: This section could be a mini introduction.
These songs are written in red instead of black in the Select Music Screen.
'''DanceDanceRevolution''' (ダンスダンスレボリューション), abbreviated '''DDR''' and also known as '''Dancing Stage''' (ダンシングステージ) in select games and territories, is the second music video game series produced by KONAMI in the [[BEMANI]] series in 1998. It started initially as an arcade-only game but since received both home versions (both ports and exclusive versions) and various spin-offs. To this day, DanceDanceRevolution is the BEMANI series with the most titles released internationally.

Unlockable Songs

FINAL / EXTRA STAGE / ENCORE EXTRA STAGE

These songs are written in red instead of black in the Select Music Screen.

FINAL STAGE

Standard Mode: Getting an A on any song (on any Dance Level except BEGINNER) before the FINAL STAGE unlocks a special song for the FINAL STAGE, On The Break. The FINAL STAGE-only song difficulty will be same as the difficulty that the A was obtained on. In order to have more difficulty choices, multiple A's can be obtained on other difficulties before the FINAL STAGE. Or AA instead to unlock them all?
Battle Mode:

EXTRA STAGE

The EXTRA STAGE songs are set with a LIFE GAUGE with HOW MANY LIVES?

To access the EXTRA STAGE, On The Breaks or a song picked using Random should be cleared with a rank of A or higher first on the FINAL STAGE. Usually, SABER WING will be default song as EXTRA STAGE but other songs can be added when other conditions have been fulfilled:

  • SABER WING (AKIRA ISHIHARA Headshot mix): If the difficulties of the previous songs before the EXTRA STAGE added up to number found using a special formula (13 x Number of songs played + 1).

ENCORE EXTRA STAGE

For the first time, no modifiers are locked during the ENCORE EXTRA STAGE. To access the ENCORE EXTRA STAGE, the EXTRA STAGE song have to be cleared with a rank of AA.

The default song as ENCORE EXTRA STAGE is Horatio but other songs can be unlocked depending on which of the conditions below was fulfilled:

  • If SABER WING (AKIRA ISHIHARA Headshot mix) was the EXTRA STAGE then bounce will be also unlocked.
  • If the result value of the special formula (Sum of the songs dance level number > 13 x Number of songs played + 1) is true, then Trigger will be unlocked.

X-Special Charts

To celebrate the 10 years of the series, all the previous boss songs received brand new CHALLENGE-only charts. These new versions are known as X-Special songs. Although the EXTRA STAGE was introduced in DanceDanceRevolution, it only made a come-back in DDRMAX. Thus, only the boss songs from DDRMAX to EXTREME are exactly in the same order as they were in their original games. For the other games, the "hardest" songs from each game were selected instead. A total of 8 set of 2 songs each from DanceDanceRevolution to EXTREME, with also 2 songs representing DanceDanceRevolution X were made. The first set was released on December 24th, 2008 and on March 16, 2009 for the remaining sets. Each set have one EXTRA STAGE and one ENCORE EXTRA STAGE song. To unlock them, special conditions related to their series of origin have to be fulfilled.

After a while, the original set of conditions were "relaxed". On October 1st, 2009, all the X-Specials songs were added for normal play and can be found in DanceDanceRevolution X folder.
