DanceDanceRevolution ULTRAMIX

Release Information

  • Platform: Xbox
  • Release Dates:
    • November 20th, 2003
    • March 5th, 2005 (Platinum Family Hits)

General Information / Changes

  • First DanceDanceRevolution title on the Xbox video game console.
  • DanceDanceRevolution ULTRAMIX is the only Xbox DanceDanceRevolution title to use the series' trademark songwheel interface, using a heavily modified DDRMAX2 -DanceDanceRevolution 7thMIX- as its source.
    • It's also the only one to use background animations from the arcade DanceDanceRevolution games. Beginning with DanceDanceRevolution ULTRAMIX2, the ULTRAMIX series would use its own generic video clips.
  • The design of ULTRAMIX drew influence from the DanceDanceRevolution 4thMIX title screen video and arcade marquee banner, featuring a similar color scheme and emphasis of a performing arts stage and stage lights.
    • Pre-release screenshots of the game show further influences from 4thMIX, including the pill-style lifebar design and additional characters, including MAID-ZUKIN and ROBO 2000. Neither of these were included in the released version of the game.
  • ULTRAMIX starts a trend in the Xbox titles where parenthesis in song titles are removed.
  • Similar to DDRMAX -DanceDanceRevolution 6thMIX- through DanceDanceRevolution EXTREME, jumps count as 2 steps for combo purposes. This would continue throughout all of the Xbox titles.
  • Unlike the arcade/PlayStation/PlayStation 2 DanceDanceRevolution titles, there are no stage numbers. You can play as many songs as you like without pause or options set.
  • ULTRAMIX features an unusual default song sort consisting of the licensed songs in alphabetical order, followed by the remaining songs broken into mostly alphabetized groups based roughly on the difficulty of their LIGHT charts.
  • Song list places little emphasis on new original songs relative to later Xbox titles, with only four licenses and four new KONAMI originals (the latter all by the same artist). Instead, the vast majority of the songlist consists of old DanceDanceRevolution songs and new BEMANI crossovers.
  • First CS DanceDanceRevolution release with DLC, allowing you to download new song packs at $4.99 each.
    • Song packs consist entirely of old DanceDanceRevolution songs and new BEMANI crossovers.
    • However, none of ULTRAMIX's DLC can be downloaded anymore.
  • The dancers no longer dance according to the song's BPM, instead dancing to a fixed speed. This would be the norm for every Xbox and Xbox 360 title.
  • Exclusive to the ULTRAMIX series is the addition of jiggle physics on the female dancer's breasts.
  • First DanceDanceRevolution title with two announcers, and the only one with both female and male announcers.
  • AFTER THE GAME OF LOVE is used as opposed to its instrumental version, AFTER THE GAME, that was used in DanceDanceRevolution KONAMIX.
    • This makes ULTRAMIX the only non-Japanese release of DanceDanceRevolution to feature AFTER THE GAME OF LOVE instead of AFTER THE GAME.
    • Conversely, ULTRAMIX still uses the edited version of THE EARTH LIGHT from KONAMIX with the female moaning removed.
  • No songs have BEGINNER or CHALLENGE charts, even those that had them originally.
  • Only CS DanceDanceRevolution release to show a song's length in-gameplay.
  • First DanceDanceRevolution release to support a widescreen (16:9) aspect ratio and 480p resolution.
  • First DanceDanceRevolution release to support 4-player gameplay.
  • First DanceDanceRevolution release to support online gameplay (via Xbox Live).
  • Total songs: 51 (plus 30 DLC songs)
