* HI-SPEED 4.5 and 5.0 have been added.

* A new "DP FLIP" option has been added that will swap the 1P and 2P sides of the notechart during Double and two-player (non-Battle) play.

* New song remixes no longer indicate the original artist for a song. Instead, the artist name for a song remix is "Remixed by (Artist Name)".

* First beatmania IIDX game since the introduction of EXTRA STAGE songs in [[AC 7th style|beatmania IIDX 7th style]] not to have a default EXTRA STAGE or ONE MORE EXTRA STAGE song; instead there is the CARDINAL GATE system. The default EXTRA STAGE system would return come the [[AC GOLD|next game]], however.

* This is the last beatmania IIDX arcade game where [[Tatsuya_Shimizu|Tatsh]] is one of the sound directors. He would later be replaced by [[Toshiyuki Kakuta|L.E.D.]] in [[AC GOLD|beatmania IIDX 14 GOLD]].

== CARDINAL GATE ==

Instead of using the EXTRA STAGE system introduced in [[AC 7th style|7th style]], DistorteD instead uses a new EXTRA STAGE system titled CARDINAL GATE, which has four EXTRA STAGE exclusive songs inside its own folder. To access the CARDINAL GATE folder, you must do the following:

** Note that you can use any modifiers you want on all three songs, including EASY gauge and modifiers that disqualify you from scoring.

Inside the CARDINAL GATE folder, you will be given a selection of four songs, all referred to solely by their artists. Each song also has a unique frame used while playing it. All difficulties are available.

From beat#3 onwards, all the CARDINAL GATE songs are unlocked by default. The CARDINAL GATE folder can no longer be accessed through normal means, though you can still trigger it with the use of a code.
