General Information / Changes

  • A MINUTE (Extended Mix), IT'S RAINING MEN (Almighty Mix), MORE THAN I NEEDED TO KNOW, and THERE YOU'LL BE are missing from the arcade songlist.
  • Songs are now sorted in ABC order by genre on the songwheel, unlike the arcade version, which orders them by their LIGHT foot ratings.
  • The window for background videos is now a little expanded, removing the black borders on both sides of the screen.
  • All CHALLENGE-only remixes now use their new re-colored banners/backgrounds first seen in DanceDanceRevolution EXTREME.
    • They are playable outside of CHALLENGE MODE and are properly credited in courses, unlike the arcade version.
    • They also use new sample playbacks, which would be first used in the arcade series starting in DanceDanceRevolution SuperNOVA.
  • First Japanese CS DanceDanceRevolution title in the main series in which the arcade beatmania IIDX crossovers don't have to be unlocked.
  • Can unlock everything in DDRMAX CS through System Data Support.
  • DDRMAX2 -DanceDanceRevolution 7thMIX- CS is the only Japanese home port of a mainline DanceDanceRevolution arcade game in which none of its new CS songs were ever ported to an arcade release during the time the series was producing Japanese CS releases.

CHALLENGING MODE courses

Like its arcade counterpart, DDRMAX2 CS features CHALLENGE MODE. In this mode, you play a set of songs back-to-back with no breaks, similar to NONSTOP in earlier games. However, it works very differently:

  • Instead of the usual dance gauge, you have a battery with three marks on it. Each time you get anything lower than a PERFECT or GREAT, or break a freeze arrow, a part of the battery will deplete; four missteps results in an instant GAME OVER. The battery will refill between songs.
  • Mods cannot be set in this mode; you are locked into default colored arrows at 1X.
  • Your combo will only increase with PERFECTs.
  • Jumps count as one step, unlike in regular play.
  • Regardless if you fail or pass a course, you get an overall percentage out of 100 of your performance in the course, which can also be seen in the top left/right corners of the screen as you play.

Only the first three courses are available by default. The rest must be unlocked.

Unlock Information

Point System Unlocking

DDRMAX2 CS' unlock system unlocks songs based on what level you reach. As you play songs, you'll unlock a certain amount of points depending on how well you do in a song. Here's a rundown of how many points you get from a song depending on the difficulty level you play and clear a song with:

  • AAA: 10
  • AA: 8
  • A: 6
  • B: 4
  • C: 2
  • Fail: 1
  • EDIT charts give you no points.

After you obtain a certain amount of points, you'll unlock a song/course. What you unlock depends on what level you're at. All unlocks take 80 points to unlock, with the exceptions of Levels 26-29 (26 and 28 take 120, while 27 and 29 take 100).

Goal-oriented Unlocking

Aside from the point system, there is a second method to unlocking DDRMAX2's songs; meeting various requirements and goals as you play. The only exceptions are the CHALLENGE-only songs, which can only be unlocked through CHALLENGE MODE courses. Here are the following requirements for them:

Songs are listed in order as shown on the website. You CANNOT use Edit Mode to fulfill requirements for any of the songs.

  • MAXX UNLIMITED: clear on EXTRA STAGE.
  • 革命: clear on ONE MORE EXTRA STAGE.
  • AM-3P 303 BASS MIX: clear CUTIE CHASER MORNING MIX with an A or higher on any difficulty level, or watch the credits all the way to the end.
  • Look To The Sky(True Color Mix): clear SO IN LOVE with an A or higher on any difficulty level, or complete all default songs in the game on any difficulty level.
  • Do It Right(Harmonized 2Step Mix): clear Kind Lady with an A or higher on any difficulty level, or complete all default songs in the game on any difficulty level.
  • DROP THE BOMB -System S.F. MIX-: clear Burning Heat! (3 Option Mix) with an A or higher on any difficulty level, or complete all default songs in the game on any difficulty level.
  • DYNAMITE RAVE -Down Bird SOTA Mix-: clear TSUGARU with an A or higher on any difficulty level, or complete all default songs in the game on any difficulty level.
  • THE SHINING POLARIS: clear a STANDARD chart.
  • Jam&Marmalade: complete a song in DIET MODE.
  • PEACE-OUT: clear a Double chart.
  • OVERBLAST!!: clear any CHALLENGE MODE course.
  • I'M FOR REAL: clear any HEAVY chart.
  • LOGICAL DASH: save in Edit Library.
  • PARANOIA survivor: AA a song.
  • ENDLESS MODE: complete ONI COURSE 18: ULTRA12.

CHALLENGE MODE Course Unlocking

Hidden CHALLENGE MODE courses can also be unlocked by clearing certain previous courses:

  • From IIDX, LOVE SONG COLLECTION, DJ SOTA: clear either More Light, BeForU, or Nearly = 130.
  • Middle tempo, RAP MANIA, MIDNIGHT BLUE: clear either From IIDX, LOVE SONG COLLECTION, or DJ SOTA.
  • BPM140, TRICKY, Random: clear either Middle tempo, RAMP MANIA, or MIDNIGHT BLUE.
  • NAOKI PLATINUM, 乙女★道, UP AND DOWN: clear either BPM140, TRICKY, or Random.
  • 鬼道: clear either NAOKI PLATINUM, or 乙女★道.
  • 鬼道 弐: clear 鬼道.
  • ULTRA 12: clear 鬼道 弐.

You can unlock the CHALLENGE-only charts faster by doing the following:

  • Create a Course with ORDER 1-2-3
  • Put any number of songs in the course, all on ROULETTE
  • Press Circle to customize the ROULETTE songs, put them all on ONI, and apply the LITTLE mod.

Now you will play the ONI songs with much simpler charts, removing all but the quarter notes. Repeat until all 22 of them are unlocked.

EXTRA STAGE requirements

PARANOIA survivor

PARANOIA survivor is unlocked by getting AA on any song of any difficulty during any stage.

PARANOIA survivor will only appear during your FINAL STAGE, except if EVENT MODE is turned on, then PARANOIA survivor will appear during any stage.

EXTRA STAGE

To access the EXTRA STAGE you must AA your last song on HEAVY.

You will play MAXX UNLIMITED HEAVY on 1.5x, Reverse, and Dark. Your dance gauge, as usual in the EXTRA STAGE, will not go up as you play.

ONE MORE EXTRA STAGE

To access the ONE MORE EXTRA STAGE, you must AA MAXX UNLIMITED on HEAVY for your EXTRA STAGE.

You will play 革命 on CHALLENGE with Sudden Death on (one Good/Boo/Miss/N.G., and the song ends). You will be forced to play on x3, Reverse, and Dark.
