* Released: November 2001
Release Information
* First game in the series to keep track of greats, goods, and bads at the bottom of the screen.
* Release date: November 22nd, 2001.
* First game in the series to tell you the BPM of a song during the song.
* Soundtrack release date:
* First game in the series with Miss animation that fades into the background of the character who misses, instead of occuring automatically each time they miss a note.
** pop'n music 7 AC ♥ CS pop'n music 5: February 6th, 2002.
* First game in the series that shows you your combo count right above the pop-kun you hit, as opposed to the center of the screen.

* Jun Wakita starts writing music for the series.
General Information / Changes
* Tomosuke Funaki makes his Pop'n Music debut, as does Shoichiro Hirata.
* First pop'n music game to keep track of GREATs, GOODs, and BADs at the bottom of the screen in every mode.
* The official web site is the first one since Pop'n Stage which shows a picture of the character in a song AND their background in that song.
* The BPM for a song is now listed once again on the music select screen.
* The soundtrack is the first to include songs from console versions made 2 games prior to the current arcade version. In this case, the Pop'n Music 7 soundtrack contains songs from the PlayStation version of Pop'n Music 5. This trend has continued with soundtracks to this day.
** First pop'n music game to list the BPM of a song during the song.
* In addition, this is the first Pop'n Music to consist of more than one CD on its soundtrack (the Pop'n Music 3 vs. Pop'n Stage CDs don't count as they're seperate games).
** Also the last arcade pop'n music game to list the BPM of a song at the music select screen.
* The character designs from this game would later be used in the home-only Pop`n Taisen Puzzle Dama Online.
* Character animations (MISS/FEVER/etc.) no longer begin until a character's neutral animation has finished, both for player and rival characters. This has since been consistent in the franchise.
* Total number of songs: 94
** In previous games, hitting notes on a certain grade (GREAT, GOOD, or BAD) would change the animations instantly.
** According to staff member shio on the pop'n music 8 Q&A page, this was done due to the increased note density of more recent pop'n music games hurting the eyes of players due to the constant switching of animations.
** She also notes it was done for a secondary reason; to show more animations for high-level players, as opposed to them only seeing FEVER animations for an entire song on the left, and nothing but the MISS banner/animations for their rival on the right.
* First pop'n music game that shows you your combo right above the pop-kun you hit, as opposed to the center of the screen.
* First pop'n music arcade game with an unlock event; BINGO de 7!!.
* wac starts writing original music for the series.
* Only mainline pop'n music game to feature Hiroki Koga as a sound director.
* All licenses from pop'n music 6 received distinct MISS backgrounds.
* The official website for pop'n music 7 is the first one since pop'n stage which shows a picture of the character in a song and their background in that song.
* The character designs from this game would later be used in the console-only puzzle game pop'n 対戦 ぱずるだま ONLINE.
* The patent for the BINGO de 7!! unlock system was filed on November 12th, 2001.
* Total songs: 94

BINGO de 7!!
BINGO de 7!! is pop'n music 7's unlock event. It ran from January 16th, 2002 through February 13th, 2002.
At the end of a round of ARCADE while the event was on, you would see a 5x5 grid. The goal is to fill in special requirements to fill up a line. Once you get five lines matched up, you'll unlock something, such as a new song, chart, or expert course. There are 100 different possible requirements in all, each one numbered on the bingo grid.
Only songs new to pop'n music 7 are listed below.

Prior to the release of pop'n music 7, a poll was held on KONAMI's website as to what songs should get a remix in pop'n music 7. All songs from the very first pop'n music through 6 (plus the 4 CS games at the time) were eligible. Cry Out got the most votes out of all the songs listed, with a total of 845 votes, with 君を壊したい! second with 735 votes. (It never got a remix, though there was a Live version in pop'n music 8). Other strong songs included ROSE~恋人よ、薔薇色に染まれ (626), Homesick Pt.2&3 (601), 走りぬける君へ、Hurry up! (490), and 大見解 (465). At the end Cry Out, 龍舞~DRAGON DANCE, and 透明なマニキュア were remixed (despite 龍舞~DRAGON DANCE being in 69th place with only 44 votes), and Homesick Pt.2&3 got an extended version courtesy of pop'n music sound director Jun Wakita. (大見解 did eventually get a remix years later in pop'n music 16 PARTY♪, 大見解の新見解.)

Prior to the release of Pop'n Music 7, a poll was held on Konami's web site as to what songs should get a remix in Pop'n Music 7. All songs from Pop'n Music 1 through 6 (plus the 4 CS songs at the time) were eligible. Visual 2 (Cry Out) got the most votes out of all the songs listed, with a total of 845 votes, with Power Folk 2 second with 735 votes (although it never got a remix. However, there was a Live version in Pop'n Music 8). Other strong songs included Pop'n Music 2's Digi-Rock (626), Pop'n Music 5's Soft Rock (601), Pop'n Musc 6's Digi-Pop (490), and Pop'n Music 6's Hip Rock (465). At the end Visual 2, Night Out, and New Age were remixed (despite New Age being in 69th place with only 44 votes), and Soft Rock got an extended version courtesy of Pop'n Music sound director Wakita Jun.

Release Information

General Information / Changes

  • First pop'n music game to keep track of GREATs, GOODs, and BADs at the bottom of the screen in every mode.
  • The BPM for a song is now listed once again on the music select screen.
    • First pop'n music game to list the BPM of a song during the song.
    • Also the last arcade pop'n music game to list the BPM of a song at the music select screen.
  • Character animations (MISS/FEVER/etc.) no longer begin until a character's neutral animation has finished, both for player and rival characters. This has since been consistent in the franchise.
    • In previous games, hitting notes on a certain grade (GREAT, GOOD, or BAD) would change the animations instantly.
    • According to staff member shio on the pop'n music 8 Q&A page, this was done due to the increased note density of more recent pop'n music games hurting the eyes of players due to the constant switching of animations.
    • She also notes it was done for a secondary reason; to show more animations for high-level players, as opposed to them only seeing FEVER animations for an entire song on the left, and nothing but the MISS banner/animations for their rival on the right.
  • First pop'n music game that shows you your combo right above the pop-kun you hit, as opposed to the center of the screen.
  • First pop'n music arcade game with an unlock event; BINGO de 7!!.
  • wac starts writing original music for the series.
  • Only mainline pop'n music game to feature Hiroki Koga as a sound director.
  • All licenses from pop'n music 6 received distinct MISS backgrounds.
  • The official website for pop'n music 7 is the first one since pop'n stage which shows a picture of the character in a song and their background in that song.
  • The character designs from this game would later be used in the console-only puzzle game pop'n 対戦 ぱずるだま ONLINE.
  • The patent for the BINGO de 7!! unlock system was filed on November 12th, 2001. [1]
  • Total songs: 94

Let's make pop'n music 7 Together!

PaPaMaMa*7

Shortly before the release of pop'n music 7, a contest in Japan was held to anyone to name three of the game's new characters. The contest was known as "PapaMama * 7". Shortly before the game was released, the winners were announced, as well as the names of the new characters:
