Beat Square

KONAMI at the Global Gaming Expo, or "G2E" for short, 2016 convention in Las Vegas, Nevada, announced Beat Square, a gambling redemption game based on the BEMANI series' jubeat series. Songs would have been 45 seconds in Solo/Single Mode and 90 seconds (or 1:30 minutes) in Tournament Mode.

The G2E 2016 location test only had four songs:

  • The Marriage of Figaro (Electronic)
  • Promenade (Electronic)
  • Rock Vocal (Rock Vocal)
  • Rhapsody in Blue (Big Band)

These new songs had no artist credit and genetic jackets, which were also used to present genre. There was also an unknown song used during the skill contest.

The G2E 2017 location test saw the game's name changed to Beat Square Tournament on the title screen. The announcement trailer for this version can be watched here. It also presented a new design and UI, and some Konami originals were added (which can be seen on promotional materials, as shown here):

Beat Square won the "Best Slot Product" in the 2018 Gaming & Technology Awards for having the "most outstanding product among the slot machines exhibited" during the G2E 2017 exhibition.

At the G2E 2018 location test, the game's name on title screen was changed back to "Beat Square" and saw another revision to the UI and design. Most of the old songs from the previous location tests were removed, however, 9 new licenses were added:

A licensed original song was also created for Beat Square: Reckless Abandon by Whistling Dixies. Supposedly, Beat Square was scheduled for release in 2018, but was pushed back for unknown reasons.

While Beat Square was received fairly well at the Global Gaming Expo for the three years its been showcased, according to its trademark, as of August 5th, 2019, this game has been cancelled.

  • The bits of information were finite, here's what I could find about Beat Square. Would this be fine to add to the list? - QueenZ (talk) 21:31, 12 May 2021 (UTC)
