He ended up rejecting all possible suitors, including the nymph Echo. As punishment, the Greek gods cursed Narcissus, making him one day feel the pain of unrequited love. One day, as he passed a pool of water, Narcissus saw his own reflection in the water and he fell in love with it. He stayed at the pool, entranced by his own reflection, never leaving the pool until he died.
