DIET MODE unlock conditions?

The page used to say that the condition for unlocking DIET MODE was to unlock all 12 BG COLLECTION backgrounds, but that can't be correct because I have DIET MODE unlocked but only 2 of the backgrounds so far. I haven't been able to find any information about what the proper conditions are in the FAQs on GameFAQs.
