General Information / Changes
- Announced at the The 5th KONAMI Arcade Championship finals for DanceDanceRevolution (2014).
- The "A" in the game title is pronounced "Ace", just like the letter A in the deck of playing cards.
- The scoring ratio has changed while keeping the previous scoring system:
- Each Great now gives player 60% of score for Marvelous minus 10 (previously, 50% of score for Marvelous minus 10).
- Each Good now gives player 20% of score for Marvelous minus 10 (previously, 0).
- The grading system has also been changed (except AAA and E):
- Each letter grade now includes a + and –.
- Each letter grade now corresponds to the following ranges:
- AA+ : 950,000 ~ 989,990
- AA : 900,000 ~ 949,990
- AA– : 890,000 ~ 899,990
- A+ : 850,000 ~ 889,990
- A : 800,000 ~ 849,990
- A– : 790,000 ~ 799,990

- There is no D– grade.
- When using a screen filter, if a chart ends with Freeze Arrows, the filter now disappears only at the end of the arrows instead of at the start.
- Successful Shock Arrow effects (O.K. judgement and combo increase) now appeared immediately instead of being delayed half-beat.
- The music select screen now resembles that of the SOUND VOLTEX series.
- Difficulty sorting style now follows other BEMANI games, with each Level folder containing all difficulties rated with said Level.
- Song folders now sort songs in the following order: songs in Japanese are first, then regular ABC order, and lastly song names that begin with numbers.
- Licenses are also no longer put first in the song folders.
- Options and characters can now be selected via the game's eAMUSEMENT website.
- The Area Browser can also now be done via the eAMUSEMENT website.
- For Japanese cabinets with PASELI enabled, this option is now divided on:
- PASELI-PREMIUM MODE: the original PASELI option available up to DanceDanceRevolution (2014).
- PASELI-STANDARD MODE: uses less points than PREMIUM MODE. This option counts as STANDARD MODE without inserting physical coins.
- A total of 8 songs released during DanceDanceRevolution (2014) were retrospectively moved to the DanceDanceRevolution A folder.
- Included are the 4 licensed songs from the EDM～Exciting★Dance★Matsuri～ event, the 3 KONAMI original songs from the OSB～Winter★Special★Present～ event, and きゅん×きゅんばっきゅん☆LOVE.
- Even for new songs, characters now use the old dance routines introduced back in DanceDanceRevolution SuperNOVA instead of the new ones introduced in DanceDanceRevolution X.
- Songs that have special choreographies (e.g. Dream Machine) still keep their special choreographies, though.
- Dance Celebration's special choreography was revived as well.
- The song title and artist are now centered rather than left-aligned within their box in gameplay.
- AFRO, YUNI, JENNY, and RAGE have received new outfits, marking the first time characters receive new outfits since DanceDanceRevolution X2.
- However, the rest of the characters retain their outfits from DanceDanceRevolution X2.
- Character cut-ins are absent.
- "The Dark One" was removed as a playable character.
- VICTORY CONCENT returns as a playable character, albeit only being able to appear at random.
- The Butterfly SPECIAL ARROW option has been removed.
- The 0.75x Hi-SPEED multiplier has been added.
- The WAVE option now behaves accordingly with the selected Hi-SPEED multiplier.
- A background dance stage from DanceDanceRevolution X2 that was removed in DanceDanceRevolution X3 VS 2ndMIX has been restored.
- The GROOVE RADAR will now change accordingly when selecting any options that remove steps from the chart.
- When the dance gauge turns red, the player's lane now receives a Danger overlay.
- On widescreen cabinets shipped with DanceDanceRevolution X, the speakers will turn red as well.
- EX SCORE is now always displayed in the results screen.
- The DanceDanceRevolution (2013) EXTRA STAGE boss songs (Monkey Business, Another Phase, Air Heroes, Spanish Snowy Dance, New Generation, and Blew My Mind), DanceDanceRevolution (2013)'s ENJOY LEVEL songs, as well as the 私立BEMANI学園, jubeat・GITADORA・DDRのTriple Journey, and YuniverHills project (ユニバーヒルズproject) songs, are now playable by default, even without an eAMUSEMENT pass.
- The Chinese version CHALLENGE variants introduced in DanceDanceRevolution X2 are no longer playable; their original Japanese versions are used instead when playing.
- First arcade DanceDanceRevolution title officially released in North America since DanceDanceRevolution X2.
- This is the first ever North American DanceDanceRevolution release to officially support eAMUSEMENT.
- The North American version has a new marquee currently used only in that region, other regions continue to use the generic marquee introduced with DanceDanceRevolution (2013) or (2014).
- The North American version is the first release in that region to not translate, transliterate, or romanize song titles or artists, instead leaving them in Japanese.
- The KAC 2012 licenses from DanceDanceRevolution X3 VS 2ndMIX are not present on the North American version.
- North American players can choose the states in U.S.A. instead of Japan's prefectures.
- 8 licensed western pop songs were added to coincide with the game's North American release (July 7th, 2016 in Japan; July 6th, 2016 in North America).
- This marks the first appearance of Billboard Hot 100 songs since DanceDanceRevolution X2.
- First DanceDanceRevolution title to be location tested in Europe since DanceDanceRevolution X2.
- The location test uses the North American build, housed inside a DanceDanceRevolution X prototype cabinet.
- The location test is the longest of any BEMANI game, lasting three months.
- All remaining Dancemania licenses that are not remixes of KONAMI original songs were removed from the series on May 30th, 2016, making DanceDanceRevolution A the first core arcade DanceDanceRevoution title to have no traditional Dancemania licenses in it.
- From June 1st, 2017, the Level of the chart being played is shown during gameplay.
- This update also blocked CHALLENGE-only charts from being shown when players do not use an eAMUSEMENT PASS.
- First arcade DanceDanceRevolution title since DanceDanceRevolution X to utilize more than 3 labeling colors to denote special songs on the Music Select screen.
- In this case, white represents default songs, yellow represents unlocked songs, green represents songs unlockable via EXTRA SAVIOR, purple represents songs unlockable from the NEW Generation 流星拡散フェスタ2016 event, red represents an EXTRA EXCLUSIVE song.

