- The original versions of the songs are playable as well, denoted as "CLASSIC" on the song selection screen.
- All songs from beatmania ClubMIX have been removed.
- Song titles are now displayed as low-resolution grayscale artwork tinted according to the current song/chart type: NEW! songs are white, ANOTHER charts are red, and CLASSIC songs are brown.
- The beatmania CORE REMIX opening theme, titled CORE-DES, marks Osamu Migitera's first contribution to the beatmania series. His first playable songs in the beatmania series would appear nine months later in 6thMIX.
- Tomosuke Funaki also makes his beatmania debut.
- Last beatmania game to have Reo Nagumo as a staff member, who had left KONAMI the previous month.
- First beatmania game where EXPERT mode's default frame (COUNTER) shows judgment counters for the current song and highest combo across all songs.
- The MOVIE frame, which shows just the background movie without any judgment or combo information (just like in previous games), can also be selected instead on the course selection screen.
- Reintroduces the BM-II DOUBLE modifier that debuted in completeMIX 2 and renames it to IIDX DOUBLE.
- The modifier moves the 1P- and 2P-side play fields to the center of the screen when playing Double (to mimic the layout of Double Play in beatmania IIDX).
- Changes the values for the HI-SPEED 1/2/3 scroll speed modifiers from x2.0/x3.0/x4.0 to x1.5/x2.0/x3.0, respectively.
- These values would carry over through the rest of the series.
