IIDX Community Inside Jokes
You've found the thrilling page where you can finally learn about what the hell all those dumb jokes are. They're too cool!

Rislim Remix
This joke manifests itself as anything relating to playing a song at certain hours, being in love with a song, effective ways of appreciating a song, particular times of the year to purchase IIDX games, or anything relating to Rislim Remix.

During a conversation on the VJ Army Forums about what preview songs might appear on CS 8th style, the following conversation took place:

;Azure, Post #191
:As for the preview song, I just hope it's not Quasar or Rislim -remix- because I really want those play those for the first time in 9th and not in 8th as preview songs.

;grayfox9996, Post #192
:Quasar's one of the extra stages (right? if that needs correcting...), so that's doubtful. Rislim -remix- is perfectly likely, and I don't see why you wouldn't want to play it on 8th Style. The sooner the better, eh?

;Azure, Post #193
:I don't want to play Rislim -Remix- right now because I first heard it in the summer and fell in love with it. Right now, I'm busy with school, so I won't be able to enjoy it as much when it comes out in 8th Style, but when 9th comes out (Hopefully next summer) I'll have the whole summer to play the song (During this summer I would stay up pretty late watching the Rislim -Remix- video and I'd like to do the same when I get the chance to play it). The same is with Quasar, but to a lesser degree. These two songs really kick ass and it wouldn't do them justice if they were placed with 8th Style and not 9th Style, which has the best interface of them all (And best results screen too).

;Shapermc, Post #196
:You know if it comes out in Nov. that you can just WAIT until you have time... like a weekend or winter break...

;Azure, Post #198
:I am going to wait. I'm going to get it right when my winter break starts, which is 2 weeks, but I'll most likely still have lots of projects to be doing during that break and I'll also be studying for finals, which is why it wouldn't be a good time for Rislim -Remix- or Quasar.

;Remy, Post #201
:Azure, please seek medical assistance. I'm serious. You're having this whole hypothetical conversation about if THESE two songs are on 8th Style, then you don't want to get the game right at release. You don't want to get the game right at release because you want to be able to play those songs in the summer. You want to play those songs in the summer because you stayed up for hours on end this past summer watching the videos over and over again. This doesn't seem the least bit strange to you?

;Azure, Post #202
:These songs are very nice songs and I wouldn't be able to enjoy to their full extent if I would be playing them when the school year isn't over. If 8th Style came out tomorrow I would wait till Decemeber to buy it because then I would have a nice 2 weeks of no school to play it. I do the same with every other game. The game won't get the attention it deserves if I get it during school; the same with the songs.

I guess a lot of just came from that BOX& video. In the video it looks like it's 2:00 a.m and he's been playing IIDX for hours on end enjoying himself. == Truly A Fantastic ==

written by Dan "Remy" Dickinson

When Konami announced that they were doing surveys to gauge interest in reviving the CS release of IIDX (prior to the release of 7th), there was widespread concern that the survey would not get enough responses to qualify for the game. This worry was not only felt in the US, but also in Japan.

As a manifestation of this concern, one Japanese player took it upon himself to write anyone who ran any sort of English web page relating to Beatmania. His email (long since lost) pleaded for US webmasters to inform everyone of the survey and get them to fill it out. I know he sent nearly the same email to everyone after comparing with a friend, but mine had a small PS that read:

P.S. I watch dj RYRY superplay video. It's a fantastic!!

This was in reference to a video of Ryan's I had mirrored, and which I found cute enough to tell Ryan about. I then wrote back in very gentle English, thanking him and asking him some general questions about the Japanese scene. During the back-and-forth that ensued, questions were asked to be passed onto Ryry about "if doubles were carried out" and "if the pinky extends"; the word "truly" was used a lot as well.

To this day, a number of us will still joke about things being "truly a fantastic".

Peview
The 10th CS site launch was notable due to being the first IIDX site with audio-visual previews of the new CS songs.

With one small and hilarious problem: the button to click to view them was labeled as Peview. This has since been corrected but, like all good Engrish typos, will live in infamy.

Fake Location Test Songs
It is traditional for fake songs to float around the community when games go into location test, as crafty players try to pass off the most plausible crap on unsuspecting fanboys desperate for MP3s.

The most notable of all fake location test songs was M, which appeared during the 8th Style Location Test period. Credited to dj TAKA, based on a Beethoven song (Sonata quasi una fantasia Moonlight Sonata, Mvt. 3 "Presto Agitato"), and sounding similar enough to V, it convinced enough players that it was legit to place it in the hall of fame for IIDX-related pranks.

V
V is widely considered an inside joke at this point, as it appeared on nine CS games, and six consecutive ones (5th-10th, BMUS, Happy Sky, Empress+Premium Best). ("You can't spell revival without V.") Many players take this as a sign that Konami hates them.

When V was not revived for RED CS, many players took this as a sign that Konami hated them by ruining their joke. V was then absent from CS styles until CS EMPRESS where V on the Premium Best disc alongside V2 which was on the EMPRESS Disc.

Last Message
Last Message's video features a three-second long cleavage shot that many players consider distracting. Many a combo has been blown during that section of the song.

BLCOKS
A mistyped response by MazriM TaiM during the second Music Tatsujin Challenge that fell into popular usage. Similarly, but not quite as popular, was the song GOBBLE being typed as "Gooble" in the fourth Music Tatsujin Challenge.

As a possible extension of this, while the listings for IIDX RED were being entered into VJ Army, the listing for Blocks contained a similarly misspelled genre - "TRNACE". This was not entirely intentional, and the typo has since been fixed.

A few people also took this even further and deliberately misspelled the artist name - "SPRAKER" - in order to complete the joke.

GXPERT
In AC RED's mode select screen, the word "EXPERT" was accidentally misspelled as "GXPERT." This has since been corrected, but, like "PEVIEW", is still a source of amusement to IIDX players.

