General Information / Changes

5thTitle.gif

  • First beatmania game with Dancemania licenses, much like the DanceDanceRevolution series.
  • Combo is only counted in BASIC mode, and not in HARD mode or EXPERT mode.
    • This was the last arcade beatmania game in which combo was not counted in a mode.
  • Flashing GREATs only appear in EXPERT mode, being the only beatmania game where this is the case.
  • Songs are now displayed in a list on the right side of the screen, with their levels in a star to the left of their name.
  • First beatmania game to distinguish between new songs and returning songs on the song select screen. Songs new to or debuting in 5thMIX have a red star next to the title, while returning songs have a blue star.
  • Only beatmania arcade title with "Hard Version" charts, which can be played in later stages on HARD mode.
  • Two new modifiers were introduced: SUDDEN and HI-SPEED.
    • SUDDEN: Causes notes to appear in the middle of the screen, instead of from the top.
      • Can be combined with HIDDEN to make HIDDEN+SUDDEN, which causes the notes to not appear at all.
        • This behavior was changed in THE FINAL so that notes briefly appear in the middle of the screen (the old no-note behavior was retained as a separate STEALTH modifier).
    • HI-SPEED: Multiplies the scroll speed by x2.0.
      • This modifier would be renamed to "HI-SPEED 1" in the Korean release of 5thMIX, and in completeMIX 2, in light of the additions of HI-SPEED 2 and 3.
      • Its multiplier value of x2.0 would remain the same until CORE REMIX, where it would be changed to x1.5 for the rest of the series.
  • The beatmania 5thMIX ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK contains not only the songs from beatmania 5thMIX, but also the songs from beatmania 4thMIX 〜the beat goes on〜 which had not been removed in 5thMIX.
  • The Korean release was known as beatstage 5thMIX -Time to get down-, and has a few differences compared to the Japanese release.
    • By default, BASIC and HARD modes use groove gauge mechanics similar to those of DanceDanceRevolution (EXPERT mode still uses the normal EXPERT mode groove gauge).
      • The groove gauge starts at a maximum of 100%, decreases with BADs/POORs, and increases with GREATs/GOODs.
      • When the groove gauge is at the lowest level, it will say "!DANGER DANGER!"; after enough further BADs/POORs, the stage will be failed on the spot.
      • As long as the song ends with any amount of groove gauge, the stage will be cleared.
      • The normal groove gauge can be re-enabled for BASIC and HARD modes by setting DIP switch 3-5 to ON.
    • A new feature, PERFECT PLAY, has been added to EXPERT mode; when enabled (by holding EFFECT before selecting EXPERT), getting anything lower than a GOOD will result in an immediate game over.
    • HI-SPEED 2 and HI-SPEED 3, which debuted in Japan in beatmania completeMIX 2, are present in this version.
      • These modifiers multiply the scroll speed by x3.0 or x4.0, respectively.
      • Their multiplier values of x3.0 and x4.0 would remain the same until CORE REMIX, where they would be changed to x2.0 and x3.0 respectively, for the rest of the series.
    • Two songs were removed from the Korean release: KAKATTEKONKAI and TOTAL RECALL.
    • LINN 1999's genre name was changed from HARENTI TECHNO to TECHNO POP.

Songs With Default Scroll Speed Multipliers

  • Some songs in this game have a scroll speed multiplier applied to them by default when playing certain charts.
    • In other words, on such charts, the in-game BPM is higher than the displayed BPM, and thus the chart scrolls faster than the displayed BPM would imply.
    • When a HI-SPEED option is used on such a chart, that HI-SPEED's multiplier will stack (multiply) with that chart's default scroll speed multiplier.
  • Songs that have such charts, as well as other relevant information, are shown in the table below (for all games and applicable songs, see here).
Song Display BPM Multiplier (B/H/A*) In-Game BPM (B/H/A*)

Codes & Unlock Information

Unlock All Songs

  • To unlock all songs in BASIC or HARD mode, follow the steps below on the title screen while it says to press either START button.
  1. While pressing keys 5-4-4-3-3-2-1-3-3-9-8-1, rotate the 1P turntable clockwise once.
    1. Rotate the turntable a little bit at a time, starting after first pressing the 5 key.
    2. The judgment for rotating the 1P turntable is based on the initial position when 5 is pressed, and the final position before START is pressed.
  2. Press either START button.
    1. This step can also be combined with the various options that can be selected on the title screen (see Select Options).
  • If successful, after BASIC or HARD mode is selected, LOGICAL DASH will appear in the list on the song select screen when selecting the first stage.
  • If performing the code still does not unlock songs, the turntable wiring is reversed and should be corrected.
    • When the turntable wiring is correct, rotating the turntable clockwise increases the turntable value in the I/O TEST menu, and moves the cursor down on the MODE SELECT screen.
  • The unlocked state will not save between games, and the code must be entered each time before the game is started.
  • Note that this is the only way to play the song THRASH TRAXX, and the only way to play LINN 1999 in BASIC and HARD modes outside of the final stage.

Unlock Secret EXPERT Courses

  • To unlock the secret EXPERT courses (NAGUREO MIX; SLAKE MIX; ANOTHER MIX), follow the steps below on the MODE SELECT screen.
  1. Highlight BASIC, then press 1P START.
  2. Highlight EXPERT, hold 1P START, then turn the turntable clockwise twice.
  3. Let go of 1P START, turn the turntable clockwise once, then select EXPERT.
  • If successful, NAGUREO MIX, SLAKE MIX, and ANOTHER MIX will appear in the list on the course select screen.
  • If performing the code still does not unlock courses, the turntable wiring is reversed and should be corrected.
    • When the turntable wiring is correct, rotating the turntable clockwise increases the turntable value in the I/O TEST menu, and moves the cursor down on the MODE SELECT screen.
  • The unlocked state will not save between games, and the code must be entered each time.
