There are two lists inside the folder | There are two lists inside the folder: MYSTERY LINE and MYSTERY EXPLORE. Only one can be accessed at a time. | ||
MYSTERY | If one chooses MYSTERY LINE, a location will randomly select four possibilities (fewer if one or more of the existing locations has been unlocked); if a different one is desired, three Rainbow Tickets can be used to change it. A prompt will appear to select which chart of the upcoming song to unlock, and all charts for that song will be available for play. It is not necessary to play the same chart as was chosen to unlock (i.e. you can play the HYPER chart even if you chose to unlock the NORMAL chart), and the result does not matter. When three stars are displayed in this folder, they will transfer to MYSTERY EXPLORE. | ||
MYSTERY EXPLORE will draw a random list of charts (similar to STEP UP, but covering the entire difficulty range of 1-12). Playing songs from here will fill a pie chart to unlock the song. A star will be deducted for each song played here. The amount that is filled in is based on the difficulty level and clear type obtained. The pie chart takes more effort to fill for the higher difficulties based on the area being explored (NORMAL is a flat plain, HYPER is mountain wilderness, and ANOTHER is an unknown area). If the pie chart is filled completely, the selected chart of the song will be unlocked for normal play. If all of the stars run out before filling the pie chart, the train will move to a new location on the next credit. | |||

== EXPERT Mode == | |||
EXPERT mode was added on February 3rd, 2016. SECRET courses also return to this game, with a hidden unlockable appearing on the course's FINAL STAGE; filling the gauge will unlock the course, with the amount based on the clear and gauge used during the course: | |||
* An EX-HARD (VIP Pass required) or FULL COMBO clear fills the gauge entirely. | |||
* A HARD clear (VIP Pass required) fills the gauge by 75%. | |||
* Completing the gauge increases by 50%, but failing the gauge will cut the rate by half depending on progress (failing on the FINAL Stage fills 25%, and half for one song less) | |||
* Using any ASSIST modifiers (5KEYS, AUTO-SCRATCH or LEGACY) will lower clear progress. | |||
Once the gauge is filled, that chart is then unlocked for regular play; Single and Double Play charts unlock altogether, but each chart must be unlocked separately by difficulty. | |||
On August 10th, 2016, the NEW Generation natsu no ryuusei festa 2016 event began, a special BEMANI event between beatmania IIDX 23 copula, jubeat Qubell, and SOUND VOLTEX III GRAVITY WARS. Songs from the event were also added to EXPERT. Triple Counter can be unlocked one chart at a time by obtaining the four NEW Generation natsu no ryuusei festa 2016 event songs on the same difficulty; unlocking the song fully nets you a Golden Tran Medal. | |||