Picture of GXPERT MODE on the IIDX RED machine at Golfland in Mesa, AZ. (Taken by Taren)

Truck Me
Injection of Love contains a line that was controversial at the time IIDX RED was released, and there was a great deal of debate over what Sana was actually saying. When the keysounded BMS simfile for Injection of Love was released, the keysound for this lyric ended up sounding more like "truck me". It was later confirmed that she said "stroke me", but "truck me" remains a somewhat popular inside joke.

Laundry Machines
The sound of the song Gigadelic has often been compared in the community to the sound of a large number of washer/dryers all running at once. Taren is responsible for this; it began when a test location video of Gigadelic was released, and due to the poor sound quality, he commented that it sounded like "an off-balance washing machine".

Kyle Snyder / Mirror Force / Engulfed Beam / You Can't Escape Me
Kyle Snyder has always been a highly visible character in the Bemani community, primarily due to his unusual DDR freestyles.

Back around the release of 8th Style, Konami announced their first Musicianship Trial, allowing fans to submit music in hopes of getting it included in the series. Shortly thereafter, Kyle would have a dream where he was playing the new IIDX and there was a song on it called "Mirror Force". Some guy said to him "You should be able to pass that song, right? After all, you made it" and then he noticed that he did, in fact, make it. But it was really hard.

It was viewed as a clear attempt by Konami to commission him for a new song for the next IIDX via dream-o-vision, and so Mirror Force was made. He promised that it would appear around 11th Style, and recorded two other tracks: Engulfed Beam, and You Can't Escape Me.

While musical taste is entirely subjective, the songs were uniformly regarded as being unpleasant on the ears. They remain an inside joke to this day.

You can listen to all three tracks, as well as some others that Kyle completed, at his Soundclick page.

(credit to Xythar for recollection of the dream)

GAMBOL
When Gambol first appeared, many players noticed the timing was, to put it mildly, horrible. It was difficult to get Just Greats or Greats; most everyone ended up getting a majority of Goods on the song.

When Gambol was revived around 9th Style, the timing still was not fixed. Since it was featured in Beginner Mode, many new players attempted it and were failed out due to the inability to push themselves into the red.

On Happy Sky, the L7 chart received fixed timing, but the 7-key chart mysteriously did not.

On RED CS, Konami's ultimate inside joke was unleashed on the community as an Another chart was added (accessibly only via the Slake course at the current time). All three SP charts are exactly the same; the only difference is the timing. While the L7 will allow most players to score Greats, and the 7 chart continues to give most players Goods, the Another chart has even more ridiculously broken timing and will hand out Bads like they are Halloween candy.

Perhaps to further the joke, CS DJ TROOPERS has a code in which Gambol's timing can be used for any song, by pressing select after songs beginning with G, J, and H for Hyper timing, or G, J, and A for the another timing.

This was added later to AC EMPRESS.

Gold Rush
Gold Rush is a remix of the opening and menu music from IIDX GOLD, available from the VIP Room system. The song however, is often ridiculed for its horrible vocals, an interpretation of the lyrics by Xythar made the song even funnier, and variants of a recurring message in the video, "Make it make money", are also often referenced. Despite this, Michael a la mode has become something of a celebrity in the Japanese Bemani community from this single song, making an appearance Bemani Topranker 2008 Semifinal for Japan's Kinki region and appearing in IIDX DJ TROOPERS in the Tutorial Mode and a sound of clip of him saying "Let's do it!!" is available as part of one of the customizable select music.

A new version of Gold Rush has been made for Pop'n Music, as well as two versions for Dance Dance Revolution. Each version changes the games that are shown and called out to match the series it appears on, with the two DDR versions corresponding to AC versions and CS versions, respectively.

Buttons has his own website and, for some reason, has appeared on Twitter..

Setsugekka
During the long-awaited release of 7th style CS, the IIDX community as a whole was surprised and excited to see that not only had Konami included an 8th style song in the game (murmur twins), which was selected from a player poll, but Konami had secretly included a 9th style song as well (Abyss -The Heavens Remix-). In addition, during the early hours of 7th style's release, an anonymous poster claimed that Setsugekka from the then-brand-new 10th style AC was also included. This turned out to be false; however, during 8th style's release, there was much speculation and rumor that Setsugekka was being included in 8th style, which also proved false. During the 9th style release, still more rumors and even a few faked photos purported that Setsugekka was included, and by that point the phenomenon had taken on a life of its own. To this day, people still joke about Setsugekka being included "as a preview song" in current releases.

Alternate grading methods
While beatmania US was in production, it was noticed at E3 2005 that the grading system for the game was toned down considerably, shifting all grades up one level automatically (such that a score that would warrant a AA on a Japanese game would be a AAA for US players).

This lead to "US locale" mode being implemented, which allowed the appending of "&locale=usa" to any query URL on the site to force all grades to appear as AAAs.

Example:

During the ensuing discussion, davidbrit2 made a comment that "they can change the grades to "cat" and "sailboat" for all I care, so long as the timing and EX scoring is the same." This lead to the implementation (on April Fools 2006) of catsailboat mode, which replaces all AAAs with a picture of dj BTNS, and all other grades with a picture of a sailboat. This is done by appending "&catsailboat=on" to any query URL on the site.

Example:

Neither of these work on 4.0 - yet.

Himiko? FUCK THAT SHIT! PABST BLUE RIBBON
In an IRC chat, DjKc iidx's reaction to this boss song from AC EMPRESS was a funny line from the movie Blue Velvet. Because of this, VgameT had a brilliant idea into having everyone post the words "Himiko? FUCK THAT SHIT! PABST BLUE RIBBON" in every video of the song in existence from YouTube to even niconico douga. Almost all comments in a Himiko video contained "Himiko? FUCK THAT SHIT! PABST BLUE RIBBON", then even non-VJA members started imitating as well. The more serious comments about the song were marked as spam.

The joke was funny until certain people abused the meme, thus it is one of the few inside jokes to become completely unfunny.

It seems as if he doesn't have a care in the world and doesn't care what time it is, he's just relaxing and playing IIDX (Particularly Rislim -Remix-). I'd like to do the same because, I believe, that would be the most efficient way to appreciate Rislim -Remix-.