Unlockable Songs
BABY-LON'S ADVENTURE
This event started on August 8th, 2016. At the end of every song, you will see a pixel BABY-LON climb up stairs to reach the top of a staircase. Upon reaching the top, you'll unlock a song. You will earn steps based on your grade:
- AAA: 12
- AA: 11
- A: 10
- B: 9
- C: 8
- D: 7
- E/fail: 6
In addition, you'll receive bonuses for reaching these goals in a song:
- Get a MAX COMBO of at least 100: 1
- FULL COMBO: 2
- First play of the day: 1
The bonuses for MAX COMBO and FULL COMBO cannot be combined.
Once a song is unlocked, progress is reset to 0 starting on the next world.
Each song in the event requires more steps to reach the top than the last. The step requirements for songs are as follows:

- Towards the TOWER: 49

The event concludes after unlocking Dancer in the flare.

RINON'S ADVENTURE
This event started on April 27th, 2017. It is only available during Premium Play, and will only appear after the player has completed BABY-LON'S ADVENTURE.
Similar to BABY-LON'S ADVENTURE, RINON will advance by an amount of steps earned after a song, but only for the EXTRA STAGE song. Steps earned for grade are the same as in BABY-LON'S ADVENTURE, but the combo and first-time play bonuses do not apply. Once a song is unlocked, it becomes available during any stage, even for Normal Play. Progress is then reset to 0 starting on the next world.
RINON'S ADVENTURE I songs each require 35 steps to unlock; RINON'S ADVENTURE II songs require 82 steps, and RINON'S ADVENTURE III songs require 105. After unlocking Cosy Catastrophe, 156 steps are required to complete RINON'S ADVENTURE properly, which will unlock ENDYMION for EXTRA STAGE Level 3; a special cutscene will play when this occurs.

EXTRA STAGE
The Result Star system introduced in DanceDanceRevolution X3 vs 2ndMIX was carried over, and is only available during Premium Play. To access EXTRA STAGE, you must collect 9 Result Stars. If you fail to collect 9 in a single round, progress is carried to the next round.
A maximum of 3 Result Stars can be earned per song per player. Both players' Result Stars are combined, even if one of them is on Normal Play. Result Stars' requirements were changed:

During EXTRA STAGE, the LIFE GAUGE modifier is restricted to LIFE4, and you will have access to special folders.
At the end of every round, your RINON's HEAT POWER gauge will increase by one bar. Once you fill up three bars, you advance to EXTRA STAGE Level 2, which gives three additional Result Stars at the end of each round. Fill it up four more times for EXTRA STAGE Level 3, which gives you a full set of Result Stars, and automatically unlocks charts played on EXTRA SAVIOR even if failed. This means that every round past your 7th will result in EXTRA STAGE. RINON will do a "forced cooldown" during the eAMUSEMENT maintenance window, returning you to Level 1.
If you have completed RINON'S ADVENTURE and are on EXTRA STAGE Level 3, a brief cutscene will play and the sky in the background will turn red.
EXTRA EXCLUSIVE songs
This event started June 13th, 2016. By default, EXTRA EXCLUSIVE songs are only available during FINAL STAGE (even during Normal Play), or during EXTRA STAGE Level 1 or Level 2; see EXTRA EXCLUSIVE LEVELs below. However, by progressing through RINON'S ADVENTURE, these songs can be unlocked for any stage, along with their CHALLENGE charts.
From July 13th, 2017, ENDYMION may be selected for EXTRA STAGE after fully completing RINON'S ADVENTURE and reaching EXTRA STAGE Level 3. The game will display a warning. Selecting Yes will play a special cutscene and expend all of RINON's HEAT POWER gauge, returning you to Level 1.
Clearing ENDYMION with at least an AA+ grade will trigger ENCORE EXTRA STAGE, automatically playing ACE FOR ACES on DIFFICULT and displaying "ATTACK! PERFECT FULL COMBO!!". Any judgment under Perfect will immediately fail the song. Clearing the song will unlock the CHALLENGE chart for ENDYMION.

EXTRA SAVIOR
This event started on June 13th, 2016. When these songs are played in EXTRA STAGE, they can be unlocked for any stage, even on Normal Play.
After playing a song on a specific difficulty level, progress through the chart accumulates. If the summed progress of all of your attempts reaches 100% (or if you clear the song), then that chart, and all difficulties under it, will be unlocked for normal play. For example, clearing a song on DIFFICULT will unlock the DIFFICULT, BASIC, and BEGINNER charts. Also for example, failing a chart 70% in, and then failing it again 40% in, will also unlock the chart.
Using chart-altering modifiers (e.g. CUT, disabling Freeze arrows) will disqualify you from unlocking the chart.
Single and Double charts for a song must be unlocked separately.
For songs with CHALLENGE charts (such as IX and JOMANDA), you must first unlock the EXPERT chart before you can unlock the CHALLENGE chart.
NEW Generation 流星拡散フェスタ2016 charts must be unlocked one at a time, from BASIC to EXPERT. Charts for Triple Counter are only available after having unlocked the corresponding charts of the other five songs.
