General Information / Changes
- First beatmania IIDX game with HD graphics.
- First beatmania IIDX game under KONAMI's eAMUSEMENT Participation system; as such, it requires a connection to the eAMUSEMENT network. If the game cannot connect, it will not start up.
- Gameplay interface is overhauled.
- First beatmania IIDX game to have the video window be in 4:3 aspect ratio.
- In Single Play, if there is only one player present and the opposite side column is not being used for TARGET SCORE, it will be removed to display the background video at a larger size.
- Changes to the results screen:
- Results screen pics return.
- Total Notes information no longer on song results screens.
- Music now plays on result screens.
- The difficulty and level of the song you just played are displayed.
- New songs have black backgrounds with yellow text. This is the first beatmania IIDX game since beatmania IIDX 4th style in which a game's new songs have black backgrounds, and the first in the series with colored text.
- All old songs now use the Commador Wide Normal font as well on the splash screen before a song (except for songs with unique title cards).
- First beatmania IIDX arcade game since their respective debuts with no new songs by DJ Mass MAD Izm*, DJ Command, or PRASTIK DANCEFLOOR.
- First beatmania IIDX game since Seiya Murai's debut with no new song by him on the default songlist.
- First beatmania IIDX arcade game since beatmania IIDX 12 HAPPY SKY with no new licenses.
- Make A Difference, SABER WING, sakura storm, Sweet Sweet ♥ Magic, and 桜 now have their videos from the DanceDanceRevolution series.
- Modifier selection is overhauled:
- The beginner option screen is offered by default; only "assist" modifiers can be selected on this screen (EASY, 5KEYS, AUTO SCRATCH, and LEGACY NOTE).
- A more traditional modifier screen is also available; modifier categories have been reorganized so there are now four (STYLE, GAUGE, ASSIST, and RANGE), the first three of which can be cycled up and down by using the top and bottom key rows respectively.
- A new options screen, called "detailed options" (詳細オプション), is introduced for selecting a ghost type, and options previously only accessible through codes (JUDGE among others).
- First arcade beatmania IIDX game to allow the player to change the timing offset.
- You can cycle through these options screens with the Effect Change and VEFX buttons.
- HI-SPEED is overhauled:
- HI-SPEED can now only be changed by holding Start in-game; it is no longer available from the modifier screen.
- The HI-SPEED range is now 0.5 to 4.0, and values now correspond to the speed multiplier applied to chart, meaning HS 1.0 is equivalent to no HS on previous IIDX versions. (Multiplier values for HS mods in previous versions can be found here.)
- With Floating HI-SPEED enabled (by pressing the Effects button), you can set HI-SPEED with the turntable in .01 increments from 0.5 to 10.0. Doing so in conjunction with an active SUDDEN+ and/or LIFT will cause the lane cover to adjust in order to maintain the current green number.
- Floating HI-SPEED is not available without switching out of the beginner option screen.
- Should the song change tempo, holding Start and then moving the turntable will correct the Hi-Speed setting to match the original green number.
- With Floating HI-SPEED disabled, you can increase and decrease HI-SPEED by .5 increments with the black and white keys respectively within the same range.
- This is the first release since 6th style CS to feature LOW-SPEED (by using a HI-SPEED value under 1.0).
- You can now switch the score graph and movie's locations by pressing the Start button on the side opposite the one you are playing on.
- The current beatmania IIDX font for a note combo is first used in this game, replacing the font used from beatmania IIDX 9th style to beatmania IIDX 19 Lincle.
- Players can now see how they rank on a specific song against other players in the same arcade.
- Today's Featured Songs introduced. Every day, on all machines, three songs are marked as "featured"; playing them will reward the player with extra dellars. The featured songs are chosen under a certain criteria which changes weekly, from Wednesday to the Tuesday of the successive week.
- The default EXTRA STAGE is now called LIMIT BURST. The first LIMIT BURST song, Sol Cosine Job 2, is an original song for IIDX, while other LIMIT BURST songs are crossovers from other BEMANI games - songs that were never crossed over before, with high-end charts in their respective origin games.
- First beatmania IIDX game with no Expert Mode.
- Various older songs had their overlays removed from their videos due to the overhauled interface. Full list here.
- There were three special events based on the three colors of tricoro (red, yellow and blue). The color of the user interface also changes accordingly.
- LEGEND CROSS (tricoro / RED): 10/10/2012 - 12/05/2012
- Ω-ATTACK (tricoro / BLUE): 12/12/2012 - 03/20/2013
- ぼくらの宇宙戦争 (tricoro / YELLOW): 03/21/2013 - 08/14/2013
- STEP UP mode returns, and has been heavily overhauled.
- The Vol.1 soundtrack is the first beatmania IIDX soundtrack to receive a release outside of Japan.
- Some of the tracks on the international version of the soundtrack are tagged differently from their counterparts in the Japanese version.
- First beatmania IIDX game to feature a storyline explained throughout the main game events. The Lincle Kingdom and Lincle Princess events from beatmania IIDX 19 Lincle are considered canon to this story.
- First beatmania IIDX game to have different "layers" for its BGM, adding more instruments on the transitions from Entry to Mode Select to Music Select screens.
- System voice was provided by an acquaintance of Naoyuki Sato (the other, pitched-down voice is provided by ALT).
- eAMUSEMENT support for beatmania IIDX 20 tricoro ended on December 27th, 2013.
- Total number of songs: 787