This entry was derived from the Wikipedia entry on beatmania IIDX, which may or may not be more up to date than this one.

beatmania IIDX (alternately beatmaniaIIDX or just IIDX, pronounced "two dee-ecks") is a series of rhythm video games introduced by Konami in 1999. It is the direct sequel to the beatmania game series, and part of the Bemani line of music games.

Cabinet information
beatmania IIDX controls consist of seven (instrument) keys (four white, three black) along with one turntable on each player's side. The turntable for the left player's side, 1Player, is on the left of the keys, while the one on the right player's side, 2Player, is on the right.

Under the 16:9 wide display are the start button, the effector button, and effector sliders. After beatmaniaIIDX 9th style, there is also a cardreader, in order to use the magnetic card of e-AMUSEMENT. In 9th style, the effector no longer operates, but it has been revived in 10th style with modified slide switch function. Different versions of the game are traditionally referred to as 'styles', with higher numbers being the most recent machines. The series currently reaches from the first style produced all the way to 10th style. According to GOLI, 10th style was the last IIDX series with an "n-th style". beatmania IIDX 11: IIDX RED became the first IIDX series with a theme and title, followed by beatmania IIDX 12: HAPPY SKY, and so forth. Each series produced has a different mix of songs from older styles and new songs, and has a different graphical 'theme'.

The main differences in hardware between the IIDX series and the original beatmania series are the presence of two extra keys, the wide screen and the more powerful speakers. This hardware difference was never actually intended to become the standard beatmania IIDX cabinet. Originally, Konami had planned to develop and release two different versions of arcade cabinets, a version similar to that of its predecessor beatmania and its ill-fated successor beatmania III, and a 'deluxe' cabinet with a 'DX' suffix on the end of the name. Konami scrapped the standard cabinet mid-development, but the 'DX' suffix stuck and has remained throughout the series.

Home versions
Konami has also released home versions of the game, for the PlayStation 2 console. Eleven versions are available in Japan, while one is available in the US. The game is stored in a DVD media, and can be bought with a controller that matches the arcade version very closely. The controller's key insert is detachable, so the player may attach it as preferred on the left or the right side of the turntable. The home versions do not exactly match the arcade versions, but are very similar. To date, home versions of 3rd Style through IIDX13 DistorteD have been released in Japan; the US release is titled simply "Beatmania" and does not correspond to an arcade version at all.

Gameplay
The gameplay is still the same as in beatmania, with the addition of two extra keys: there are 8 columns on the screen, corresponding to each of the keys and the turntable. While playing, small horizontal bars fall straight through each of these columns, and the player must press the right key (or play the scratch) when the bar touches the bottom of the column, no sooner and no later. The correct timings for the notes follow the beat of the music, so the player has to have a very keen sense of rhythm.

Every time a key is pressed or the scratch is played, an instrument is played to complement the song. So, in order to hear the song correctly, the player must get the bars on the right timing. Additionally, the game shows a rating (flashing Great, Great, Good, Bad or Poor) for each falling bar that's played by the user.

The objective of the game is twofold: pass songs and get a good grade. Passing a song enables you to continue playing up to a three song limit, plus possible extra stages. Grade measures your performance and is used for ranking among players. The beatmania games are very peculiar in that passing a song and getting a good score on it are almost totally unrelated; one can theoretically pass a song with an F and fail with a AAA, although this is rare in practice.

During gameplay, the player gets performance feedback from two sources. One is a life bar (often referred to as the "groove gauge") at the bottom of the screen. The other is rating text in front of the falling notes. The life bar is increased moderately by flashing Greats and Greats, slightly by Goods, depleted somewhat by Bads and heavily by Poors; the emphasis is clearly on missing as few notes as possible. To pass a song, the life bar has to be at 80% or above at the end of a song. Consequently, the only thing that matters as far as passing a song is concerned is getting the ending right, and as such a lot of songs have a sudden jump in difficulty at the end to cause the player to lose that crucial top 20% of life and fail.

The difficulty of songs is measured in 'stars', however the system has not remained concrete. The newest styles often contain songs harder than the star system can accurately represent, and as such is constantly revised which each new style. Originally, the difficulty ratings ranged from one to seven "stars". In IIDX 5th style, a "flashing seven" difficulty debuted, although they would not actually flash until 6th style. IIDX 9th style introduced new difficulties by Level, in which "flashing 7's" are replaced with Level 7+. In 10th style, the maximum difficulty was raised from Level 7+ to Level 8. IIDX RED (beatmania IIDX 11: IIDX RED, the first IIDX series with an individual theme title) debuted Level 8+. As of beatmania IIDX 12: HAPPY SKY, the difficulty system was completely overhauled, and all songs are now rated on a scale of Level 1 to Level 12, Level 1 being the easiest, Level 12 being the most difficult.

Many players consider a pass to be rather arbitrarily determined, and so the usual focus is on getting as high a grade as possible. Grades (a feature that came about as of 6th style) are determined by the player's "EX Score", which is the number of Flashing Greats (also known as Just Great) times two plus the number of Greats. 8/9ths of the maximum or above yields a AAA, 7/9ths or above is a AA, and so on down to a minimum of F. Getting the maximum possible EX Score on a song(ie all Flashing Greats) is generally considered an unrealistic goal, if not impossible. Despite this, some very good players have been known to achieve this feat, albeit on some of the easier songs in the game.

beatmania IIDX has long been a 'cult' game because of the sheer learning curve of the game for new players, unlike other Bemani games like Dance Dance Revolution. The machine is often found in Japanese arcades, but they are rare in American arcades with absolutely none at all in the United Kingdom.

