* BPM is now displayed for songs on the music select screen.
* Interface changed drastically from previous two games. Instead of records displaying one song name at a time in the center a la beatmania, a song wheel is on the right side of the screen, with the records on the left. The far right song listing style is still used in the series to this day.

Instead of records displaying one song name at a time in the center a la beatmania, a song wheel is on the right side of the screen, with the records on the left. The far right songlisting style is still used in the series to this day.
** New songs on the song wheel are displayed with a blue colored text. This became the "traditional" new song text color used in the majority of future IIDX releases.
* Not counting beatmania IIDX substream (which is more of an expansion game), beatmania IIDX 2nd style is the only arcade beatmania IIDX game not to have its own standalone soundtrack. Instead, the three new substream songs and most of the 2nd style songs appeared on the beatmania maniac-tracks album. This album contained 2nd style songs, along with the new CS songs from beatmania APPEND YebisuMIX and the two new KONAMI originals in Dancing Stage featuring TRUE KiSS DESTiNATiON.

* First BEMANI appearances of TaQ and good-cool.
* Final beatmania IIDX game that recycles beatmania videos. The next game replaced these videos with generic beatmania IIDX videos.
* Final beatmania IIDX game that uses generic videos from the original beatmania IIDX. The next game replaced these videos with different generic videos.
* One song (PUT YOUR FAITH IN ME (for beatmania II)) and two EXPERT Courses (dj TAKA and HEAVEN) can be unlocked by the arcade operator using a code.
** Almost all songs from the original beatmania IIDX title with unique videos had their videos replaced with generic ones.
* Two songs in the game require special conditions in order to play them:
* Final beatmania IIDX game that can link with DanceDanceRevolution 2ndMIX, due to some songs being removed in the next game.
** To play Junglist King (long), the player have to score 180 000 points or more on the 1st song. The song will appear in the 2nd stage.
** However, new songs introduced in 2nd style cannot be played while linking with 2ndMIX.
** To play dong-tepo no.1, the player have to get a score of 195 000 points with PERFECT on the 2nd stage. The song will appear on the next stage.
* First beatmania IIDX game released in Korea, and the only one to be released under the "beatstage" name.
* Slogan: "The escaping of the music beat." (譜面(ビート)の向こうへ駆け抜けろ。)
** The Korean release is notable for being the only game to use the "standard" beatmania II cabinets, whose release was cancelled in Japan for unknown reasons.
** HARD gauge is enabled in all modes, much like beatstage 5thMIX.
** Six licenses and three KONAMI originals are missing from the Korean release, them being been so long, ちょっときいてな (ZANSHIN-NA MIX), Mirrorball Satellite 2012, morning prayer, Shake, The Rhyme Brokers, vs.Gattchoon Battle, Panorama and Second Style(Hip Hop Paradise).
** Additionally, dong-tepo no.1 and 踊る!福神漬 (CALCUTTA) were renamed "rocket factory" and "CALCUTTA" respectively. Oddly, the overlays for rocket factory still retain its original name.
* Slogan: "The escaping of the music beat." (<ruby>譜面<rp>(</rp><rt>ビート</rt><rp>)</rp></ruby>の向こうへ駆け抜けろ。, BEAT no mukou e kakenukeru)
