GF/DM XG?

The major changes to the games are the inclusion of two extra frets on GuitarFreaks, and an additional bass pedal, cymbal, and tom on DrumMania, which provide for larger and more varied and difficult charts. Refer to the Gameplay Changes section of the GuitarFreaksXG & DrumManiaXG page for more information.

How are Skill Points calculated?

GF/DM V4-V7 Formula

Skill Ratio for GuitarFreaks = Perfect% x 0.80 + Great% x 0.20 + Combo% + 0.20 (percents as decimals)
Skill Ratio for DrumMania = Perfect% x 0.80 + Great% x 0.30 + Combo% + 0.20 (percents as decimals)

Then:

Song Skill Points = Skill Ratio x Song Level x 0.33 x (0.5 if using Auto-anything, 1 otherwise)

Total Skill Points = Combined best 14 new song results, 36 old song results, and 3 long song results.

GF/DM XG Formula

Achievement Ratio for GuitarFreaks = Perfect% x 0.85 + Great% x 0.25 + Combo% + 0.15 (percents as decimals)
Achievement Ratio for DrumMania = Perfect% x 0.85 + Great% x 0.35 + Combo% + 0.15 (percents as decimals)

Then:

Song Skill Points = Achievement Ratio x Song Level x 20 x Modifier Reduction

GF Reduction Modifiers:

  • Auto Neck/Pick = 0
  • 2-Lane Play = 0
  • 3-Lane Play = 0.25
  • 4-Lane Play = 0.50

DM Reduction Modifiers:

  • Auto Left Cymbal+Left Pedal+Floor Tom (i.e. pads new to DM XG) = 0
  • Auto Both Pedals = 0.25
  • Mirror Type B = 0.50

Total Skill Points = Combined best 25 new song results and best 25 old song results.

(Formula information obtained from the BEMANIwiki pages for GuitarFreaks & DrumMania.)
