beatmania IIDX
Release Information
- Release date: February 26th, 1999
General Information
- First game in the beatmania IIDX game series, a spinoff of the original 1997 beatmania. Features that differentiate it include:
- Two more buttons, for a total of seven overall.
- A more powerful hardware based on the Sony PlayStation, allowing it to play full motion videos, as opposed to limited color, sprite-based overlays.
- New effector buttons on the sides of the cabinet, including VEFX (with three main options, plus echo and surround sound), low/hi-EQ (low/high frequency components), and volume buttons.
- Only beatmania IIDX game that has PLAY OPTION on the title screen until beatmania IIDX 9th style
- Though officially named beatmania IIDX, it's often referred to as "1st style" by fans to keep it consistent with the numbering style of the later sequels.
- Songs are shown as records in the center of the screen, similar to the early beatmania games.
- Similar to beatmania complete MIX, only the genres and song names are displayed for songs. BPM display wouldn't appear on the music select screen until beatmania IIDX 2nd style, and artist names wouldn't until beatmania IIDX 6th style.
- First BEMANI appearances of Takayuki Ishikawa (dj TAKA), Keiichi Ueno, Takehiko Fujii (SLAKE), and Hirofumi Taniguchi.
- pop'n music 2 song Cherry & Raquel was originally for beatmania IIDX, but was moved to pop'n music 2 by request of dj nagureo.
- Number of songs: 32
