General Information

  • Released: October 2000.
  • First Pop'n Music game with Internet Ranking.
  • First appearance of Challenge Mode.
  • First appearance of 5-Line.
  • First appearance of Free Mode 2, which keeps track of the number of greats, goods, and bads you have. Pop'n Music 7 onward, however, show the number of greats, goods, and bads you have in a song in almost every mode.
  • First game in the series to let you set mods before each song.
  • First game in the series to have EX notecharts. Much like when Hypers were introduced, few songs have them.
  • First appearance of MZD as a remixer of songs, though he appeared in the series as early as Pop'n Music 2.
  • Last game to limit song selection to the stage number of your song.
  • Takayuki Ishikawa (dj TAKA) makes his debut, as does Osamu Migitera (Des-ROW) and Kida Shunsuke.
  • Sugimoto Kiyotaka starts writing his own music for the series. He would write multiple songs a game until Pop'n Music 8.
  • CG designer shio becomes a full-time staff member.
