Gameplay

REFLEC BEAT is a touch-screen game, also a duel music game.
The game board is a rectangular shape with two base judgement line on both sides. One is the red player side, another is the blue player side.
Players are required to touch their own color notes when it is reached to the judgement line / judgement point.
When a note is being touched, a sound will be played. Somehow, it is like a hockey game.

Notes

All notes are called オブジェクト in Japanese which is "Object" in English. There are several types of notes.

  • 通常オブジェクト(BLACK) [Black Normal Object]
    • A red or blue color note with black edge.
    • All notes are moved straightly in random path (may reflect at the side wall) from rival side to their own side.
    • Players are required to touch their own color note when it is reached to their base judgement line.
    • Note will be disappeared when it is being touched.
  • 通常オブジェクト (GOLD) [Gold Normal Object]
    • A red or blue color note with gold edge.
    • It is similar to the "Black Normal Object"
    • Difference: It will reflect one or more (Can be many) notes with rival color.
    • The only note that can perform "JUST REFLEC".
  • ロングオブジェクト [Long Object]
    • A long note in red or blue color
    • All notes are moved straightly in random path (may reflect at the side wall) from rival side to their own side.
    • Players are required to touch their own color note and hold until the note reached the finishing point when it is reached to their base judgement line.
    • Note will be disappeared afterward.
  • TOPオブジェクト [Top Object]
    • A note in green color with red or blue arrow
    • Unlike "Normal Object", players are required to touch their own color note when it is reached to their top judgement point (Above the judgement line).
    • Notes straightly towards the top judgement point.
  • TOPロングオブジェクト [Top Long Object] (introduced in REFLEC BEAT limelight)
    • A green long note with red or blue arrow at the starting
    • A mixed type of "Top Object" and "Long Object"
    • Players are required to touch their own color note and hold until the note reached the finishing point when it is reached to their top judgement point (Above the judgement line).
    • Notes straightly towards the top judgement point.
  • チェインオブジェクト [Chain Object]
    • A series of objects (Can be "Normal Objects" or "Top Objects", but would not be mixed type.)
    • There will be a lighting connection between notes
    • The touching point and time spacing of each notes must be same for the whole chain object.
    • The last object can be a "Long Object".
  • Touching at same time
    • There is a possible of touch several objects at the same time.(Current highest is 5 objects at same time. First Best Record song: FLOWER in HARD)
    • Any objects required for two or more touches at the same time will have an extra gold surrounding.(For long notes, only the starting point will be considered.)

Difficulty

  • There are three difficulty, BASIC, MEDIUM, HARD.
  • REFLEC BEAT
    • BASIC
      • Basic level with only the base judgment line on game board with no "Top Object".
    • MEDIUM
      • Advanced level with base judgement line and two top judgment points on left and on right.
    • HARD
      • Extreme level with base judgement line and two top judgment points on left and on right.
  • REFLEC BEAT limelight
    • BASIC
      • Basic level with base judgement line and two top judgment points on left and on right. (Unlike REFLEC BEAT, some song on BASIC have "Top Object")
    • MEDIUM
      • Advanced level with base judgement line and two top judgment points on left and on right.
    • HARD
      • Extreme level with base judgement line and three top judgment points on left, on right and at the middle.

Score

Higher Score will be the winner.
However, the Score System has its own counting method, which is not based on the % rating.
There is a possibility that having a higher score even having a lower rating against the rival.
Also, the score is can be deducted.(Until it reached zero.)

Judgement

Four types of judgement (From Best to Worst)

  • JUST → +3
  • GREAT → +2
  • GOOD → +1
  • MISS → -3

No POOR when it is touched an empty space.

JUST REFLEC

-- One of the key-point for winning in this game. Remind that only gold normal object (even in chain object) can be reflected.
To perform a JUST REFLEC, players need to charge up the JUST REFLEC GAUGE first.
Touch and slide the "Gold Normal Object" will preform JUST REFLEC. (The judgement of that note must be "JUST".)
The next object will be given to rival under JUST REFLEC status.
Each bar can perform JUST REFLEC once, and that bar will be used.

  • Features:
    • The notes will become a meteor-like object.
    • It can be any type of notes. (For chain object, only the first chain object will be considered as JUST REFLEC status.)
    • The notes will be move fast and may reflect at the side wall more. (Maximum twice for Normal Object, and once for Top object). More harder to catch.
    • Performing JUST REFLEC will give extra 10 points on score.(Including the JUST judgement, that note will be 13 points.)
    • However, miss the note under JUST REFLEC will deduct 10 points more. (Missing a JUST REFLEC note will total deduct 13 points.)

Full Combo

-- Another key-point for winning in this game.
Extra points will be given for full combo.
Extra points will be given for 1 miss and 2 misses in REFLEC BEAT limelight.

Difference on different color side

Since there are two colors of player, red and blue. However, they have different note pattern.

  • Note Pattern

The note pattern is not same for both side.
Sometimes, only one side have been note at particular time.
On that moment, only that side of played required to touch that note. Opposite side will play an extra sound represents that note.
Even the note pattern is different, the total number of notes on both sides must be same.

  • Last Note of JUST REFLEC

-- The only unfair part in this game.
Due to different on note pattern, the last gold normal object can be appeared at different last numbers of note for both sides.
For example, if last gold normal object for red is one before last, and blue is seven before last.
Red have more chance to fill up the JUST REFLEC GAUGE and perform JUST REFLEC.
It implys that red can have chance for better score than blue.