Game modes
;BEGINNER
:This mode was added in 9th style (5th style for home version). In the arcade, Beginner limits the list of songs available to only 1-3 star songs, thus severely limiting the number of songs available in a game. In the home versions, Beginner gives an alternate note chart for nearly all songs, rated from 1-3. These alternative note charts are not available in the arcade.
*As of IIDX 11: RED, Beginner Mode's charts are all 1-Star and are impossible to fail out of.
;LIGHT7 / NORMAL
:This mode is a degree of difficulty lower than 7KEYS. On LIGHT7, the game will not end if you fail the first stage. Before 8th style, it was possible to attain the extra stage by playing in this mode. You may play the 7KEYS difficulty for a song by holding down the VEFX button when selecting the song.
:In IIDX 12: HAPPY SKY, this difficulty was renamed "Normal".
;7KEYS / HYPER
:This is the standard play mode. When a fixed condition is satisfied on the last song, you can get an extra stage.
:In IIDX 12: HAPPY SKY, this difficulty was renamed "Hyper"
;ANOTHER
:Most players will agree this is the hardest mode by far. The key configuration and 'charts' are similar to that of 7KEYS, but are often harder and not as straight forward. Even if you can complete a song on 7KEYS, you may not even be able to get too far on ANOTHER. To play a song on ANOTHER, you must select 7KEYS from the menu and then select the song while holding down the VEFX button. Songs in ANOTHER difficulty were not given separate difficulty ratings in IIDX 1-11, which was often misleading as the difficulty meter showed the same rating as the 7KEYS variation. As of IIDX 12: HAPPY SKY, songs in ANOTHER difficulty were given a separate rating. Not every song has an ANOTHER version. Some tracks have an Another that sounds different from the original song.
;4KEYS
:Replaced in 3rd Style by LIGHT7, this was intended as a beginner-friendly mode that used only the four white keys. Available only on 1st, Substream, and 2nd style.
;5KEYS
:Available for home versions as a specific mode, this plays exactly as 7KEYS, except for the idea that the last two keys farthest from the turntable are not used. This is probably a compatibility issue with original beatmania controllers, so that owners of the original could still somewhat play beatmania IIDX, only having the 5-key controller at hand. In arcade versions of IIDX, 5KEYS has been available from the start as a special gameplay option, most likely as an attempt to help players of the original series make the transition. Starting with 7th style AC (and 10th style CS), 5KEYS can be used with notecharts other than the ordinary 7KEYS mode.
;EXPERT
:This mode is one in which you can play a course of songs in a row without stopping. You start with the gauge at its maximum; if it drops to 0, the game is over. The gauge is the same as that used in Hard mode in normal play, but drops at a much slower rate.
;CLASS / DAN / Step Rank Recognition
:This is basically the same as EXPERT, but as for options, you can only select HI-SPEED, and each course has four songs. The combination of songs differs for every difficulty, which is the difference between this and EXPERT.
;FREE
:Practice mode. You can play to the end of a song and won't fail, but you get one song less than if you were to play LIGHT7 or 7KEYS. (Usually, you'd get 3 songs if you played LIGHT7 or 7KEYS; you only get 2 with FREE.)

Furthermore, when DOUBLE is selected in the options selection screen before the game starts, "7" changes to "14", and you use both sides to play.

