* First BEMANI game to feature a modernized version of an older game as a game mode. 2ndMIX MODE is a high-definition remake of [[AC DDR 2nd|DanceDanceRevolution 2ndMIX]] with all the songs except [[STRICTLY BUSINESS]] and the STEP BATTLE songs featured.
** However, this is not the first time 2ndMIX has been remade; a previous remake exists in [[AC_DDR_3rd|DanceDanceRevolution 3rdMIX]], though using the 3rdMIX interface.
** However, this is not the first time 2ndMIX has been remade; a previous remake was done in [[AC DDR 3rd|DanceDanceRevolution 3rdMIX]], using the 3rdMIX interface.
* Characters in 2ndMIX MODE no longer have their original dance routines. They use the routines introduced in the previous game, instead.
** Characters in 2ndMIX MODE no longer have their original dance routines. They use the routines introduced in [[AC DDR X|DanceDanceRevolution X]] and [[AC DDR SuperNOVA|DanceDanceRevolution SuperNOVA]] instead.
* Interface theme is taken from [[CS DDR II|DanceDanceRevolution II]] for the Nintendo Wii console.
** 2ndMIX MODE also uses the same camera angles as the main game. Because of this, the dancers appear very small in-game.
* DRILL COURSE from [[AC DDR X2|X2]] is removed.
** Much like 2ndMIX, mechanics featured after 2ndMIX (such as Freeze Arrows or Shock Arrows) are absent.
* Target Score system added. Player can choose a different rival / own score to track between songs.
* Interface theme is taken from [[CS DDR II|DanceDanceRevolution II]].
* BEMANI TITLE sort option added. This sorts songs according to which of the other 5 major BEMANI series they also appear in.
** The system background music is based on the default music select from DanceDanceRevolution II as well, which was composed by [[Yasuhiro Taguchi|TAG]].
* First DanceDanceRevolution game to use Star system to determine if player gets EXTRA STAGE.
* DRILL COURSE from [[AC DDR X2|X2]] has been removed.
* First DanceDanceRevolution game to feature the RISKY option outside of the ENCORE EXTRA STAGE. Similar to the Sudden Death option while playing the ENCORE EXTRA STAGE and the GuitarFreaks & DrumMania series' HAZARD mode, breaking your combo will result in failing the song instantly.
* Last DanceDanceRevolution game to feature courses until [[AC DDR A20|DanceDanceRevolution A20]].
* An update introduced QUICK PLAY mode, in which the player may pay to play on a per-song basis using PASELI credits, rather than pay for a set of songs.
* All DanceDanceRevolution X2 licenses originally featured in [[CS DDR HOTTEST PARTY3|DanceDanceRevolution HOTTEST PARTY3]] and [[CS DDR X2|DanceDanceRevolution X2 CS]] have been removed.
* Last game in the X series of games. However, its interface and unlock systems would later be re-used in [[AC DDR 2013|the subsequent game]].
** Subsequently, all licenses from ''A Different Drum'' records were also removed.
* Total songs: 507
* The CLUB background dance stage introduced in [[AC DDR X2|DanceDanceRevolution X2]] has been removed. It would later be restored in [[AC DDR A|DanceDanceRevolution A]], though.
* A Clear Marker system has been added, replacing the clear notes from DanceDanceRevolution X2 when a song was cleared. A diagonal "sticker" will appear on top of the song's cover jacket, which comes in the following colors:
** Blue: normal CLEAR;
** Green with a circle mark: cleared with a GREAT FULL COMBO; and
** Gold with a circle mark: cleared with either a PERFECT/MARVELOUS FULL COMBO.
* Target Score system added, allowing the player to select a rival or their own score to track between songs.
* BEMANI TITLE sort option added. This sorts songs according to which of the other five major BEMANI series they also appear in.
* First DanceDanceRevolution game to use the Star system to determine if player gets EXTRA STAGE.
* First DanceDanceRevolution game where song selections under a selected folder are shown and the other folders are not shown. This is also seen in [[AC DDR 2013|DanceDanceRevolution (2013)]].
* An update on August 2nd, 2012 introduced QUICK PLAY mode, in which the player can pay to play on a per-song basis using PASELI, rather than pay for a set of songs.
** EXTRA STAGE-exclusive songs can be played in Quick Play Mode with a normal lifebar as long as the player has nine Result Stars.
* Last game in the X series. However, its interface and unlock systems would later be re-used in the subsequent game.
* Last DanceDanceRevolution game to feature accessories as wearable customization for characters.
* Last DanceDanceRevolution arcade game to use KONAMI's 2003-2013 logo.
* [[e-amusement|eAMUSEMENT]] support for DanceDanceRevolution X3 VS 2ndMIX ended on April 30th, 2013.

