The fourth REFLEC BEAT arcade release, announced on 04/24/2014. It was replaced by REFLEC BEAT groovin'!! Upper on November 20th, 2014, marking REFLEC BEAT groovin'!! as the first REFLEC BEAT game to have an "APPEND" version.

General Information / Changes

  • A new point currency system, called "Refle" (リフレ), is introduced to REFLEC BEAT, similar to beatmania IIDX's DELLARs/FRICOs and SOUND VOLTEX's BLOCKs/PACKETs.
  • A fourth difficulty, SPECIAL, was added to REFLEC BEAT.
    • According to Qrispy Joybox, SPECIAL is more akin to the CHALLENGE difficulty of DanceDanceRevolution, and doesn't necessarily mean a song's SPECIAL chart is just a harder version of its HARD chart.
  • A new object type, Vertical Objects, are introduced to REFLEC BEAT. Unlike the other notes, Vertical Objects don't bounce on the sides, and can be either Normal, Long, Chain or TOP notes.
  • A new gameplay mode, REFLEC Dojo (リフレク道場), was added. Requires PASELI.
    • The existing grading system from limelight and colette has been abolished in favour of a Dan rating. Dan ratings can be acquired through REFLEC Dojo and is similar to beatmania IIDX's Dani Nintei mode.
  • A trophy system, similar to beatmania IIDX's Tran Medal system, was implemented.
  • All unlocks from the earlier arcade REFLEC BEAT titles are now unlocked by default, except for the following:
  • Elisha, smooooch・∀・ and サヨナラ・ヘヴン now use their respective uncut versions.
  • A screenshot function was added on September 12th, 2014.
  • The default opening and system background music are composed by Sota Fujimori.

MYSTICAL STRIKE

The MYSTICAL STRIKE event started on September 12th, 2014.

To unlock the songs, you need to defeat the phantom beasts (幻獣, genjuu) that represent each song. To reach the phantom beasts, you have to move up along roads of 15 squares. To advance squares, you have to play songs which satisfy certain requirements (which depend on which phantom beast road you are taking).

After advancing the 15 squares, you play against the phantom beast boss; however, you can't kill the boss in the first try. Once the boss has been fought at least once, you can challenge it again in normal play with any song by using the Phantom Beast Radar (available under ONLINE PLAY on the song selection screen, it charges itself when playing). The bosses are weak to certain songs. Once the phantom beast boss HP reaches 0, you unlock its song.

  • Griffin: Gale Rider / P*Light - get AAA (but not AAA+) grades on every song that you play (weakness: songs related to the sky).
  • Vampire: WICKeD CRφSS / OSTER project - play songs with a BPM (the maximum BPM in the case of songs with BPM changes) that ends with 9 (weakness: songs related to crosses).
  • Asura: 鬼天 / 兎々 - play for your 1ST to FINAL ROUNDs, songs that start with "a", "shu" or "ju/jyu", and "ra" (あ, しゅ/じゅ, ら), in that order (weakness: foreign songs).
  • Leviathan: Proluvies / かめりあ - play songs related to water (weakness: songs related to lightning).
  • Cyclops: Giant Strength / RoughSketch - play songs from REFLEC BEAT (weakness: "intellectual" songs).
  • Chimera: Cytokinesis / Hommarju - play a song from every genre (J-POP, Anime/Game, Variety, U.M.U., KONAMI original. Songs in the Classical genre and songs whose genres overlap are excluded from the requirement.) (weakness: songs related to animals).
  • Bahamut: onslaught / PHQUASE - unlock the previous six MYSTICAL STRIKE songs (weakness: songs from the MYSTICAL STRIKE event).

Coca-Cola×BEMANI

The Coca-Cola×BEMANI event started on October 23rd, 2014, and ended on January 22nd, 2015. By purchasing Coke products at the "location test" stores, you get a D ticket, which can be used once on a day. During that day, the first song will be available for play.

Two other songs were later added in REFLEC BEAT groovin'!! Upper.

REFLEC Dojo (リフレク道場)

In the REFLEC Dojo (リフレク道場) mode, you play a course of three songs against the CPU. Unlike other BEMANI games, the songs in the course are not fixed, but instead, you have to choose between a few songs that fit the course theme. The HP gauge system is taken from PASTEL WONDER TRAVELER's BOSS BATTLE MODE (REFLEC BEAT colette -All Seasons-).

There are two types of courses, those being Nintei Shiken (認定試験) and Kentei Shiken (検定試験).

Nintei Shiken is REFLEC BEAT's equivalent of beatmania IIDX's Dani Nintei mode. These courses are skill based courses and starts from 5th Kyu to Legendary Instructor (名誉師範). Upon clearing one of these courses, your profile will be updated with a plaque that correspond to the cleared course. Nintei Shiken courses allows you to select from 3 songs in the 1ST ROUND, and 2 songs from the 2ND ROUND. The 3RD ROUND, however, will always be fixed. Due to the abolition of the grading system from limelight/colette, the rank you acquire from Nintei Shiken will affect 2 things:

  • Rankings affect song selections for the first 2 stages (e.g. players ranked below 7th Kyu will not be able to access level 10+ songs till the FINAL ROUND while players with 8th Kyu and above will be able to select 10+ songs in the 2ND ROUND.)
  • Matchmaking now relies on the player's ranking.

Kentei Shiken are courses based on a theme. For example, the Qrispy Test contains songs written by Qrispy Joybox, the Long Test contains songs which focuses on Long objects and so on. These courses are not strictly skill based, therefore, the charts that are available for selection can range from level 5 to level 10+. Only Kentei Shiken courses contain SPECIAL charts as well as new songs that must be cleared in order for them to be bought in the REFLEC Shop.
