General Information

• The only IIDX style to have either a full video or overlays for every new song.
• All avex trax licenses prior to IIDX RED have been removed.
• First beatmania IIDX arcade game since 3rd style to remove songs but not revive any.
• Last beatmania IIDX arcade game until beatmania IIDX 20 tricoro with no new licenses.
• Last beatmania IIDX style to have hidden GAME OPTIONS on the title screen.
• All new songs had a brand new title card font.
• AGEHA and RED ZONE have unique videos now.
• Interface has lots of light blues. The scrolling backgrounds also include clouds and a sky motif.
• Full combo has a rising blue splash.
• RANDOM+ is unlockable.
• Extra Stage requirement has changed. To unlock the Extra Stage, you must HARD clear a 10 or higher with at least a AA. To unlock the One More Extra Stage, you must HARD clear the Extra Stage on ANOTHER with a AA or higher.
• eAMUSEMENT support for beatmania IIDX 12 HAPPY SKY ended on March 8th, 2006.
  • Similar to pop'n music 11, this is an extremely rare case where the service for one BEMANI game ends before its next installment. HAPPY SKY's follow-up, DistorteD, wouldn't be out for another week.
• Total number of songs: 369

Changes

• beatmania IIDX 12 HAPPY SKY marks what appears to be a new chapter in the series, with numerous changes to the difficulty ranking system and modifiers:
  • LIGHT was renamed to NORMAL, and 7KEY/14KEY was renamed to HYPER. ANOTHER is left unchanged.
  • The difficulty scale, which previously ranged from Level 1 to Level 8+, has been expanded to Level 12. Most songs rated above 7 have been rescaled to this new difficulty meter.
  • ANOTHER charts are now individually rated.
  • HI-SPEED settings now range from 0.5 to 4.0 at .5 step intervals.
  • HIDDEN+ and SUDDEN+ are now selectable modifiers. Acting as an in-game towel mode, you can hold Start as the song begins and spin the turntable to set the amount of Hidden or Sudden you want to use. A grey bar will cover up the portion of the screen you choose. These can be combined for HID+/SUD+, but would have to be set for the same distance on both parts of the screen.
  • All difficulty levels for a song are listed now when a song is highlighted, as opposed to just listing the currently selected difficulty level.
  • The LIGHT7 and 7KEYS modes have been combined together into a new mode called STANDARD, allowing you to freely switch between NORMAL, HYPER, and ANOTHER charts as you wish.
    • You are guaranteed at least two songs if the first song you fail is rated 5 or lower.
  • eAMUSEMENT only:
    • The background music for the Select Music screen can be chosen via IIDX Wave. Choices include music from dj TAKA, TOMOSUKE, and DJ Yoshitaka, as well as background BGM from 7th style onwards.

DJ POINT unlocks

The following five songs require a certain amount of DJ POINTs to obtain. How many are required depends on which of five paths you take to unlock the songs. (Note that these songs' BEGINNER charts can be played by default in BEGINNER, sans TOE JAM, which doesn't have one.) Regardless of the path you take, each song unlocks in the same amount of points: 100, 400, 700, 1000, and 1300. Order, from top left to bottom right, are as follows:

Hidden Song

To unlock 月光, you must clear ten specific songs revolving around moons, stars, light, or songs sung by Kanako Hoshino (if you have score data of the pre-HAPPY SKY songs being cleared already from beatmania IIDX 11 IIDX RED, you will still need to play them again). The ten songs are as follows in the following games:

• substream: THE EARTH LIGHT
• 5th style: RIDE ON THE LIGHT (HI GREAT MIX)
• 8th style: STAR FIELD
• 9th style: lights, moon_child
• 10th style: Back Into The Light
• IIDX RED: D.A.N.C.E.!, 太陽～T・A・I・Y・O～
• HAPPY SKY: MOON RACE, SPARK!

Once these are all cleared, you'll unlock 月光.

As of September 7th, 2005, 月光 is unlocked for everyone to play.

EXTRA STAGE / ONE MORE EXTRA STAGE

To make SCREAM SQUAD appear in the EXTRA STAGE, the player must HARD CLEAR all three songs rated Level 10 or higher (HYPER charts are also allowed) with at least an AA rank or better, without using RANDOM or MIRROR. To access 冥 as ONE MORE EXTRA STAGE, the player must AAA SCREAM SQUAD using the same method above.

Both of these songs were unlocked for normal play on September 7th, 2005, and SCREAM SQUAD can still be played on EXTRA STAGE by pressing both the EFFECT and VEFX buttons after FINAL STAGE.
