Profile

Goli Matsumoto, usually known as simply GOLI, is one of beatmania IIDX's most, if not THE most, famous illustrators. Having joined the staff in early 1999 for beatmania IIDX substream, beatmania IIDX's iconic cast of DJ characters were all designed and illustrated by him. He was best known in the early games for his anime-inspired, cel-shaded art style, though his style has become more stylized since then, even venturing into dark black-and-white imagery and creating many monster designs as well as humans. His art has ranged from the classical Japanese art style evident in KAMIKAZE to the realistic style of the beatmania IIDX 12 HAPPY SKY ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK cover, reminiscent of an 80's pop idol album. His work has appeared in art books, and the arcade posters for beatmania IIDX are highly sought art collectors items. KONAMI has even said that GOLI is responsible for revolutionizing the design style of beatmania IIDX.

Outside of IIDX, GOLI has also appeared several times in pop'n music designing characters, the most famous of which is JACK from the similarly titled Jack, who has become one of pop'n music's more famous characters.

Goli is currently part of the beatmania IIDX design team.
