Lyrics
The following lyrics are from the soundtrack version of the song, in-game the lyrics change depending on your judgement.
Hey! I'm DJ KONAMI, the DJ of 'beatmania'. Listen carefully, if you wanna be a good DJ. The gauges on both sides display the keys and turntable on your panel. Objects come down from the top. When they hit the red line, you play the correct key. All right? Then let's play the white key on the far left. That's it! Too late. Now, let's play a combination of white key and black key. That's it! That's it! Let's go on a scratch game. When a red object on the right comes to the red line, you scratch the turntable. Be careful, scratching one way counts as one time, scratching back & forth counts as two times. Now play! That's it! That's it! OK, let's finish by playing a combination of all keys and the turntable. Too bad. That's it! This is all I can show you. Make a good sound!
Song Connections / Remixes
- A different PRACTICE STAGE is used in the original beatmania.
- PRACTICE STAGE shares the "yo" sample with Do you love me?, also from beatmania 2ndMIX.
Trivia
- Normally, PRACTICE STAGE can only be played in PRACTICE mode from beatmania 2ndMIX onwards.
- However, using a hidden debug feature (described here and here on The Cutting Room Floor), it can be played in NORMAL mode on 2ndMIX and 3rdMIX.
- In 2ndMIX, if you wait (without hitting any keys) until the YOUR DJ LEVEL screen attempts to scroll down, the game will crash and reset (presumably due to not having genre text mapped in ROM).
- You can prevent this crash by hitting a key before the screen attempts to scroll down.
- The bug described above was fixed in 3rdMIX, and the screen scrolls down normally to show a genre of PRACTICE.
- In 2ndMIX, if you wait (without hitting any keys) until the YOUR DJ LEVEL screen attempts to scroll down, the game will crash and reset (presumably due to not having genre text mapped in ROM).
- However, using a hidden debug feature (described here and here on The Cutting Room Floor), it can be played in NORMAL mode on 2ndMIX and 3rdMIX.
- In all versions, PRACTICE STAGE does not have an entry on the song select screen, nor a unique title card screen.
- In 2ndMIX, if you play it in NORMAL mode using the hidden debug feature, the title card screen shown is the one for u gotta groove. In 3rdMIX, it is the one for s.d.z.
- Scratching in the clockwise direction produces a different sound from scratching in the counterclockwise direction; this is a relatively rare phenomenon in the beatmania series.
- However, in beatmania CS, there is only one scratch sound for both directions; this was fixed in beatmania European Edit.
- In the initial version of 3rdMIX (JA-A), DJ KONAMI says "red" line in his instructions to the player, despite the color of the judgment line being changed from red to green in 3rdMIX.
- In later revisions of 3rdMIX (JA-B, the South Korea version, and the Europe version), the subtitle is corrected to say "green" line, but the voiceover remains uncorrected.