Gameplay modifiers
*In Autoscratch, the turntable is played automatically, not requiring player input. In home versions, scores are not recorded with this modifier activated, since it affects the EX Score requirements for each grade.
*Hi-Speed increases the scroll rate of the note chart. It is important to point out that the actual notes do not have to be pressed any more quickly; the scroll speed is simply increased and the notes become further apart. Most beatmania IIDX players use High Speed to make the notes easier to read. Most versions of beatmania IIDX have more than one High Speed setting, differentiated by numbers (a higher number means a faster speed.) The High Speed modifier is traditionally abbreviated HS with the number immediately following. For example, High Speed 2 is abbreviated HS2. In styles from IIDX 13 - DistorteD AC and IIDX 11 - IIDX RED CS onward, the player is able to change High Speeds during actual gameplay. Starting on IIDX HAPPY SKY and 10th Style CS Hi-Speed options moved to .5 intervals ranging from no speed to Hi-Speed 4 or 5.
*On Easy, the gauge does not decrease as quickly and rises faster than usual.
*On Hard, the gauge functions differently. It begins at 100%, and the song will immediately end if it reaches 0% (but on the other hand, you will pass if you simply reach the end of the song without failing partway). The gauge decreases very fast in this mode, as much as 10% for every missed note. Bads and extraneous hits cost 6%, as much as a missed note without Hard. However, the gauge rises by 0.16% for each Great or better, and stays unchanged for Goods. Ironically, the Hard modifier is known to make certain songs with difficult ending sections easier to clear. The Hard gauge was slightly altered in beatmania USA, 10th Style, and HAPPY SKY, to make the penalties less harsh when the gauge is below 30%.
*On Random, the song's notechart is temporarily altered. All the notes for each key are assigned to another key, picked at random. It should be noted that this is done on a per-key and not a per-note basis, so for instance an alternating sequence of two keys would still be on two keys (but probably not the same two keys as before). Random can make songs with many scale-type maneuvers easier. Note that only the keys are randomised; scratches are not affected.
*Random+, introduced in IIDX 11 - IIDX RED AC (8th CS), is like Random, except that the scratch column is included in the randomisation process, so the scratches usually end up assigned to a key, and a key gets assigned to the scratch. This modifier usually completely changes the character of the note chart, so scores obtained using this modifier are not recorded.
*S-Random, introduced in IIDX 12 - HAPPY SKY AC, is like Random, except that this is done on a per-note basis. S-Random has been available on CS versions since 10th CS (Where it had to be unlocked, on RED and later it's selectable by default), but scores were considered invalid and were not recorded until IIDX 12 HAPPY SKY CS.
*Samurai S-Random, introduced in IIDX 12 - HAPPY SKY AC (IIDX 10th CS), is similar to S-Random in that notes are changed on a per-note basis, however "jackhammer" patterns (repeated presses on the same key) will not occur. The option is available to those players who have cleared 10th Dan on IIDX 12 HAPPY SKY, and unlocked in IIDX 10th CS by highlighting any song in the NEW MUSIC folder starting with the letter "S" then pressing select, any new song starting with the letter "R" then pressing select, then highlighting any new song starting with the letter "A" then pressing select, and finally highlighting any new song starting with the letter "N" then pressing select. The "new song" requirement is not present in versions following 10th CS. The song select sound clip and another sound clip from 1st Samurai should play signifying the option has been unlocked. The S-Random option will now be Samurai S-Random. Since Happy Sky CS does not have any songs that start with "N", songs with artist names starting with these letters must be used. This must be repeated after every time the game is shut down. As with the other special randoms, Samurai S-Random changes the character of the chart, so scores and clears obtained using it are not recorded.
*Mirror flips the note layout so, for example, all notes that would normally correspond to the extreme left-hand key now correspond to the extreme right-hand key, and so forth.
*Mirror+, introduced in 9th style CS, is like Mirror, except the scratch column is included. Like Random+, scores obtained using this modifier are not recorded.
*On Sudden, notes only become visible when they enter the lower portion of the screen. The visible portion is approximately a third of the screen. It can be enabled at the same time as Hidden, causing the notes to briefly blink in the middle of their respective lanes.
*Sudden+, introduced in IIDX 12 - HAPPY SKY AC, is like Sudden, except configurable by the user. The user may hold down the Start button during play and spin the turntable to change the portion of the play field that is covered from the top down. From IIDX 13 - DistorteD AC and IIDX 11 - IIDX RED CS onward, the player may show and hide the portion of the screen covered by the Sudden+ modifier at any time during gameplay by tapping the start button twice.
*On Hidden, notes are only visible in the upper portion of the screen (again, approximately a third of the screen). It can be enabled at the same time as Sudden, causing the notes to briefly blink in the middle of their respective lanes.
*Hidden+, introduced in IIDX 12 - HAPPY SKY AC, is like Hidden, except user configurable. The user may hold down the Start button during play and spin the turntable to change the portion of the play field that is covered from the bottom up. From IIDX 13 - DistorteD AC and IIDX 11 - IIDX RED CS onward, the player may show and hide the portion of the screen covered by the Hidden+ modifier at any time during gameplay by tapping the start button twice.
*HIDSUD+, introudced in IIDX 12 - HAPPY SKY AC, is like Sudden & Hidden, except user configurable. The user may hold down the Start button during play and spin the turntable to change the portion of the play field that is covered from both the top down and bottom up. From IIDX 13 - DistorteD AC and IIDX 11 - IIDX RED CS onward, the player may show and hide the portion of the screen covered by the HIDSUD+ modifier at any time during gameplay by tapping the start button twice.
*2P FLIP, introduced in IIDX 13 - DistorteD AC, swaps the notecharts for each player's side of the screen. DP FLIP is the same as 2P FLIP, except it is activated during doubles mode. This modifier is also available in CS versions since IIDX RED, although scores obtained with the modifier are saved only in HAPPY SKY CS.
*In 7th AC (9th CS), 5KEYS became a selectable modifier in the main game, rather than a separate game mode. In this mode, the two rightmost keys are not used by the player and any notes that would correspond to those keys do not need to be played. In IIDX 15 - DJ TROOPERS (IIDX 13 - DistorteD CS), the 5KEYS modifier uses keys 3-7 instead of 1-5 when playing on the Player 2 side.
*Introduced as a secret modifier in IIDX 14 GOLD, REGUL-SPEED negates the effect of tempo changes by setting the scroll speed to a constant 150 BPM. The player can then select an appropriate Hi-Speed mod accordingly. To enable this option, open the options menu by holding Start and press the keys "2-3-5-7-4-6". This constant scroll-speed setting is analogous to Stepmania's C-Mod, and standard gameplay settings in Guitar Freaks/Drum Mania as well as Guitar Hero. Scores obtained using this modifier are not recorded.

jubeat
General Information
jubeat plus is the second mobile installment of the Jubeat series, and the first for Apple's iOS. The game was announced at Tokyo Game Show 2010. A version for the iPad will be released in Fall 2010, while a (presumably separate) release for iPhone and iPod Touch users will follow in Winter 2010.

Songs
A final songlist is not yet available. Bemanistyle has noted:

:"Interestingly, the songlist currently consists of every Konami Original and license cover song from the original jubeat all the way to the newest arcade game jubeat knit. In the current build of the game, there are no master license tracks included and the Konami Original song 'I'm so Happy', the final unlock in jubeat knit, is also missing. The charts for every song also seem to match the arcade charts exactly."

Jubeat (UBeat in North America and Europe, pronounced you-beat), is an arcade music video game developed by Konami Computer Entertainment Japan, and is a part of Konami's Bemani line of music video games. The game went on several location tests in Asia since December 2007, and was released in July 2008. A North American location test for the game as UBeat was announced in August 2008. The cabinet utilizes one 16:9 screen in portrait orientation which is split into two main areas; the top 2/5 of which is used for displaying scores and information, and the bottom 3/5 of which is split into 16 panel areas arranged in a 4x4 grid where the main part of the game takes place. Aside from the main game the bottom screen and the panels are used for menus and user interactive sections.

Gameplay
The basic gameplay of UBeat is similar to Nintendo DS music games such as Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan and Elite Beat Agents and can be considered to be similar to Whac-A-Mole. Animated explosions or other animations, called "markers", that can be chosen at the song select screen are shown within the panels synced to a track of the player's choosing; when they reach a "hot point", which is dependent on the marker chosen, the player must tap the corresponding screen to score points. Taps can be judged as either Perfect, いい感じ (Good), 早い (Early), or 遅い (Late). 3 difficulties (Basic, Advanced, and Extreme) are offered for each song.

Online and local multiplayer are available when the machines are connected either to each other or to the Konami network respectively. Once connected in a Local multiplayer game all players will play the same songs on the same difficulties. Whichever song and difficulty gets chosen the fastest is the one that will be played. In the multiplayer environment icons appear above the song sleeves on the song select screen to show that someone is waiting for other players. If nobody is waiting when the player chooses a song, the game will create a session and wait around 30 seconds for other players. If no other players join within the roughly 30 second wait then the song is played as it would be in single player mode.

