Are you familiar with the genre "Rotterdam techno"? It spawned long ago in the Rotterdam region of the Netherlands, and rages with a fierce sound.

When I first listened to Rotterdam techno, my feeling was, "This sounds like music that very stupid people would make," a sentiment probably echoed by most people who've listened to it. But it turns out that this was no mere gathering of stupid people. Honestly speaking, the track was full of impact, burning itself into the minds of many and never to leave. The genre's fierce sound was definitely not pop (rather, the complete antithesis of it), and the ample amount of negative power it wielded led it to be used as background music in a lot of TV shows at the time.

Having been moved emotionally by its impact at the time, I went and bought a bunch of compilation CDs of the very music I thought was made by very stupid people. It probably wouldn't be an exaggeration to say that the word "stupid" is a compliment to its negative power (laughs).

Afterwards, Rotterdam techno would branch off and evolve in two different directions. One direction was "happy hardcore," which somewhat suppresses the fierce, radical sounds, and overlays pop melodies. The other direction was "gabbah," the faster, louder, natural progression (?) of Rotterdam techno. On a side note, 'GABBAH' from GOTTAMIX and 'HAPPY' from 4thMIX could be considered distant relatives in terms of their genres.
