''Stage'' (ステージ) is ノスタルジア's main unlocking system. At the start of your credit, players have to choose a Stage. Each Stage have multiple Chapters, and in order to complete them, a certain number of Steps must be reached, symbolized as a staircase. Every time a song is played, Croit (the black cat) moves up Steps on the staircase (opening a Door to enter a Chapter also counts as one Step). Note that in the case that the player unlocks a new song, that song ''has'' to be played before entering another Chapter, otherwise the Steps gained since the last unlock will not count towards the next Chapter, similar to ''BEAST CRISIS'' in [[AC BST AnimTribe|BeatStream アニムトライヴ]] or ''dig dig Qubell'' in [[AC jb Qubell|jubeat Qubell]] (some Chapters require you to play other, already unlocked songs to unlock more Chapters as well).

The maximum number of Steps given by playing a song will depend on the difficulty played: 4 for Easy, 7 for Hard, and 10 for Expert, with 1 Step being the minimum (even when a song is failed). Number of Steps obtained can also vary with Brooches (ブローチ). Steps are accumulated between Chapters.