If during a multiplayer game the player fails a song, as long as another player that is playing with them has passed the song then the player is "saved" and play can continue. The only time that the player can be "saved" when not playing multiplayer is on the first song if the player is not using an e-Amusement pass.

Scoring
When the song is finished, the player will receive a score up to 1,000,000 depending on his/her performance. A letter rating will also be assigned based on the score:
*E - Score under 500,000.
*D - 500,000-700,000.
*C - 700,000-800,000.
*B - 800,000-850,000.
*A - 850,000-900,000.
*S - 900,000-950,000.
*SS - 950,000-1,000,000.

From jubeat ripples onward, SSS rank is earned for scores of at least 980,000, and a score of 1,000,000 is awarded the EXC rank.

e-Amusement
When used with an e-Amusement card, the game will save statistics to the e-Amusement servers. As with other recent Bemani games, e-Amusement is also required for some unlocks.

North American Location Testing
A North American location test for Jubeat was announced on August 26th on the DDR Online Community site, and was held from September 8, 2008 and ran until September 14, 2008. at a Boomers! Parks location in Irvine, California, and was accompanied by a location test of Dance Dance Revolution X AC. For the North American market, the game had been renamed as UBeat, which is pronounced the same way as Jubeat. The songlist for UBeat wass also considerably different from the Japanese version, containing new licenses alongside some of the original songs present on the game.

A second, unannounced location test occurred at Sherman Oaks Castle Park in November 2009. The game, tentatively called Jukebeat, featured a wider array of licenses and several songs from jubeat ripples.

For songs exclusive to these location tests, refer to the game page for jubeat.

European location test
A European location test for UBeat was announced on October 10th on DDRUK, running through into the school autumn holidays. As the North American market, the game was also renamed to UBeat. The location of the two UBeat machines is at Tenpin Bowl, in Acton, West London. 2 Ubeat machines were also placed in the London trocadero but have since been removed as the location test has ended.

Versions
Summary
If you only read Remywiki, no more information is collected than is typically collected in server logs by web sites in general.

If you contribute to this project, you are publishing every word you post publicly. If you write something, assume that it will be retained forever. This includes articles, user pages and talk pages. Some limited exceptions are described below.

Publishing on the wiki and public data
Simply visiting the web site does not expose your identity publicly.

When you edit any page in the wiki, you are publishing a document. This is a public act, and you are identified publicly with that edit as its author.

Identification of an author
When you publish a page in the wiki, you may be logged in or not.

If you are logged in, you will be identified by your user name. This may be your real name if you so choose, or you may choose to publish under a pseudonym, whatever user name you selected when you created your account.

It may be either difficult or easy for a motivated individual to connect your network IP address with your real-life identity. Therefore if you are very concerned about privacy, you may wish to log in and publish under a pseudonym.

When using a pseudonym, your IP address will not be available to the public except in cases of abuse, including vandalism of a wiki page by you or by another user with the same IP address. In all cases, your IP address will be stored on the wiki servers and can be seen by Wikimedia's server administrators and by users who have been granted "CheckUser" access. Your IP address, and its connection to any usernames that share it may be released under certain circumstances (see below).

If you use a company mail server from home or telecommute and use a DSL or cable Internet connection, it is likely to be very easy for your employer to identify your IP address and find all of your IP based Wikimedia project contributions. Using a user name is a better way of preserving your privacy in this situation. However, remember to log out or disconnect yourself after each session using a pseudonym on a shared computer, to avoid allowing others to use your identity.

Cookies
The wiki will set a temporary session cookie (PHPSESSID) whenever you visit the site. If you do not intend to ever log in, you may deny this cookie, but you cannot log in without it. It will be deleted when you close your browser session.

More cookies may be set when you log in, to avoid typing in your user name (or optionally password) on your next visit. These last up to 30 days. You may clear these cookies after use if you are using a public machine and don't wish to expose your username to future users of the machine. (If so, clear the browser cache as well.)

Passwords
Many aspects of the Wikimedia projects' community interactions depend on the reputation and respect that is built up through a history of valued contributions. User passwords are the only guarantee of the integrity of a user's edit history. All users are encouraged to select strong passwords and to never share them. No one shall knowingly expose the password of another user to public release either directly or indirectly.
Private logging
Every time you visit a web page, you send a lot of information to the web server. Most web servers routinely maintain access logs with a portion of this information, which can be used to get an overall picture of what pages are popular, what other sites link to this one, and what web browsers people are using. It is not the intention of the Wikimedia projects to use this information to keep track of legitimate users.

These logs are used to produce the site statistics pages; the raw log data is not made public, and is normally discarded after about two weeks.

Here's a sample of what's logged for one page view:
Log data may be examined by developers in the course of solving technical problems and in tracking down badly-behaved web spiders that overwhelm the site. IP addresses of users, derived either from those logs or from records in the database are frequently used to correlate usernames and network addresses of edits in investigating abuse of the wiki, including the suspected use of malicious "sockpuppets" (duplicate accounts), vandalism, harassment of other users, or disruption of the wiki.

E-mail, mailing lists and IRC
E-mail
You may provide your e-mail address in your Preferences and enable other logged-in users to send email to you through the wiki. Your address will not be revealed to them unless you respond, or possibly if the email bounces. The email address may be used by the Wikimedia Foundation to communicate with users on a wider scale.

If you do not provide an email address, you will not be able to reset your password if you forget it. However, you may contact one of the Wikimedia server administrators to enter a new mail address in your preferences.

You can remove your email address from your preferences at any time to prevent it being used.

User data
Data on users, such as the times at which they edited and the number of edits they have made are publicly available via "user contributions" lists, and in aggregated forms published by other users.

Removal of user accounts
Once created, user accounts will not be removed. It may be possible for a username to be changed (depending on the policies of your local wiki). The Wikimedia Foundation does not guarantee that a name will be changed on request.

