General Information

  • Released: November 2001
  • First game in the series to keep track of greats, goods, and bads at the bottom of the screen in every mode.
  • First game in the series to tell you the BPM of a song during the song.
  • First game in the series with Miss animation that fades into the background of the character who misses, instead of occurring automatically each time they miss a note.
  • First game in the series that shows you your combo count right above the pop-kun you hit, as opposed to the center of the screen.
  • Jun Wakita starts writing music for the series.
  • Tomosuke Funaki makes his Pop'n Music debut, as does Shoichiro Hirata.
  • The official web site is the first one since Pop'n Stage which shows a picture of the character in a song AND their background in that song.
  • The soundtrack is the first to include songs from console versions made 2 games prior to the current arcade version. In this case, the Pop'n Music 7 soundtrack contains songs from the PlayStation version of Pop'n Music 5. This trend has continued with soundtracks to this day.
  • In addition, this is the first Pop'n Music to consist of more than one CD on its soundtrack (the Pop'n Music 3 vs. Pop'n Stage CDs don't count as they're seperate games).
  • The character designs from this game would later be used in the home-only Pop`n Taisen Puzzle Dama Online.
  • Total number of songs: 94

Let's make Pop'n Music 7 Together!

Prior to the release of Pop'n Music 7, a poll was held on Konami's web site as to what songs should get a remix in Pop'n Music 7. All songs from Pop'n Music 1 through 6 (plus the 4 CS songs at the time) were eligible. Visual 2 (Cry Out) got the most votes out of all the songs listed, with a total of 845 votes, with Power Folk 2 second with 735 votes (although it never got a remix. However, there was a Live version in Pop'n Music 8). Other strong songs included Pop'n Music 2's Digi-Rock (626), Pop'n Music 5's Soft Rock (601), Pop'n Musc 6's Digi-Pop (490), and Pop'n Music 6's Hip Rock (465). At the end Visual 2, Night Out, and New Age were remixed (despite New Age being in 69th place with only 44 votes), and Soft Rock got an extended version courtesy of Pop'n Music sound director Wakita Jun.

Name that Character!

Shortly before the release of Pop'n Music 7, a contest in Japan was held to anyone to name three of the game's new characters. The contest was known as "PapaMama * 7". Shortly before the game was released, the winners were announced, as well as the names of the new characters;

  • Teruo (a man with brown hair who wears a blue jacket, who appears in J-ALTERNATIVE, as well as FOLK ROCK in Pop'n Music 10)
  • Peetan (a panda riding on a giant ball, seen in the song CIRCUS)
  • Kagome (a poet who wears a long black dress), who appears in MISTY, as long as its extended version in Pop'n Music 9
