To start a game, the user have to either press the Start button or insert a mode of payment. The following screens will then be encountered during a regular game:

Since [[AC DDR SuperNOVA2|DanceDanceRevolution SuperNOVA2]], the scoring system stayed basically the same. Following the addition of Shock Arrows (SA) in [[AC DDR X|DanceDanceRevolution X]], they were also added to the step score formula. The maximum score possible for a song is 1 000 000 points. Scores are always displayed as multiples of 10 as no score will end with a digit other than 0.

A combo is created after hitting X steps without getting a Miss. A Full Combo (FC) happens when all of the songs' steps were hit by the player with the same timing. Since DDR 2013, the timing Good don't break a combo anymore.