Whether specific user information is deleted is dependant on the deletion policies of the project that contains the information.

Deletion of content
Removing text from Wikimedia projects does not permanently delete it. In normal articles, anyone can look at a previous version and see what was there. If an article is "deleted", any user with "administrator" access on the wiki, meaning almost anyone trusted not to abuse the deletion capability, can see what was deleted. Information can be permanently deleted by those people with access to the servers, but there is no guarantee this will happen except in response to legal action.

:As for the preview song, I just hope it's not Quasar or Rislim -remix- because I really want those play those for the first time in 9th and not in 8th as preview songs.

;Greyfox, Post #192

It seems as if he doesn't have a care in the world and doesn't care what time it is, he's just relaxing and playing IIDX (Particularly Rislim -Remix-). I'd like to do the same because, I believe, that would be the most efficient way to appreciate Rislim -Remix-.

At this point, the conversation really started to spiral; notable is Boxthor's post destroying most of the things Azure believed about the video.
Is 69 Easier With Hard On?
Another (perhaps unintentionally) hilarious line from Azure, posted on the VJ Army forums during a discussion about Innocent Walls' stupidly hard measure #69.

;Azure, Post #843
:Is 69 easier with hard on?

;MazriM TaiM, Post #847
:In my experience, yes. ;)
:BUT I DUNNO MAN IF YOU HAVE HARD ON IT MIGHT JUST BE TOO MUCH AT ONCE AND YOU MIGHT GET OVERWHELMED AND THEN ITS ALL OVER SO QUICKLY :AND THEN SHE (INNOCENT WALLS) IS MAD AT YOU FOR BEING LOUSY

GET IT?!
A mainstay throughout the English-speaking Bemani community. The basic concept of a GET IT is to find Bemani song titles in sentences during conversation, whether intentional or not.

;Classic example
:Person A: "I have a headache."
:Person B: "Then take some tablets."

GET IT?!

This has also been extended to objects in everyday life that contain references to Bemani song titles (or the titles themselves, such as ACT mouthwash), or other aspects of Bemani games in general.

Truly A Fantastic
written by Dan "Remy" Dickinson

V
V is widely considered an inside joke at this point, as it appeared on eight CS games, and six consecutive ones (5th-10th, BMUS, Happy Sky). ("You can't spell revival without V.") Many players take this as a sign that Konami hates them.

When V was not revived for RED CS, many players took this as a sign that Konami hated them by ruining their joke.

Despite this, Michael a la mode has become something of a celebrity in the Japanese Bemani community from this single song, making an appearance Bemani Topranker 2008 Semifinal for Japan's Kinki region and appearing in IIDX DJ TROOPERS in the Tutorial Mode and a sound of clip of him saying "Let's do it!!" is available as part of one of the customizable select music.

dj BTNS
Buttons (VJA profile: DJ BTNS) is Remy's cat. Buttons has earned international fame and acclaim for his supernatural IIDX abilities and suave good looks. Buttons has earned renown for defeating Remy in a IIDX grudge match, and despite possessing no opposable thumbs he's still able to achieve AAA scores on an arcade-style controller, much to the disbelief of some.

Buttons has become a favorite of the VJ Army community, and has been immortalized by way of a :btns: emoticon on the site's forums.

Buttons has his own website.

Ooh,
Who said that love was over?

Who said that you should walk out?
Who said that love was over?
Who said that you could walk out?
Who said that love was gone?

Hold on and wait one minute,
Think you need reminding, hon.
I was the one who,
Never let you be without all you needed.

Now just think, about what you'll be missing,
And you know, you should think.
Could it be, together we could fix it,
Whatever, long love is worth saving.

I was the one who helped you,
To find your place in life. (I was the one!)
And when nobody loved you,
The heart you knew was mine.
I was the one that comfort,
Each day and every night. (I was the one!)
And when you needed someone,
I, held your hand in mine.

(I was the one!)
Yeah! (I was the one!)
Oh baby, I was the one, the one, the one-the one, the one, the one,
Oh yes, I was the one, the one, the one-the one, the one, the one, yeah.

:As for the preview song, I just hope it's not Quasar or Rislim -remix- because I really want those play those for the first time in 9th and not in 8th as preview songs.

;Greyfox, Post #192

Remyhttps://remywiki.com/index.php?title=File:ACDJTroopersLogo.png&diff=16008File:ACDJTroopersLogo.png2007-08-09T02:48:24Z
Remy:

::Added both of them; there's nothing I can do to make the account creation more complicated, it's not my software. (sigh) --Remy 21:38, 10 Mar 2006 (EST)
:::Aw, but it's GPL software. I'd volunteer to try to add an email confirmation type thing this weekend, but I'm kind of leaving for England in 10 hours :x (By the way, I'd guess all this spamming is scripted; the xtrinityluvx and Fongpei edits always happened four minutes apart.) Also by the way, the CS USA page ... :x --Miz 06:52, 11 Mar 2006 (EST)

::::Wiki.theppn.org got a similar kind of attack during the same days and has had a huge shower of spamming in the past hour. This is nonsense. >_> --Sakurina 21:19, 11 Mar 2006 (EST)

Got another one - Altair spammed seven pages with the same set of links. --TeamRagnarok 04:59, 12 March 2006 (UTC)

Hey, I found some potentially good info. Remy, check your email. Also, I don't really see the point in cleaning up the link spam until we get blocks (or better solutions) in place, since it appears to be, so it just clutters up the Recent Changes page :x --Miz 00:16, 12 Mar 2006 (EST)

:: You said blocks, teehee! Actually, if Google indexes this wiki often, they can use this to spam up Google search engine result pages. Trust me, you learn all about this when you participate in SEO contests. --Sakurina 17:17, 12 Mar 2006 (EST)

:: Added a wgSpamRegex. Should cover all the spam we've gotten in the last week; if there are more rules I need to add, I will as time goes by. --Remy 20:10, 13 Mar 2006 (EST)

