beatmania IIDX 17 SIRIUS

Release Information

beatmania IIDX 17 SIRIUS logo.
  • Location test:
    • May 27th, 2009 to June 2th, 2009
    • June 30th, 2009 to July 5th, 2009
  • Release date: October 21, 2009
  • Slogan: 音条の響、光条の輝。

General Information / Changes

  • Scraps the original typeface of the beatmania IIDX logo used in beatmania IIDX 16 EMPRESS.
  • Dark theme with shades of blue and black, similar to 10th style.
  • This is the first IIDX game since the original beatmania IIDX to not feature Naoki Maeda in any form on the new songlist or transplants.
  • New songs are highlighted in blue.
  • Full Combo Splash is now sky blue.
  • Has an electric BGM sound.
  • Introduces two new types of notes:
    • Charge Notes, where you hold down the key for a certain period of time and release it at the end of the note. Songs with charge notes have "CN" at the left of that songs title at the songwheel (the display of "CN" was later deleted in PENDUAL).
    • Backspin Scratches, where the player must continually spin the turntable in one direction and, at the end of the note, spin the turntable quickly in the opposite direction.
    • Both Charge Notes and Backspin Scratches give combo at the beginning and end of the note.
  • Introduces the LEGACY modifier, which converts Charge Notes and Backspin Scratches into regular notes and scratches. As this is an ASSIST modifier, using it on a chart with Charge Notes or Backspin Scratches will downgrade a clear, if achieved, to an ASSIST CLEAR.
    • No such downgrade occurs if LEGACY is used on a chart with no Charge Notes or Backspin Scratches.
  • First beatmania IIDX game with PARTY MODE.
  • First beatmania IIDX game with LEAGUE MODE.
  • First beatmania IIDX game where menu mode does not make a bigger text of the mode selected.
  • First beatmania IIDX game where its EXTRA STAGE system (PARALLEL ROTATION) uses BGM's from previous IIDX styles and includes CS songs from previous versions.
  • First beatmania IIDX game since DistorteD where the ONE MORE EXTRA STAGE songs don't have a special message in the LED ticker when played as boss songs and not in Free Mode.
  • The option window has changed significantly, showing in the center with one player and showing a list of all options for a key when changing the option for that key.
  • Introduces a new modifier that will indicate if you time a note too early (FAST) or too late (SLOW).
  • First beatmania IIDX game with the LIFT modifier, which raises the height of the playing field. It can be combined with SUDDEN+ (LIFT+SUD), but not HIDDEN(+) or HID+SUD.
  • Expert mode has animations for highlighted difficulty.
  • Total amount of songs: 578

PARTY MODE Features:

  • Only available for singles play.
  • For each "event", you are given a specific songlist with the goal of gathering fans.
  • 3 songs per play.
  • You can use options in this mode.
  • The number of fans you gathered is related to your EX score.
  • There are separate events, with events being unlocked as you gather more fans. As of now, there are six events, with five being locked from the beginning.
  • Seems to be a mode aimed for beginners, as nearly all the songs on the first three events are on BEGINNER difficulty.

LEAGUE MODE Features:

  • Only available for singles play.
  • Two leagues are available: Score League and Clear League. Only one league at a time may be selected per playthrough.
  • Five rank classes are available: S (highest), A, B, C, D (lowest), each with three subclasses (ex: S1 down to S3). Rank in Class Mode determines the starting rank of the player.
  • 4 songs per play.
  • You can use options in this mode.
  • In each playthrough, the player selects two songs within the class difficulty range, then two more songs are randomly selected for the player from a weekly pool of songs within the difficulty range.
  • A maximum of 500 points may be earned for each song, or 2000 points per playthrough. The points criteria depend on the league:
    • Score League: Up to 300 points for EX Score, 100 points for Clear Status, and 100 points for DJ Level.
    • Clear League: Up to 300 points for Max Combo, 100 points for Clear Status, and 100 points for Miss Count.
  • Depending on the class rank, the points from the best 2-4 playthroughs for a week are taken and added. The total number of points are compared to the week's cutoff totals to determine if rank increases, decreases, or stays the same.
    • No change in rank occurs until the required number of plays for the class rank are met for the week.
    • Once S rank is reached, failure to play League Mode for over a month results in demotion to A rank.