General Information / Changes
- Theme: Trains. The promotional banner features Lilith and Iroha in conductor uniforms.
- "copula" is Latin for bond/connection.
- HELL CHARGE NOTES are introduced, which reduce your gauge gradually when you don't hold them/miss them. Unlike regular CHARGE NOTES, these can be pressed at any time, refilling your gauge.
- They count as two combos, and letting them go will break your combo.
- An indicator similar to the previous CN marker next to the song will show which songs have HELL CHARGE NOTES.
- You're also given a little demonstration of the HELL CHARGE NOTES prior to starting a song.
- Compared to regular CHARGE NOTES, HELL ones are orange and purple colored in comparison.
- At the moment, there aren't charts that include both CHARGE NOTES and HELL CHARGE NOTES.
- The CHARGE NOTE indicator has returned, but it will only display on the difficulty selection side (and not on the song list itself like the HELL CHARGE NOTE icon). This is omitted entirely in STEP-UP mode.
- The HELL CHARGE NOTE indicator is also displayed on the difficulty selection panels.
- New assist modifier introduced: ASSISTED EASY, which lowers the clear border from 80% to 60%. Using this counts as an ASSIST CLEAR if a song is cleared; FULLCOMBO CLEAR can also be obtained. This modifier is active by default.
- ALL BEGINNER folder added to main arcade modes. You no longer need to be in STEP UP mode to play BEGINNER charts.
- This folder is the default selection for players without an eAMUSEMENT PASS and for players who haven't played copula before, as opposed to previous versions defaulting to their version folder.
- In this folder, video previews for songs can now be seen at the music select screen, except generic ones.
- As always, by playing BEGINNER charts, you can't obtain DJ Points and no scores are saved. The clear lamp for BEGINNER charts is also always colored green, regardless of clear type.
- Tran Medals can be obtained.
- BEGINNER difficulties are now written with numerical characters.
- DAN courses on Double now have 4 songs instead of 3. They also now start at 7-kyu instead of 5-kyu as before.
- EX, MIRROR and EX+MIRROR options can be chosen for DAN courses by scrolling through them with the VEFX button.
- EX option is now available for non-PASELI players.
- Tran Medals can be obtained for clearing it with separate options, and it is possible to obtain the aforementioned three by clearing the course once with EX+MIRROR enabled, just as the player clears it with EX and MIRROR on separate runs.
- STEP UP mode's beginning now depends on your DAN rank from the previous game. However, the maximum level you can start with is 9.
- BPM and Difficulty sorts have returned.
- DJ VIP PASS BLACK isn't activated automatically anymore.
- The LEGGENDARIA folder now includes new † and HCN Ver. charts for older songs.
- Like in beatmania IIDX 21 SPADA and beatmania IIDX 22 PENDUAL, the LEGGENDARIA folder is only accessible via PASELI, and only on EXTRA STAGE, unless Rainbow Tickets are used.
- Currency in this version is called ピュラー (Pular).
- First beatmania IIDX arcade game where stage names are color-labeled (blue for 1ST to FINAL STAGE, orange for EXTRA STAGE, and red for ONE MORE EXTRA STAGE).
- First beatmania IIDX arcade game since their arcade debuts with no 猫叉Master or TAG songs on the default song list.
- First beatmania IIDX arcade game since the debut of Mayumi Morinaga's Prim alias where she has no songs under that alias on the default song list.
- First beatmania IIDX arcade game since beatmania IIDX 20 tricoro with no new licenses on the default song list.
- It's also the first game since tricoro with no OSTER project song on the default song list.
- The EXPERT COURSE -SECRET- and Coca-Cola×BEMANI songs are automatically unlocked from beatmania IIDX 22 PENDUAL, as are all of the locked songs from beatmania IIDX 21 SPADA (though †LEGGENDARIA charts are still only available via PASELI) and beatmania IIDX 20 tricoro. All other unlocks from PENDUAL are still as such if not unlocked prior.
- These were made accessible by way of PULACO tickets on February 3rd, 2016, with the others being made available in SECRET EXPERT courses.
- Unlocks appear on a rainbow colored frame in the songwheel.
- Song information (Version/Genre/Title/Artist/BPM) is now center-aligned in the song selection screen, above the HYPER difficulty panel.
- "☆ My favorite" notation in the result screen was changed to just "☆" on November 17th, 2015.
- Rainbow Tickets (にじいろきっぷ) were introduced on November 26th, 2015. Purchase and usage system is the same as beatmania IIDX 22 PENDUAL's Hourglass of Time. Upon use, all of the old unlocks become available for the play, including the LEGGENDARIA folder finally being accessible outside of EXTRA STAGE with no V-Disc requirement. Level restrictions are not removed, however. Rainbow Tickets can be used for specific bonuses in unlock events.
- FLOOR INFECTION and 怪盗BisCoの予告状!! locked songs were not made available with this until March 14th, 2016.
- Rainbow Tickets were sold until October 19th, 2016. All purchased Rainbow Tickets expired on October 26th, 2016, with the release of beatmania IIDX 24 SINOBUZ.
- The Chuuden (中伝) rank course, between 10th Dan and Kaiden, has been added to Dan mode. This is the first addition to Dan courses since the introduction of Kaiden in beatmania IIDX 13 DistorteD.
- Similar to Kaiden, Chuuden requires clearing 10th Dan to access the course. Clearing Chuuden will allow players to play Kaiden.
- EXPERT mode returned on February 3rd, 2016.
- ORIGINAL courses returned on August 4th, 2016.
- copula's soundtracks are the first beatmania IIDX soundtracks to be released internationally on iTunes since beatmania IIDX 20 tricoro ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK Vol.1 back in 2013.
- Name/artist tags are the same across all regions. Song names are romanized, with some slightly changed and almost all capitalized song titles reworked to just the first letter being captialized.
- Artist names for songs that are in Japanese are kept in Japanese, though.
- New song titles return to the traditional blue colored text.
- Players who have a eAMUSEMENT Premium subscription, from May 1st, 2016, can download score data, have three MY FAVORITE folders instead of one, obtain 10 V-DISCs instead of 7 per PASELI premium play and have access to a "Quick Retry" functionality in the PREMIUM FREE mode.
- "Quick Retry" can be triggered by pressing the EFFECT and VEFX buttons simultaneously, allowing the player to instantly replay a song bypassing the result screen and song select.
- In-game benefits will not be available unless the player has activated the Platinum membership card on the game website.
- From April 20, 2016 until May 1, 2016, these features are available to players with a Basic subscription on a trial basis.
- Character result screens were added on May 17th, 2016.
- First beatmania IIDX game to get proper new exclusive songs after the announcement and location test of a successive IIDX style.
- First beatmania IIDX game since beatmania IIDX 18 Resort Anthem to not have songs with "boss fight" videos.
- First beatmania IIDX game to have an update on the in-game UI.
- eAMUSEMENT support for beatmania IIDX 23 copula ended on November 30th, 2016.
- Total number of songs: 1002 (plus 17 LEGGENDARIA charts)

