- Soundtrack release date:
- beatmania IIDX Original Soundtracks: April 23rd, 1999
General Information
- Slogans:
- 時代を震わす鼓動を刻め!! (jidai wo furuwasu kodou wo kizame!)
- 1999 THE END OF MILLENIUM "ビートのモンスター"始動!! (1999 THE END OF MILLENIUM "BEAT no MONSTER" shidou!!)
- First game in the beatmania IIDX game series, a spinoff of the original 1997 beatmania. Features that differentiate it include:
- Two more buttons, for a total of seven overall.
- A more powerful hardware based on the Sony PlayStation, allowing it to play full motion videos, as opposed to limited color, sprite-based overlays.
- New effector buttons on the sides of the cabinet, including VEFX (with three main options, plus echo and surround sound), low/hi-EQ (low/high frequency components), and volume buttons.
- Only beatmania IIDX game that has PLAY OPTION on the title screen prior to beatmania IIDX 9th style.
- Though officially named beatmania IIDX, it's often referred to as "1st style" by fans to keep it consistent with the numbering style of the later sequels.
- The "1st style" name would later be officially used with the introduction of version song folders in 9th style.
- Songs are shown as records in the center of the screen, similar to the early beatmania games.
- Only the genres, song names, and BPMs are displayed for songs. Artist names wouldn't display until beatmania IIDX 6th style.
- The ending video features footage of beatmania BATTLE OF THE CLIMAX 1998, the first beatmania official tournament held at the AM Show '98 on September 20th, 1998.
- First BEMANI game to use the BEMANI logo and branding in-game during the attract mode.
- First BEMANI appearances of Takayuki Ishikawa (dj TAKA), Keiichi Ueno, Takehiko Fujii (SLAKE), and Hirofumi Taniguchi.
- First BEMANI game and IIDX style to allow the player to select an alternate version of the in-game frame (by changing the color with the START button before selecting a song or course).
- Number of songs: 32
