• Release Date: October 19, 2001

General Information / Changes

• None of the songs from 5thMIX or before was retained.
• The dancing characters were removed.
  • They're replaced with background animations, this time stored as videos instead of sprites.
• Freeze Arrows are introduced. Unlike the regular arrows, you must hold the Freeze Arrow during its duration.
• BASIC, TRICK and MANIAC difficulties are renamed as LIGHT, STANDARD and HEAVY, respectively.
• First DanceDanceRevolution game with the Extra Stage boss song mechanic.
• Difficulty ratings were removed. They would come back come the next game, however.
  • Consequently, the songs that were cut from DDRMAX2 do not have official difficulty ratings.