== APPEND TRAVEL ==
{|class="wikitable" border="1px" style="background:#ccccee; font-size:90%; text-align: center; margin: 1em auto 1em auto;"
APPEND TRAVEL was an event involving seven BEMANI series to promote the release of [[jubeat copious APPEND]]. Each BEMANI game received at least a brand new song and could also buy songs and special items using APPEND ENERGY.

The event started on March 14, 2012 and ended on September 25, 2012. However, it was still possible to unlock the APPEND TRAVEL songs but not buy the event items after that.

=== Items ===
[[Image:DDR X3 APPEND TRAVEL jubeat kamen.png|thumb|[[ALICE]] wearing the jubeat仮面 in X3.]]
APPEND TRAVEL allowed players using [[e-AMUSEMENT]] to earn APPEND ENERGY (AE) by playing the 7 participating BEMANI games. It was the only way to buy the collaboration songs for play in jubeat. It was also possible to buy special items such as customisation options and abilities for use in the other games during the duration of the event only. Once bought, a notification for the item will appear on the next login in the game.

The ENJOY LEVEL Boosters were enhanced (double effect) on August 2, 2012 to September 2, 2012 as part of the Summer Boost Campaign (サマーブーストキャンペーン).

=== Unlock Requirements ===
To unlock songs, the event required the players to get Daily Stars (<span style="color:#00F;">★</span>), an item also used to access the EXTRA STAGE. A Daily Star is obtained on the first new play session of the day when using e-AMUSEMENT.<br>
By default, TWINKLE♡HEART was unlocked on the very first day of the event, except for its CHALLENGE charts. In order to unlock the CHALLENGE charts, the player had to play five days in a row four times. It was possible to take a break after each set of 5 days.

After September 25th, the requirements were reduced for the last four items to be unlocked by getting 4, 5, 6 and 7 consecutive Daily Stars respectively.

== Daily Special ==
For the red Result Star (<span style="color:#ff4b3e;">★</span>), the following levels have to be cleared depending on the player's title. The titles are shown at the start and end of a credit, below the ENJOY LEVEL, after introducing an eAMUSEMENT PASS (note that only the highest title between Single and Double Play is shown):
At AOU 2012 on February 17th, 2012, KONAMI announced a new event called Daily Special (デイリースペシャル) for [[e-AMUSEMENT]] users only. It began on February 20, 2012 and ended on May 28, 2012. During the event, a different BEMANI crossover was unlocked each day of the week from Monday to Friday only. Each day began at 7:00 am following the daily maintenance. The cycle of the song unlocking had been shuffled three times, on March 19, April 16, and May 14, 2012.<br>
On May 5, 2012, an additional event called Weekend Special (ウィークエンドスペシャル) was added. During Weekend Special, the songs cycled hourly instead. This event also ended on May 28, 2012, date where all songs were unlocked for regular play.

== KAC 2012 Songs ==
To unlock the EXTRA STAGE, the player must accumulate nine Result Stars, after which the stars are used and must be obtained again. If EXTRA STAGE is not reached, any stars are carried over to the next playthough via eAMUSEMENT. Each player has its own set of stars whether if it is played on VERSUS or not, and no more than nine stars can be carried at a time. If either player access EXTRA STAGE on VERSUS, both players' stars are used instead, regardless of count.
With the exceptions of REVOLUTIONARY ADDICT and Go For The Top, the following songs are remixes of [[AC DDR 2nd|DanceDanceRevolution 2ndMIX]]'s Konami original songs, which appeared on the ''DanceDanceRevolution 2ndMIX ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK presented by ダンスマニア album''.