Shiritsu BEMANI gakuen (私立BEMANI学園)
The Shiritsu BEMANI gakuen event consists on raising the Friendship between two artists to 100% in order to unlock a certain song. You need to check the Shiritsu BEMANI gakuen eAMUSEMENT site after you've reached 100% to claim an unlock.
You can raise the Friendship degree by playing either beatmania IIDX 20 tricoro, DanceDanceRevolution (2013), GITADORA, jubeat saucer, pop'n music Sunny Park or REFLEC BEAT colette -Spring-. Depending of the game that you're playing, certain songs will raise the Friendship degree of two artists faster than on the other BEMANI games. For more information, please see its own page.
NOTE: The Shiritsu BEMANI gakuen event ended on December 19th, 2013. The remaining songs can be unlocked by play count on beatmania IIDX 21 SPADA.
Songs are ordered from the one that gives you more Friendship (and as such, you can unlock it faster in beatmania IIDX 20 tricoro), to the one that gives you the least. To unlock Elemental Creation, you must have unlocked all the previous 9 Shiritsu BEMANI gakuen songs, then you need to raise the Friendship degree of dj TAKA and DJ YOSHITAKA to 100%.

Q-pro, Mimi, Nyami & Pastel-kun no minna de uchuu sensou!! (クプロ・ミミニャミ・パステルくんのみんなで宇宙戦争!!)
The Q-pro, Mimi, Nyami & Pastel-kun no minna de uchuu sensou!! (クプロ・ミミニャミ・パステルくんのみんなで宇宙戦争!!) collaboration event with REFLEC BEAT colette and pop'n music Sunny Park began on July 29th, 2013. It is based on the unlock system of OUR SPACE WAR (ぼくらの宇宙戦争); this time, songs are unlocked individually and not per-store.
Playing more than one of the participating games in the same day will increase the progress speed for that day. It is not possible to unlock certain crossovers on other games if they're not unlocked yet in the ones where they originated from (like Proof of the existence or Valanga).
Unlocks depend on what enemy is attacked:
- Attacking the first form of Holster Mk.V unlocks beatmania IIDX crossovers on REFLEC BEAT and pop'n music.
- Attacking TENT-KANT unlocks pop'n music crossovers on beatmania IIDX and REFLEC BEAT.
- Attacking the evil Pastel-kun unlocks REFLEC BEAT crossovers on beatmania IIDX and pop'n music.
NOTE: The battle screen will not appear if two people play the game.
UPDATE: From October 31st, 2013 to November 25th, 2013, damage against the enemies was gradually increased. Only available to KONAMI Arcade Championship 2013 players.
From September 12th, 2013, Zirkfied can be unlocked once the crossovers on all three games have been unlocked.
From December 19th, 2013, the progress speed has been tripled for everyone to commerate the start of the Nettou! BEMANI Stadium (熱闘!BEMANIスタジアム) event. In addition, you can check the unlock progress through the event's eAMUSEMENT page.
From January 23rd, 2014, the unlock progress will be only shown on the event's eAMUSEMENT page and not anymore in the games.

Unlock Information
Extra Stage
In Standard Mode, during your final stage, the following conditions will allow you to access the Extra Stage:
- obtaining a perfect combo
- obtaining a full combo on a 5 or greater on Single Play or a 4 or greater on Double Play
- finishing with 100% gauge on a 7 or greater on Single Play or a 6 or greater on Double Play
- clearing an 8 or greater on Single Play or a 7 or greater on Double Play
What happens during your first two stages has no influence on whether or not a normal extra stage is attainable, so you could, for example, fail the first two stages with a DJ VIP Pass and still obtain an Extra Stage as long as you met the conditions on the final stage.
LIMIT BURST
Unlike prior versions, tricoro provides multiple boss songs for its default Extra Stage. With the exception of Sol Cosine Job 2, all of these songs are boss songs from other BEMANI games that have not been crossed over before.
Each LIMIT BURST song, in addition to requiring the Extra Stage to be unlocked and that the first three stages consist of songs from a specific subset of songs, has four different phases of unlock conditions. Each phase, except for Phase 4, has a minimum total difficulty requriement and minimum clear status requirement. Phases for each song cycle every week, until Phase 4 (except for Timepiece phase II).
- Phase 1:
- NORMAL and HYPER charts are not available.
- ANOTHER chart: Total difficulty of at least 33 and a Full Combo.
- Phase 2:
- NORMAL chart is not available.
- HYPER chart: Total difficulty of at least 27, Hard Clear or above.
- ANOTHER chart: Total difficulty of at least 33, Ex Hard Clear.
- Phase 3:
- NORMAL chart: Total difficulty of at least 18, Assist Clear or above.
- HYPER chart: Total difficulty of at least 27, Normal Clear or above.
- ANOTHER chart: Total difficulty of at least 33, Hard Clear or above.
- Phase 4:
- All charts: No difficulty requirement, Assist Clear or above.
WARNING: Failing any stage will prevent any LIMIT BURST songs from appearing, even if you have met the requirements for that song.
02/18/2013 UPDATE: To unlock the charts of the LIMIT BURST songs in STANDARD mode, you need to buy Devil Cards and Angel Cards using Dellars. If you played them as LIMIT BURST Extra Stages, you can unlock them by using Devil Cards; otherwise, you have to use the more expensive Angel Cards.
