General Information

  • Released: March 2001.
  • First appearance of Battle Mode and Expert Mode.
  • First game in the series that allows you to play Challenge Mode on 5-Line.
  • First game to have Hi-Speed 3 and 4.
  • First non-standalone Pop'n Music game to include Animelo songs.
  • First game in the series where every new song has a 9-Line AND Hyper notechart. Prior to this game, some new songs still only had 9-Line difficulty, even though Hyper charts were introduced in Pop'n Music 3, and EX charts were introduced in Pop'n Music 5.
  • First game in the series to include the singing of ALPHA, who would sing many, many songs with Osamu Migitera (Des-ROW) over the years.
  • First appearances of Guitar Freaks mainstays Hideyuki Ono and Harumi Ueko (Jimmy Weckl) in the series, and Tomoyuki Uchida (Mr.T) writes music for the series for the first time.
  • Only game in the series to not give EX levels since their debut.
  • The Challenge Mode is more streamlined, and is now very similar to the one used in all the games since Pop'n Music 6 to this day.