* [[REVOLUTIONARY ADDICT]] / [[Yasuhiro Taguchi|TAG underground]]
EXTRA STAGE can also be accessed on cabinets without e-AMUSEMENT support, but since these stars do not carry over between each playthrough, the only way is to obtain exactly three stars per song.
* [[KEEP ON MOVIN' (Y&Co. DJ BOSS remix)]] / [[Naoki Maeda|N.M.R]]
* [[PUT YOUR FAITH IN ME (DA's Twinkly Disco Remix)]] / [[Naoki Maeda|UZI-LAY]]

== EXTRA STAGE / ENCORE EXTRA STAGE ==
Since each player can obtain a maximum of three per song, Result Stars higher in the list above take priority over lower ones. For example, a player getting a AAA Full Combo on their first song of the day will receive the three white stars for a grade of AAA, and will not receive the green Full Combo star. The colors of the Result Stars have no importance for unlocking EXTRA STAGE.

;EXTRA STAGE Requirement
<nowiki>*</nowiki>Unlike the other Result Stars, the dark blue Daily Star is obtained on the end-of-game screen after the player's first round of the day, and is obtained even if the player fails some or all of their stages or does not play on PRO Mode. For example, if the player obtains 8 Result Stars on their first round of the day, they have not met the EXTRA STAGE conditions by the time they complete FINAL STAGE. However, they will receive a 9th star just afterward, guaranteeing that they will be able to unlock EXTRA STAGE on their next round.
In order to access the EXTRA STAGE, X3 introduced the "Result Star System", a feature available only when playing via [[e-AMUSEMENT]] in PRO Mode. To unlock the EXTRA STAGE, the player have to get 9 Result Stars during a game or multiple games, the Result Stars are carried over from play session to another using e-AMUSEMENT. Once the player unlock the EXTRA STAGE, the 9 Results Stars are used, thus removed. When using VERSUS PLAY, once one player have 9 stars, the EXTRA STAGE is unlocked and both players Stars will be used in the process. The colors of the Star have no importance, only the amount (9) is required to unlock the EXTRA STAGE.

Result Stars are given to the player(s) under specific conditions:
At first, two exclusive songs, one for each STAGE (EXTRA and ENCORE EXTRA) are available; more songs are added over time. This time around, songs were also added directly as EXTRA STAGE and others kept their ENCORE EXTRA STAGE-only status until they were finally unlocked for everyone.

The player can only obtain a maximum of 3 Result Stars for each song played. Thus, some type of Result Stars have priority over the other stars:<br>
White / Yellow / Aqua Star > Green Star > Red Star > Dark Blue Star.

For example, a player getting AAA on his first song of the day will receive the three stars for a grade of AAA and the Daily Star (dark blue) won't be used. The Star(s) that was lost in this process are not carried over in the next game, it is lost forever. Also, no Star is given for a E (FAILED) a song.

;ENCORE EXTRA STAGE Requirement
As of April 25th, 2012, Amalgamation received CHALLENGE charts after being unlocked for all players. As of November 5th, 2012, all the songs introduced as EXTRA/ENCORE STAGE have been unlocked for normal play.
To unlock the ENCORE EXTRA STAGE, the player have to get an AA or AAA on the EXTRA STAGE song. No Result Star are needed in this case.
=== Unlock Schedule ===
At first, two exclusive songs, one for each STAGE (EXTRA and ENCORE EXTRA) were available. Similar to how EXTRA/ENCORE STAGE worked in previous games, more songs were added over time. This time around, songs were also added directly as EXTRA STAGE and other even kept their ENCORE EXTRA STAGE-only status until they were finally unlocked for everyone.

By 11/05/2012, all the songs introduced as EXTRA/ENCORE STAGE were unlocked for normal play.
; ENCORE EXTRA STAGE Requirement
To unlock the ENCORE EXTRA STAGE, the player must get a rank of AA or higher on EXPERT difficulty on an EXTRA STAGE-specific song. No Result Stars are earned on either EXTRA STAGE or ENCORE EXTRA STAGE.
* For Tohoku EVOLVED, you cannot use the WAVE modifier when playing any EXTRA TOUR song during EXTRA STAGE.
* For LOVE IS THE POWER -Re:born-, a PERFECT FULL COMBO is required to clear it (anything below PERFECTs or any N.G. on Freeze Arrows will trigger an instant stage failure).

