General Information / Changes

• First beatmania game to keep track of your combo count.
  • GOODs break your combo.
  • GREATs flash if you have more than 10 combo, but this gives no bonuses.
• The score calculation in beatmania 3rdMIX is unique:
  • GOOD = 70,000 ÷ TotalNotes ÷ 5
  • GREAT (1-10) = 70,000 ÷ TotalNotes + 30,000 ÷ (45 + 10 × (TotalNotes - 10)) × (Combo - 1)
  • GREAT (11-more) = 70,000 ÷ TotalNotes + 30,000 ÷ (45 + 10 × (TotalNotes - 10)) × 10
• One of two games in the series (the other being beatmania) where EXPERT is accessed via a button command or modifier on the PRESS START screen, instead of by selecting it on a mode selection screen.
• A grade screen identical to the EXPERT screen is now displayed after completing any mode.
• EASY mode is now available. It differs from NORMAL mode in regards to the songs that can be chosen and when.
• Returning songs' genres are displayed "[classic]".
• HIDDEN and DOUBLE, introduced in the previous game, are now implemented as regular modifiers that are activated by holding down a button (instead of as button commands).
• Three new modifiers were introduced:
  • BATTLE, which allows two players to play the same exact chart, instead of a split chart as in regular versus mode.
  • MIRROR, which inverts the notechart (besides the scratches).
  • RANDOM, which randomizes the notechart of the song you're playing (besides the scratches).
• First BEMANI game worked on by Gyo Eguchi (VJ GYO), who became the chief movie designer of beatmania IIDX a few months later, a position he still holds to this very day.
• First BEMANI game released with the 1998-2003 KONAMI logo on the start-up screen.
  • However, older revisions of the game, along with the cabinet itself, still show the 1986-1998 Italicized KONAMI logo.
• beatmania 3rdMIX was released the same day as pop'n music, marking the first time two BEMANI games were released the same day in the arcades.
• FREE ZONE was removed.

Codes & Unlock Information

Codes

• To activate a play mode or modifier, you must do so from the title screen when either the "PUSH 1P START BUTTON" or "PUSH 1P START BUTTON OR PUSH 2P START BUTTON" message is flashing.
  • In this game you can combine certain play modes and modifiers, but some combinations require you to first insert at least 2 credits.

Play Modes

• EXPERT: Hold 1, then press START.
• DOUBLE: Hold 2, then press the START button that corresponds to the desired type of DOUBLE mode.
  • 1-Credit: If you press 1P START, you play a mode that is similar to FREE mode in certain games. You have two guaranteed stages and can pick any song that is listed (you must separately enter unlock codes for any songs that require them).
  • 2-Credit: If you press 2P START, you can play all normally accessible modes.

Modifiers

• BATTLE: Hold 3, then press START.
• HIDDEN: Hold 4, then press START.
• MIRROR: Press 8-10-8-7-6 three times, then press START.
• RANDOM: Almost the same as the above, except don't press 6 on the third time.
  • In other words, press 8-10-8-7-6, 8-10-8-7-6, 8-10-8-7

Song Unlocks

Believe again, nine seconds and area code

• On the title screen, turn the 1P turntable clockwise 2 times, hold 5, then turn the turntable counterclockwise 2 times and press Start.
  • This unlocks the songs for play in the regular modes, and the SPECIAL course in EXPERT mode.

ANOTHER charts

• Highlight either 20,november or Attack the music, then when the timer is at 11 seconds, press 1 and 6 at the same time.
  • Note that Attack the music doesn't have a DP ANOTHER chart.
