Category talk:Pop'n music Songs

Hey. It occurs to me that, since genres are basically THE unique identifier for most Pop'n songs, maybe we should restructure the song lists in the releases to have the genre first, then the title, artist, and character? Song names, page titles, romanization

Also, since Pop'n songs tend to have non-Latin characters a lot more than IIDX songs do, I'd like to submit this request here:

Let's not link to non-Latin song names as page titles!

The reason I say this is two-fold. First, non-Latin titles make for URLs that have lots of %XX characters in them, which makes URLs as an identifying tag completely useless. Second, it makes it possible to type a URL or link for a song name, even if you don't have a Chinese/Japanese/Korean/whatever IME installed on your computer, without resorting to copy-paste (which necessitates finding the text somewhere online). The text in the first header, on the other hand, and the text of the link (but not its destination) should be the title exactly as it appears in the game.

Now, of course, this brings up the issue of standard romanization schemes for at least three different languages. Japanese is easy - everybody's favorite tired modified Hepburn method seems to be fairly common (si becomes shi, zi becomes ji, ti becomes chi, di becomes ji, tu becomes tsu, du becomes zu, hu becomes fu), and I think it's what we've been using pretty consistently. Chinese is also easy - pinyin (IMO). (Please no Wade-Giles. It makes the baby Miz cry.) Korean is a bit more of a pain, since there are at least two contemporarily used romanization standards. *shrugs* I don't have an opinion on that yet.

Category Name

I know there's Category:IIDX CS Songs, but is there a reason to differentiate Category:Pop'n Songs from Category:Songs? I mean, there's a few that overlap like Pink Rose and Votum stellarum (to name some recent examples off the top of my head [because I've been listening to the Happy Sky soundtrack over and over]), but couldn't those pages just be expanded to have a IIDX section and a Pop'n section? It would seem to me to make more sense to have all the songs in one place. That, or rename Category:Songs to Category:IIDX Songs or something. -JD 04:06, 18 Mar 2006 (PST)

Actually, I like renaming Songs to IIDX Songs. We have good IIDX song and Pop'n song page layouts, and I'd really rather not try to mash the two together. Especially since Pop'n song pages are going to be so long as it is. --Miz 18:44, 25 Mar 2006 (EST)

There is an issue with how the "First Appeared On" line on the song page currently only refers to IIDX. If the songs are going to all be in the same category with each other, it would be clearer and make more sense to have "First Appeared On" indicate the song's first Bemani appearance, and then add "First IIDX Appearance" and "First Pop'n Appearance". -JD 22:45, 26 Mar 2006 (EST)

Okay, I've added the IIDX Songs category to all AC IIDX songs, I think. So, please use the new IIDX Songs category for all new IIDX Songs pages. Also, please only use the Pop'n Songs category on Pop'n songs pages. (e.g., 321 STARS gets IIDX Songs, while 321 STARS (Pop'n) would get Pop'n Songs.) --Miz 16:39, 1 Apr 2006 (EST)

I'm confused. I thought the point of having separate categories was to make one article for each song and include all relevant information (whether it's for Pop'n, IIDX, or both) on that single page, and then put the page in the appropriate category(s). If there's going to be separate Pop'n and IIDX song pages, I think it'd be more helpful to have them all in one single "Songs" category, since the alphabetical sort will keep them together, and the page title would already state which game it's from. --JD 08:51, 2 Apr 2006 (EDT)

Like I said before, I'm not a fan of the "Let's put everything on one page!" philosophy, because that will get big once we start adding Pop'n song info, as those pages are pretty long-winded, especially in later versions. If you'll notice, however, all of the IIDX song pages I edited belong to both Category: Songs and Category: IIDX Songs. Also, page titles like "Shaka" or "MINIMALIAN" don't give you any clue which game the song is from - this is the case where the song appears only in one game or the other, which is by far the most common case. I don't know what you mean by "the alphabetical sort will keep them together", but songs from the same game will be spread out. Anyway, that's my take on it. --Miz 09:36, 2 Apr 2006 (EDT)

Subcategory Suggestion

• Considering that a very low amount of the KOs from pop'n 7 onwards have ever been removed, no, I don't see it as necessary. pop'n does not remove songs constantly like IIDX does. --FinalOffset (talk) 13:47, 3 January 2021 (UTC)