== EXTRA TOUR ==
EXTRA TOUR was announced on May 12, 2012 and started on May 14, 2012. In this event, four new songs were added as EXTRA STAGE. They each appeared in specific regions at first and moved to other regions each day. After playing all EXTRA TOUR songs at least once, scoring AA or better on EXPERT on any of these songs unlocks the ENCORE EXTRA STAGE, Tohoku EVOLVED.
EXTRA TOUR was announced on May 12th, 2012 and started on May 14th, 2012. In this event, four new songs were added as EXTRA STAGE. They each appeared in specific regions at first and moved to other regions each day (non-Japanese cabinets were set in the Tokyo prefecture). After playing all EXTRA TOUR songs at least once, any one of them could be used to unlock a new ENCORE EXTRA STAGE, Tohoku EVOLVED. = 2ndMIX MODE =
A completely remade [[AC DDR 2nd|DanceDanceRevolution 2ndMIX]] is featured as a separate mode in DanceDanceRevolution X3 VS 2ndMIX. This revamped version features high definition graphics, 2ndMIX dancing characters, remastered banners (with the original typos), and background animations. Nearly all of the original gameplay found in the game was kept such as the modifiers requiring command codes in order to use them, COUPLE Play being available, and hidden songs with various requirements each to make them appear. Also, all the old terminology was kept such as CUT1 returning to its former name, LITTLE.

The notable differences between the original game and the HD remake are:
* The new widescreen ratio (16:9 instead of 4:3).
* The game runs at 60 FPS now, instead of the original 30.
* All the songs from the LINK VERSION, [[STRICTLY BUSINESS]], and the three STEP BATTLE songs were not included.
* [[DREAD]] and [[JANET]] are the only possible characters. It is not possible to change them with [[AFRO]] and [[LADY]].
* Some of the in-game sounds (particularly the crowd cheering and countdown) are borrowed from X3 rather than re-using the original sounds from 2ndMIX.
* 2ndMIX MODE difficulty is rated from 1 to 10, due to PARANOiA Revolution and TRIP MACHINE EVOLUTION having a 10 and 9 in their charts, respectively. Originally, all songs in the game were rated from 1 to 8.
* As of June 20th, 2012, the score display has been made wider to accommodate potential 10-digit scores from PARANOiA Revolution and TRIP MACHINE EVOLUTION, and has also been moved towards the centre of the screen.

== Tsugidoka! (つぎドカ!) ==
As of June 20th, 2012, obtaining an SS rank (a FULL COMBO-only grade in 2ndMIX) on all stages before FINAL STAGE will unlock one of the following two new songs for the FINAL STAGE (both songs can also be played in ROULETTE):
BEMANI Linked Song Battle "Tsugidoka!" (BEMANI連動選曲バトル「つぎドカ!」) was a linked battle event between four BEMANI series. The goal was to find a winner song to be transplated to [[jubeat saucer]]. Each series had a representative song made by its sound director: [[Yasuhiro Taguchi|TAG]] for DanceDanceRevolution X3 VS 2ndMIX, [[Daisuke Kurosawa|96]] for [[AC GFDM XG3|GuitarFreaksXG3 & DrumManiaXG3]], [[Daichi Watanabe|PON]] for [[PnM AC SP|pop'n music Sunny Park]], and [[Tatsuya Iyama|Qrispy Joybox]] for [[REFLEC BEAT colette -Winter-]].
* In NORMAL MODE (2ndMIX), TRIP MACHINE EVOLUTION will then be playable.
* In HARD MODE, PARANOiA Revolution will then be playable.

As of July 4th, 2012, the Revolution boss course was revealed in X3, giving access to the two songs' DIFFICULT and EXPERT charts in X3 MODE (the course also included the four regular EXTRA/ENCORE STAGE songs).

The event started on December 19th, 2012 with the four songs being added to the participating series (GuitarFreaks & DrumMania received rock arrangements of Cosmic Hurricane and snow prism). The winner song was selected using the total play counts on all the games combined at the end of the event on January 8th, 2013. The winning song 紅焔 was transplated to jubeat saucer on January 9th, 2013. The other songs were added to jubeat saucer on February 1st, 2013 via saucer bistro 5th set.