Season Line
Season Line is beatmania IIDX 23 copula's EXTRA STAGE system. For Japanese version machines, this only appears on premium start (requires PASELI).
It plays a bit different from previous EXTRA STAGE events: it has its own event page on the copula website, and songs are unlocked weekly from easiest to hardest, instead of vice-versa. All the songs in the event are related to the four seasons. These songs are:
Season | Line name | Song | Date debut |
---|---|---|---|
WINTER | Dunkel Weihnachten | Nightmare before oversleep | November 19th, 2015 |
冬尽く小江戸 | 麗 ~うらら~ | January 14th, 2016 | |
SPRING | Spring Festival | La dolce primavera | March 17th, 2016 |
SUMMER | occasional rain | 紫陽花 -AZISAI- | May 12th, 2016 |
Kilogramme de l'aventure | か・し・ま・し☆PUMP UP ! | August 10th, 2016 | |
AUTUMN | えきねこ | 駅猫のワルツ | September 15th, 2016 |
Like Spada†leggendaria, the sum of difficulty levels, rank, and clear type are the main requirements to unlock a Season Line song for EXTRA STAGE. Once the condition is fulfilled, the graphics in the EXTRA STAGE will change to Season Line, with a special BGM playing during the music selection screen. Requirements for Seasion Line are as follows:
Phase | NORMAL | HYPER | ANOTHER | ||||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Total Level | DJ LEVEL | Clear Lamp | Total Level | DJ LEVEL | Clear Lamp | Total Level | DJ LEVEL | Clear Lamp | |
Phase 1 | 18 | AA or better | EX-HARD CLEAR or better | unavailable | |||||
Phase 2 | 15 | AA or better | HARD CLEAR or better | 27 | AA or better | EX-HARD CLEAR or better | unavailable | ||

Phase 6 | 12 | A or better | HARD CLEAR or better | 21 | A or better | HARD CLEAR or better | 27 | A or better | HARD CLEAR or better |
Attaining a FULL COMBO will override all other clear requirements. Neither RANDOM nor EXPAND-JUDGE are allowed. |
Clearing a Season Line song's chart nets you a "riding icon", plus a Silver Tran Medal for each difficulty cleared for the first time.
終着 (ONE MORE EXTRA STAGE)
From September 15th, 2016, it is possible to unlock all Season Line songs' charts by at least clearing them once. EASY and/or any ASSIST modifiers are not allowed, and it can only be accessed on Single play.
Once the riding icons for all six Season Line songs are obtained on a specific difficulty, you will be able to play a new song for ONE MORE EXTRA STAGE - NZM - on said difficulty. Once the song is cleared, its chart will be unlocked, alongside a Gold Tran Medal for each of the three difficulties unlocked. If you fail the chart, you'll need to reobtain all six riding icons to play it.
NZM has its own rules regarding the GROOVE GAUGE, with each subsequent play after a failed attempt relaxing it:
- First try: EX-HARD is forced on, gauge cannot be recovered
- Second try: EX-HARD is forced on;
- Third try: HARD is forced on, gauge cannot be recovered
- Fourth try" HARD is forced on
- Fifth try: regular gauge
- Sixth try: EASY
- Seventh onward: ASSIST EASY is forced on
Final Season: えきねこ (Phase 6)
Time Period: October 20th, 2016 onwards

