beatmania IIDX 2nd style
Release Information
- Release date: September 30th, 1999
General Information / Changes
- First style with BATTLE mode.
- First style with HI-SPEED, though only one setting is available.
- Maximum difficulty level raised from 5 to 7.
- BPM is now displayed for songs on the music select screen.
- Interface changed drastically from previous two games. Instead of records displaying one song name at a time in the center a la beatmania, a song wheel is on the right side of the screen, with the records on the left. The far right songlisting style is still used in the series to this day.
- Not counting beatmania IIDX substream (which is more of an expansion game), beatmania IIDX 2nd style is the only arcade beatmania IIDX game not to have its own standalone soundtrack. Instead, the three new substream songs and most of the 2nd style songs appeared on the beatmania maniac-tracks album. This album contained 2nd style songs, along with the new CS songs from beatmania APPEND YebisuMIX and the two new KONAMI originals in Dancing Stage featuring TRUE KiSS DESTiNATiON.
- However, four songs from 2nd style were not included on the OST: Bad boy, Junglist King, Panorama, and Shine On. These were all later included on the beatmania IIDX 3rd style Original Soundtracks album 7 months later.
- First BEMANI appearances of TaQ and good-cool.
- Final beatmania IIDX game that recycles beatmania videos. The next game replaced these videos with generic beatmania IIDX videos.
- Final beatmania IIDX game that can link with DanceDanceRevolution 2ndMIX, due to some songs being removed in the next game.
- One song (PUT YOUR FAITH IN ME (for beatmania II)) and two EXPERT Courses (dj TAKA and HEAVEN) can be unlocked by the arcade operator using a code.
- Two songs in the game require special conditions in order to play them:
- To play Junglist King (long), the player have to score 180,000 points or more on the 1st stage. The song will appear in the 2nd stage.
- To play dong-tepo no.1, the player have to get a score of 195,000 points with a PERFECT on the 2nd stage. The song will appear on the next stage.
- Slogan: "The escaping of the music beat." (譜面(ビート)の向こうへ駆け抜けろ。, BEAT no mukou e kakenukeru)
- Total songs: 71
