beatmania IIDX 16 EMPRESS

General Information

Empress Location Test.jpg

  • Location test: 25 June 2008 - 1 July 2008
  • Release date: November 19th, 2008
  • Slogan: 超、頂、蝶、煌く (Chou, Chou, Chou Kirameku) Though it literally means "Super Sparkling Crown and Butterflies", it could be also read to mean "Super, super, super sparkly" due to a pun involving the word "chou" in Japanese.

Info / Changes

  • The interface is pinks and fuchsias, with a jewel and butterfly motif. The logo returns to the original "beatmania IIDX" one for the first time since beatmania IIDX 12 HAPPY SKY.
  • New songs are in pink text, and full combo splashes are now pink.
  • Some new sound effects on the menus.
  • HAZARD mode has been added, and is available by highlighting FREE mode and pressing the three black keys. In HAZARD mode, breaking combo will result in instant stage failure. However, the player is guaranteed four stages regardless of clear/fail status on the first three.
    • In HAZARD mode, the Clear Rate indicator will change to instead display Full Combo rate.
  • First IIDX AC game where all the new songs are given full Double charts.
  • First style to feature a different style of music for its extra stage system (EMPRESS PLACE) depending on which level of difficulty is chosen; the pitch shifts up to an eerier minor when the Another difficulty is highlighted.
  • Brings back the Fail Window from 10th style-DistorteD.
  • All dj nagureo songs made after 4th style have been removed from the songlist. Several BeForU songs were removed as well.
  • All non-licensed SLAKE songs have been revived, except for I'M FOR REAL and LOVE IS DROWING.
  • Release date is a play on 19,November, which was released 10 styles before in beatmania IIDX 6th style.
  • The OST contains a review of the entire soundtrack by top IIDX player DOLCE.