Kaitsuu! Tokotoko line (開通!とことこライン)
Official Phase 1 event page.
Official Phase 2 event page.
The Kaitsuu! Tokotoko line (開通!とことこライン) event is the first unlock event of beatmania IIDX 23 copula. It ran from November 26th, 2015 until April 24th, 2016. e-AMUSEMENT is required to play the event, and it can only be on Single play. The second phase of the event began on December 22nd, 2015, and requires Phase 1 to be completed first.
The objective of Kaitsuu! Tokotoko line is to build a railway throughout a set of areas. Material points are obtained after playing a song, regardless if it was cleared or not. The amount of material points (without tools) obtained per song depends on the chosen mode:
- STANDARD / Dani nintei / EXPERT / HAZARD: 25 material points/song
- STEP UP: 33 material points
- FREE / FREE PLUS: 50 material points
- PREMIUM FREE: 25 material points (from the sixth song onward you only get one material point per song play)
You get a special tool if you clear one song from each style respectively (except substream). Getting all 23 tools will net you a permanent 1.5x material gaining bonus.
From December 22nd, 2015, you can also get new special tools by fulfilling the following requirements, regardless of difficulty:
- Clear a Season Line song.
- Clear three songs with charts containing HELL CHARGE NOTES in a single credit.
- Clear three songs with a base BPM equal or higher than 250 in a single credit.
- Clear three songs in your Favorite folder in a single credit.
- Clear the current WEEKLY RANKING song.
Tokotoko line leaders, chosen throughout a card shuffle, increase material gaining as well. In order, from best to worst:
Ripika/Phoenix (40% boost) > Lupica/Rche (20% boost) > Repika/Bafaru (15% boost) > Mamonis/Vega (5% boost).
With Rainbow Tickets you can add additional leaders: two tickets to add one, and five to use all four of the available leaders.
You can also choose three players from the event's website page for gaining additional material points in the event. Note that this doesn't decrease material earning for these other players. VIP PASS BLACK lets you earn more material points.
The formula for the total amount of material points gained per play is:
Material points earned by song plays x tool bonus + leader bonus + players' shared materials
All the obtained material points will be used in the event section to build the railway. Once the development of the railway is done in an area, you rank up, you get a Bronze Tran Medal and you can choose which one of the following four songs to unlock. All charts immediately unlock upon a choosing a song:
On Phase 2, you can choose:
Areas where the railway has been already built can be re-visited. There you can fill "regional happiness" gauges by building intermediate stations. Building intermediate stations in each area give you 500 pular.

- AREA 1:

Mystery Line
The Mystery Line is the second unlock system of beatmania IIDX 23 copula, introduced on April 27th, 2016. e-AMUSEMENT is required to play the event, and it will only show on Single play.
On EXTRA STAGE, a MYSTERY LINE folder will appear above the LEVEL folders. (If playing on a Japanese machine using Standard start (in coin mode or PASELI), the folder will appear on FINAL STAGE instead.) The first time this event appears, the game will default to the MYSTERY LINE folder (afterwards it will be in the place it would normally be after playing a song). Note that once the folder is entered, it will not be possible to switch between Single and Double.
There are two lists inside the folder: MYSTERY LINE and MYSTERY EXPLORE. Only one can be accessed at a time.
If one chooses MYSTERY LINE, a location will randomly select four possibilities (fewer if one or more of the existing locations has been unlocked); if a different one is desired, three Rainbow Tickets can be used to change it.
There are also secret areas that require additional conditions. If these conditions are met when a new location is due to be selected, the secret location will be chosen instead of the random normal one.
- Tori-no-kimochi: play two songs from the EMPRESS folder.
- NO LIMIT -オレ達に限界は無い-: unlock at least one chart from Tori-no-kimochi, then play two other songs by SUPER STAR 満-MITSURU-.
- M4K3 1T B0UNC3: unlock one or more charts for all of the normal Mystery Line songs, then play two of them.
- SOMETHING WONDERFUL: play two songs with videos containing trains in them.
- POSSESSION: unlock at least one of SOMETHING WONDERFUL;'s charts, then play two other songs by TAG.
- OUTER LIMITS ALTERNATIVE: play two songs with "Remix" in their title or artist name (songs with just MIX don't count).
- X: unlock all Mystery Line charts on the same difficulty you want to unlock a specific X's difficulty chart, then play two Mystery Line songs.
The 終着の地 destination comes with its own menu background and BGM.
Other information:
- Failing a song will cause it to not count toward gaining the secret area.
- For Tori-no-kimochi and NO LIMIT -オレ達に限界は無い-, if their conditions are satisfied at the same time, Tori-no-kimochi will take priority.
- For songs with prerequisites, the location selection will be limited to charts already unlocked on the prerequisite songs.
- For example, M4K3 1T B0UNC3's location selection is limited to a location that has been unlocked on all of the songs (i.e., if six of the seven songs have the HYPER chart unlocked, but one doesn't, HYPER won't be selectable for the location).
- In all applicable cases, playing the song in question will not satisfy the conditions.
- In Premium Start mode or on non-Japanese machines, only the first two songs count toward the secret area conditions. The FINAL STAGE song does not influence the results.
You obtain a Bronze Tran Medal for unlocking one of a song's chart, and a Silver Tran Medal for all three.

EXPERT Mode
EXPERT mode was added on February 3rd, 2016. SECRET courses also return to this game, with a hidden unlockable appearing on the course's FINAL STAGE; filling the gauge will unlock the course, with the amount based on the clear and gauge used during the course:
- An EX-HARD (VIP Pass required) or FULL COMBO clear fills the gauge entirely.
- A HARD clear (VIP Pass required) fills the gauge by 75%.
- Completing the gauge increases by 50%, but failing the gauge will cut the rate by half depending on progress (failing on the FINAL Stage fills 25%, and half for one song less)
- Using any ASSIST modifiers (5KEYS, AUTO-SCRATCH or LEGACY) will lower clear progress.
