* Difficulties ratings are measured in "heels" rather than "feet". Each large heels represents a whole value, while a small heel represents a half value.
* Difficulties and modifiers can only be selected before entering song selection.
* Both players must play the same play settings in Couple/Versus mode by default.
** To enable separate play settings for each player, both players must be holding the X button as the second player joins in.
* A Step Up option (among Basic, Trick, and Maniac) is available that increases the difficulty each stage. It will only appear if the maximum stage count is set to at least 2 or higher.
** In Single/Couple/Versus play, the second-last stage will be on Trick difficulty and the last stage will be on Maniac difficulty. Any stage preceding these two stages will all be on Basic difficulty, if available.
** In Double play, the last stage will be on Trick difficulty with all preceding stages on Basic difficulty.

Unlock Commands

  • Heart Dance Gauge: During HOW TO PLAY, press the left, down, right, up arrows as they reach the step zone. If successful, the gauge will change from stars to hearts.

The following unlock commands only need to be entered once:

  • Super Maniac and Maniac Double Difficulties: On the title screen (with the flashing PRESS START), press and hold down, press and hold left, release down, press and hold up, release left, press and hold right, release up, press and hold down, release right, press and hold left, release down, press and hold up, release left, press and hold right, release up, press and hold down, press and hold left, release down, press and hold up, release left and press X. If entered successfully, the title screen background should change to blue.
    • Once unlocked, the background colour can now be toggled by pressing Select.
    • All difficulty ratings of these modes are displayed as question marks.
  • Little Mode: In the SELECT PLAY STYLE menu, place the cursor on any option in the SEQUENCE TYPE row. While holding X, press left three times.
  • Left/Right Modes: In the SELECT PLAY STYLE menu, place the cursor on any option in the MIRROR MODE row. While holding X, press left, right, left, right.
  • Super Hidden/Super Sudden/Stealth Modes: In the SELECT PLAY STYLE menu, place the cursor on any option in the HIDDEN MODE row. While holding X, press right six times.
  • More Arrow Types: On the Mode Selection screen, press X, then quickly press and hold X and press O or Start to enter any mode.
    • Once unlocked, one more arrow type can be unlocked: In the SELECT PLAY STYLE menu, place the cursor on any option in the ARROW TYPE row. While holding X, press down three times.