Not a spammer, but TheCat88 is really screwing up the wiki. He's moving pages all over the place, and is causing some pages to have non-working links (by moving them to pages with katakana/kanji in their titles). --TeamRagnarok 23:10, 14 March 2006 (UTC)

First Appeared On:
Uh, for several songs, their first appearance isn't in IIDX, although that's what their song pages currently say. Would it work to make that line say what the actual first appearance is, whether it's 5Key, Pop'n, IIDX, DDR, or whatever, and add "First IIDX Appearance" and "First Pop'n Appearance" lines for when it came out there?
JD 22:01, 28 Dec 2005 (EST)

Front page edit requests!
So now that I've added the IIDX Songs category to most of the IIDX song pages, could you change the "Song directory" link on the first page under the IIDXicon heading to point to Category: IIDX Songs? Could you also move all the pages that aren't already to game-specific page names? (e.g. AC General Info -> IIDX AC General Info) Also, Category: Characters is empty now, please link that to Category: IIDX Characters. The Songs and Characters links should also be changed on the IIDXicon page. I think that about covers it for now. Yes. Thanks. --Miz 19:00, 1 Apr 2006 (EST)

I'm not certain, but I believe all of the pages HAD a IIDX: and PnM: prefix before and were removed shortly afterwards. --Sakurina 21:59, 1 Apr 2006 (EST)
Which style should I buy?
Every person has their own opinions about which style is the "best". Rather than point out a definitive list, I'll list the pros and cons of each style, and let you decide. It is easier, however, to get the newer styles.

beatmaniaIIDX 3rd Style
Total Songs: 80

Unique Songs: ~43

Pros
*Huge songlist
*Beginner friendly songs
*Can be found cheap used
*Actual music videos

Cons
*Timing is bad on certain songs (gambol, overdoser).
*No beginner's mode (but there are enough easy Light 7 songs that you can get away with it).
*Interface is widely considered to be poor compared to later titles

beatmaniaIIDX 4th Style
Total Songs: 53

Unique Songs: 22

Pros
*Good song selection, with few songs repeated on other styles.

Cons
*Expensive to purchase.
*Light 7 songlist is significantly harder than other styles.
*No beginner mode.

beatmaniaIIDX 5th Style
Total Songs: 64

Unique Songs: 13

Pros
*Has a beginner mode.

Cons
*Slower hispeeds than found on other games.
*Many complain about timing issues.
*Lots of songs are repeated on later styles.
Which controller should I buy? I can't afford a controller right now, should I just play on a Dualshock?
Personally, I would wait to have the cash to buy one game and the controller at the same time. However, if you are -that- pressed for cash, I'm not stopping you from playing on a Dualshock. You won't get the same experience, however, and playing on a Dualshock is confusing as hell.

As far as buying controllers, there are a few options:

Konami Controller - An official controller by Konami, runs for about $90 from most online retailers. The keys are spaced correctly, but the turntable is smaller and closer to the keys. The keys are switchable so that you can emulate both the first and second player sides. People have problems with sticky keys, but you can mod your controller to get around these problems.

American Controller - Also made by Konami, this controller comes bundled with the American beatmania, which usually costs $60 or so for the game and controller. It has some slight differences from the Japanese controller mentioned above; most are cosmetic, but it is worth noting that the buttons are curved outwards, and are therefore much less prone to sticking. However, the buttons also have a larger "throw" than the KOC's, meaning that they have further to travel before they register a press. Though it comes bundled with the American beatmania, this controller is fully compatible with the Japanese versions of IIDX.

Rave Discman - Don't buy one. The price is attractive, but frankly, it's not all that great. For one, the keys are the wrong shape and are not spaced correctly. It's better to hold out for a Konami controller. It's possible to use a Rave Discman as a base for your own ASC, which some people on the forums have done. Take note this controller also has some voltage issues which could fry PS2->USB convertors that you might use.

Konami ASC - The official arcade-style controller by Konami. It's huge, it's pricey, and for some, it's worth it. The price tag is quite hefty, but with arcade perfect dimensions, clicking keys, and switchable from first player to 2nd player, lots of people have purchased them. Expect to pay around $450 when all is said and done.

Third-Party ASC - two controller makers well-known in the Pop'n Music community have both started producing ASC-like controllers for IIDX.
There's a port on the side of my beatmania IIDX controller and I can't fit my finger in there? What is it for?
The port is meant for a foot pedal for beatmania III, but no home versions of beatmania III have been made. You can plug in a pedal from the drummania home controller into it, and triggering the pedal acts as a scratch. Cool, but mostly pointless.
Remyhttps://remywiki.com/index.php?title=Template:IIDX&diff=5708Template:IIDX2006-12-11T17:57:49Z
Remy:

IIDX Community Inside Jokes
You've found the thrilling page where you can finally learn about what the hell all those dumb jokes are. They're too cool!

Rislim Remix
This joke manifests itself as anything relating to playing a song at certain hours, being in love with a song, effective ways of appreciating a song, particular times of the year to purchase IIDX games, or anything relating to Rislim Remix.

During a conversation on the VJ Army Forums about what preview songs might appear on CS 8th style, the following conversation took place:

;Azure, Post #191
:As for the preview song, I just hope it's not Quasar or Rislim -remix- because I really want those play those for the first time in 9th and not in 8th as preview songs.

;Greyfox, Post #192

Peview
The 10th CS site launch was notable due to being the first IIDX site with Flash-based audio-visual previews of the new CS songs.

V
V is widely considered an inside joke at this point, as it appeared on seven consecutive CS games (5th-10th, BMUS). ("You can't spell revival without V.") Many players take this as a sign that Konami hates them.

V was not revived for RED CS. Many players take this as a sign that Konami hates them by ruining their joke.

GXPERT
In AC RED's mode select screen, the word "EXPERT" was accidentally misspelled as "GXPERT." This has since been corrected, but, like "PEVIEW", is still a source of amusement to IIDX players.

Truck Me
Injection of Love contains a line that was controversial at the time IIDX RED was released, and there was a great deal of debate over what Sana was actually saying.

Remy