= 2ndMIX MODE =
A completely redone [[AC DDR 2nd|DanceDanceRevolution 2ndMIX]] is featured as a separate mode in DanceDanceRevolution X3 VS 2ndMIX. This revamped version have high definition graphics, 2ndMIX dancing characters, banners (with the original typos) and background animations.  Nearly all of the original gameplay found in the game was kept such as the modifiers requiring command codes in order to use them, COUPLE Play being available, hidden songs with various requirements each to make them appear. Also, all the old terminology was kept such as CUT1 returning to its former name, LITTLE.

The notable differences between the original game and the HD remake are:
* The new widescreen ratio (16:9 instead of 4:3).
* All the songs from the LINK VERSION, [[STRICTLY BUSINESS]] and the three STEP BATTLE songs were not included.
* [[DREAD]] and [[JANET]] are the only possible characters, it is not possible to change them with [[AFRO]] and [[LADY]].
* 2ndMIX MODE difficulty rated from 1 to 10, due to PARANOiA Revolution and TRIP MACHINE having a 9 and 10 in their charts. Originally all songs in the game were rated from 1 to 8.

== APPEND TRAVEL ==
[[APPEND TRAVEL]] was an event involving seven BEMANI series to promote the release of [[AC jb copious APPEND|jubeat copious APPEND]]. Each BEMANI game received at least a brand new song, and could buy songs and special items using APPEND ENERGY.

The event started on March 14, 2012 and ended on September 25, 2012. However, it was still possible to unlock the APPEND TRAVEL songs but not buy the event items after that.

=== Items ===
[[Image:DDR X3 APPEND TRAVEL jubeat kamen.png|thumb|[[ALICE]] wearing the jubeat仮面 in X3.]]
APPEND TRAVEL allowed players using e-AMUSEMENT to earn APPEND ENERGY (AE) by playing the 7 participating BEMANI games. It was the only way to buy the collaboration songs for play in jubeat. It was also possible to buy special items such as customization options and abilities for use in the other games during the duration of the event only. Once bought, a notification for the item will appear on the next login in the game.

The ENJOY LEVEL Boosters were enhanced (double effect) on August 2, 2012 to September 2, 2012 as part of the Summer Boost Campaign (サマーブーストキャンペーン).

=== Unlock Requirements ===
To unlock songs, the event required the players to get Daily Stars (<span style="color:#00F;">★</span>), an item also used to access the EXTRA STAGE. A Daily Star is obtained on the first new play session of the day when using e-AMUSEMENT.

By default, TWINKLE♡HEART was unlocked on the very first day of the event, except for its CHALLENGE charts. In order to unlock the CHALLENGE charts, the player had to play five days in a row four times. It was possible to take a break after each set of 5 days.

After September 25th, the requirements were reduced for the last four items to be unlocked by getting 4, 5, 6, and 7 consecutive Daily Stars respectively.

== CROSSOVER DDR ==
== CROSSOVER DDR ==
On August 2, 2012, the CROSSOVER DDR event started. During the event, players can unlock every 2ndMIX songs for play on X3's PRO Mode or Quick Play. The two exceptions are HERO, as the song is already in X3 (using the X-edit version from X2) and PARANOiA MAX~DIRTY MIX~(in roulette), as there is no Roulette option in X3. For their appearance in X3, every song received a brand new jacket made of the disc seen in 2ndMIX. The song's banner was added on 4/20/2012 at the bottom of the disc on the jacket. The unlocked songs appears in the X3 folder instead of the 2ndMIX folder, they would return to their original folder in [[AC DDR 2013|DanceDanceRevolution (2013)]].
As of August 2nd, 2012, the CROSSOVER DDR event started, allowing players to unlock all 2ndMIX songs for play on X3's PRO or QUICK PLAY MODEs. These songs are given brand-new jackets based on the CD artwork as seen in 2ndMIX along with the banner at the bottom of the disc on the jacket (added on April 20th, 2012), and are located in the X3 VS 2ndMIX folder instead of the 2ndMIX folder. The two exceptions for these unlocks are HERO (which uses the X-edit version from X2) and PARANOiA MAX~DIRTY MIX~(in roulette) (due to the lack of Roulette option).

