No more will I wait
I've got to make my move
You'd never treat me wrong
If you knew how I'm feelin'
Baby can't you see?
To make you mine, oh mine
I'll turn things upside down (upside down)
Hunting for you
Why don't you love me?

(Oh oh oh) I want some kissin' cuz you know what I'm missin'
(Yeah) The earth goes quakin' when you're keepin' me shakin'
(Oh) Gonna start my chasing now
I wanna catch you and make you meow

You're the sweetest
How can I win your heart?
In a moment I'll crash
Nothing will calm me down
'Til you really love me
Darlin', hold me tight

No more will I wait
I've got to make my move
You'd never treat me wrong
If you knew how I'm feelin'
Baby can't you see?
To make you mine, oh mine
I'll turn things upside down (upside down)
Hunting for you
Why...

Long Version

★ No more will I wait
I've got to make my move
You'd never treat me wrong
If you knew how I'm feelin'
Baby can't you see?
To make you mine O mine
I'll turn things upside down
Hunting for you
Why don't you love me?

You're the sweetest
How can I win your heart?
In a moment I'll crash
Nothing will calm me down
Till you really love me
Darlin' hold me tight

No more will I cry
My face wants me to smile
Life won't be this way
If I knew with what I'm dealin'
Baby it's too late
I can't go back in time
To tell myself to stop
Hunting for you
Why don't you need me?

RAP:
I want some kissin' cuz you know what I'm missin'
The earth goes quakin' when you're keepin' me shakin'
Gonna start my chasing now—I wanna catch you and make you meow

I'm the weakest
But now I'll take control
Of myself and of you
Just like an animal
Going after its prey
I will make you mine

★ Repeat

Hunting for you
Why don't you love me?

Togo of "Togo Project"

R&B is shaking up the modern J-POP scene.
The debut of Hikaru Utada definitely had a lot to do with it, but now artists are popping up like mushrooms in a rainy forest... Even looking at the charts, they used to be dominated by Komuro-style dance pop until just recently, but now I can feel the march of time. Record companies may make themselves more popular just by crowning themselves as a "female R&B vocalist" label, but there's just so many of them that I get a little fed up.

"R&B... Popular Black American music that debuted in the 1940s. Due to the sheer diversity in musical and performance styles - such as harmonic ballads, or jump blues in jazz combo form - no clear criteria for a definition has been established."
(Excerpt from 'beatmania GOTTAMIX Official Guide', published by NTT)

... So it says. The characteristics of Japan's currently popular J-R&B genre are as follows.

  1. Female vocalists with emotional singing and a sense of fashion both styled after Black women.
  2. A slightly bouncy groove of around 100 BPM. The rhythm tracks use methods from breakbeats.
  3. A "sad" minor seventh cyclical chord progression. ("Minor seventh" being the name of a musical chord, not a new version of 'Ultraseven'...)
  4. Simple bass phrases. The backing is somewhat low-key.

That's an explanation of the genre from a sound producer's perspective, but that's about it, right?
For those of you who like the genre, your local store these days will have plenty of CDs lined up, so listen to a wide variety of albums.

In 'Hunting for you' for GOTTAMIX, I used a sequencer to compose everything except for the guitar.
I like the song itself, too (I actually wrote the melody some years ago, so I'm quite fond of it.)
The vocalist is Megumi Oka, who's scheduled to make her CD debut with a certain major record company. The English lyrics and rapping are courtesy of the mysterious (?) DJ Scotty D. The stocky, fierce-looking character that pops up in the game during the song is actually him! (When he takes off his sunglasses, he has really gentle eyes.)

A long version of the song will be included on 'GOTTAMIX Original Soundtracks' (KMCA-24 <LC428>), set to be released by Konami Music Entertainment on Friday, August 27th.
The remix has tighter bass, and is a great listen, so be sure to check it out. See ya later!

Here's another song ported over from GOTTAMIX on PlayStation. The track is your basic R&B number that has a catchy melody and rapping.
