DanceDanceRevolution 5thMIX

Release Information

  • Release Date: 2001

General Information / Changes

  • Introduces the song wheel.
  • First DanceDanceRevolution game to feature long versions.
  • First DanceDanceRevolution game to list BPM changes in a song.
  • First DanceDanceRevolution game to feature stops in a song.
  • First DanceDanceRevolution to feature a different in-song interface, with the top and bottom parts of the screen cropped to make room for score counters and a bar. This would continue to be used in the arcade series until DanceDanceRevolution SuperNOVA.
  • Last DanceDanceRevolution arcade game to feature dancing characters until the release of DanceDanceRevolution SuperNOVA.
  • First mainline DanceDanceRevolution game to run at 60 frames per second. (Dancing Stage feat. True Kiss Destination first featured 60 FPS, in 1999.)
  • Last DanceDanceRevolution arcade game to have Thomas Howard Lichtenstein as the announcer.
  • None of the licenses (except for the Dancemania-made remix CAN'T STOP FALLIN' IN LOVE (SPEED MIX)) ever appeared in another Japanese arcade DanceDanceRevolution release.
  • All of the game's song banners (new and old songs alike) are taken from the respective song's background before the song starts.
    • Songs from 5thMIX revived in later DanceDanceRevolution games would gain unique banners then, though.
  • All of the songs introduced in DanceDanceRevolution 3rdMIX Ver.KOREA were removed.
