Tim Leffman, an Englishman nearly 2m tall, is a hardcore live guitarist who spent most his life playing the acoustic guitar, singing, and travelling.<br> | |||
I got to know him through TaQ's previous recording of his album and decided to feature him on this song. | |||
He usually performs in Irish pubs and bars, so he is, like most musicians, a typical night owl.<br> | |||
Aside from "SummerVacation", based on the original concept of the sun, the recording began at a studio in Shibuya during the day on the Obon holiday. | |||
The reason for working with Tim was simple. | |||
We had to be careful, as our relentless processing of the sound would sometimes offend the musicians. Musicians play sounds with their own meaning, and we don't like to change them. Tim is very flexible in that regard, as his interests in new music and sounds is never ending. Thanks to him, we were able to try a new method of using Tim's recordings at the beginning of the project. | |||
While feeling full from the necessity of coffee in the studio (with free refill), we confirmed each other's intentions and set the tempo with handclaps. | |||
Tim showed us the phrases he came up one after another. Imagining the rhythm from his phrases, we formed an appropriate loop and began recording.<br> | |||
TaQ entered the booth with Tim and directed with a live vibe feeling, while TAKA stayed in the control room with an objective perspective.<br> | |||
In the end, it took less than 3 hours to finally see the song and get the necessary phrases. | |||
TaQ took the recorded material back to our studio, and started editing the guitar and arranging the rhythms, and the OutPhase remix battle began. | |||
