General Information / Changes
- Introduced a new difficulty system, rating songs on a scale of 1 to 99 in difficulty. This would be used for the rest of the classic series, all the way up to GuitarFreaks V8 & DrumMania V8.
- The difficulty system was also unified, now featuring three difficulties: BASIC, ADVANCED and EXTREME. In drummania, not many chart changes were made, as the game already had three difficulties. However, in GUITARFREAKS, this resulted in the NORMAL and EXPERT difficulties being merged and, consequently, some charts being removed. The old EXTREME and EXTREME+ charts were also moved to the new ADVANCED and EXTREME difficulties.
- First of two games with MultiSession GDK, allowing you to combine GUITARFREAKS, drummania, and KEYBOARDMANIA together to play a handful of songs on.
- Secret note System was removed in GUITARFREAKS 5thMIX.
- Osamu Migitera makes his debut in the series.
- Long-time vocalists MAKI and Miyuki Kunitake join the series.
- System BGM is composed by Mutsuhiko Izumi and Hirofumi Sasaki, which would be used up to GUITARFREAKS 7thMIX & drummania 6thMIX.
- Total songs: 128 (84 in both, 24 only in GUITARFREAKS, 20 only in drummania)

For The Least 100sec, an S rank must be obtained in CLASSIC PARTY 3. ENCORE STAGE will be accessed immediately upon clearing the EXTRA STAGE.
