A piano student of concert pianist Jenny Hubner Geering, his mother, Stephen excelled in music at an early age. By the time he was eighteen, he had seen and heard every major conductor in the world with the Chicago Symhpony Orchestra. Stephen had his own band that played the Chicago club circuit and another in LA with some of LA’s premiere session players. Stephen studied music composition and improvisation in San Francisco at the conservatory of music and Lone Mountain College (where he befriended Jeffrey Kahane) and piano with Art Lande (Mark Isham's band mate), a brilliant ECM artist.