In 2ndMIX Mode, the song list is divided in two parts: EASY / NORMAL Mode and HARD Mode. Each song have to be played in its respective 2ndMIX's sub-mode in order to be unlocked in X3. Both SINGLE and DOUBLE charts have to be unlocked individually on every difficulty available: BASIC, ANOTHER and MANIAC (SP only). After unlocking the first chart for a song in SINLE Play, the new BEGINNER chart is also unlocked. Clearing all the three difficulties will also unlock the CHALLENGE charts for play in X3 Mode. In DOUBLE Play, clearing the two difficulties will unlock the EXPERT and CHALLENGE charts for that song in X3.
In 2ndMIX MODE, the song list is divided into two parts: EASY / NORMAL Mode and HARD Mode. These songs are:
* EASY / NORMAL Mode: BAD GIRLS, BOOM BOOM DOLLAR, BOYS, HAVE YOU NEVER BEEN MELLOW, IF YOU WERE HERE, KUNG FU FIGHTING, LET'S GET DOWN, MY FIRE, PUT YOUR FAITH IN ME, PUT YOUR FAITH IN ME(Jazz Groov), SMOKE, THAT'S THE WAY(I LIKE IT), TRIP MACHINE, TRIP MACHINE EVOLUTION and SP-TRIP MACHINE~JUNGLE MIX~
* HARD Mode: AM-3P, BRILLIANT 2U, BRILLIANT 2U(Orchestra-Groov), butterfly, DUB-I-DUB, GET UP'N MOVE, HERO, I believe in miracles, IF YOU WERE HERE, LITTLE BITCH, MAKE IT BETTER, MAKE IT BETTER(So-REAL Mix), PARANOiA, PARANOiA MAX~DIRTY MIX~, PARANOiA MAX~DIRTY MIX~(in roulette), PARANOiA Revolution and Stomp to my beat

On 6/02/2012, obtaining the rank of SS (a FULL COMBO-only grade in 2ndMIX) before the FINAL STAGE will unlock one of the two following songs for the FINAL STAGE:
Playing each chart will unlock the song into X3 mode; each difficulty, alongside Single/Double play styles, has to be unlocked separately:
*In NORMAL Mode (2ndMIX), TRIP MACHINE EVOLUTION will then be playable.
* Unlocking at least one Single chart for the song also unlocks the song's BEGINNER chart.
*In HARD Mode, PARANOiA Revolution will then be playable.
* Unlocking all difficulties also unlocks the song's higher difficulties (CHALLENGE, and in the case of Double Play, EXPERT as well).
* COUPLE charts do not satisfy the condition, as COUPLE MODE does not exist in X3.

To make them appears in X3 and also appears later as EXTRA STAGE in X3, all the charts found in NORMAL and HARD Mode respectively, have to be cleared. Finally, scoring AA or better on these songs on EXPERT unlock the ENCORE EXTRA STAGE, LOVE IS THE POWER Re:born. The song was previously only found playing during the ending credits of [[CS DDR 2ndReMIX PS|DanceDanceRevolution 2ndReMIX's]] ARCADE mode.
The FINAL STAGE exclusives, TRIP MACHINE EVOLUTION and PARANOiA Revolution, cannot be unlocked directly through playing the song itself. To actually unlock the the player must play every song (including HERO and PARANOiA MAX~DIRTY MIX~(in roulette)) for the corresponding EASY / NORMAL and HARD Mode, respectively, which will allow these songs to be played in X3 mode (as EXTRA STAGE). Both songs are also given CHALLENGE charts, though these songs are exclusive to Quick Play.

On 11/05/2012, all the 2ndMIX songs were fully unlocked for everyone.
On November 5th, 2012, all the 2ndMIX songs were fully unlocked for everyone.

= Difficulty Changes =
= COURSES =
The following songs have received difficulty changes since their last arcade or console appearance:
Note that the vs X3, vs 2ndMIX, UPPER, BEMANI, and Revolution courses use LIFE8 for NORMAL difficulty and LIFE4 for DIFFICULT difficulty, instead of the NORMAL life gauge like the other courses.
