Release Information

  • Release Dates:
    • Japan: 12/25/2008
    • Europe: 6/3/2009
    • U.S.: 6/9/2009

General Information / Changes

  • Rating system expanded on, from 1-10 to 1-20. Older songs were re-rated to reflect this.
  • New announcers replace the one used in the series since DDRMAX.
  • Shock Arrows introduced on some CHALLENGE charts. Songs with Shock Arrows in their CHALLENGE charts show an icon near the banner when the chart is selected. Stepping on them results in your gauge going down, just like a misstep would.
  • First DanceDanceRevolution arcade game to feature songs from the HOTTEST PARTY Wii games.
  • To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the DanceDanceRevolution franchise, several old Dancemania licenses are revived with new charts and cuts. These are known as X-edits.
    • New Challenge-only charts named X-Specials are added for many old Konami original DanceDanceRevolution songs, though they show up as separate songs in the song list.
  • First DDR arcade game since the series' beginning to not have NAOKI or jun as the sound director; instead, it's the late Jason Michael "Stillwind" Borenstein, best known for his work in the ULTRAMIX/UNIVERSE series.
  • The U.S./European arcade cabinets were redesigned, often regarded as the worst cabinets ever produced in the series.
  • This release retired the Python 2 hardware used since SuperNOVA and replaced it with PC-based hardware (BEMANI PC). This improved the graphics quality of the game on all cabinets, and allowed 720p widescreen HD graphics on new cabinets, but also meant that the game was slightly buggier than its predecessors due to migration issues.
  • Total songs: 386 (Japanese)

X-Special Charts

Exclusive to the arcade version of DanceDanceRevolution X are X-Special Charts, which are old DDR original songs given brand-new, CHALLENGE exclusive charts. These charts are initially only playable in the EXTRA STAGE/ENCORE EXTRA STAGE. Each mix consists of two songs: an EXTRA STAGE, and an ENCORE EXTRA STAGE. There are 8 sets of songs from the first game through EXTREME (In the case of DDRMAX through EXTREME, the EXTRA/ENCORE EXTRA STAGE are in the same pattern as the original games' songs.) These charts are all listed under the DanceDanceRevolution X category, despite being old songs.

The first set of stages (for the 1st game) were added on 2/12/2009. The other songs were added to DanceDanceRevolution X on 3/16/2009, but were not unlocked until much later. To unlock the X-Special charts, you must complete certain requirements for your FINAL STAGE, usually relating to the mix of origin of the song set. All the X-Special charts were unlocked for normal play on 10/1/2009.
