Profile
A long-time BEMANI composer, Jun Wakita joined KONAMI back in April 1998, when he enrolled in KCE School's newly established Tokyo branch. [1] His first BEMANI project was 1999's beatmania IIDX substream as a notechart designer. He also served as the notechart designer in pop'n music 3, as well as various entries in the beatmania / beatmania III series. wac's first game as a sound director was the pop'n music spinoff game pop'n music アニメロ2号. Starting the following year, he became the sound director of the main pop'n music series beginning with pop'n music 6, a position he held for 13 years, until the end of pop'n music Sunny Park's run. wac continued to be a notechart designer in the series, and charted most of the anime covers in the series up to pop'n music 14 FEVER!.
wac's wide variety of musical styles has made him quite popular in the BEMANI community. He has dabbled in a variety of genres, including piano, folk rock, house, techno, and trance. He even released an album, 音楽, in 2012.
wac is currently the sound director of the ノスタルジア series.
Trivia
- In pictures and live interviews, wac often dons a suit or a mask of a black cat, expressing his thoughts either visually or through cue cards.
- wac's song/staff comments tend to be much longer than other artists and staffs on the BEMANI song pages he talks on.
- wac's grandfather was an art teacher in Hokkaido, as noted in the song comments for Regulus. He passed away before wac graduated from high school in the 1990's.
- wac notes in the peace page for pop'n music 8 (archived) how stressful the game was for him to make, compounded with him having moved from home and into an apartment during its development.
- He also notes the idea of the numerous crossovers featured in pop'n music 8 came when TOMOSUKE asked him to crossover some songs from MAMBO A GO GO into pop'n music 8. This eventually spun off into having a wider variety of BEMANI crossovers in the game.
- Unlike most BEMANI artists' main aliases, wac has used his main alias very rarely in BEMANI song titles' artist names; only thirteen BEMANI songs and a single solo song as of 2023 credit him under it.
- According to a BEMANI Fan Site interview in 2014, he uses different aliases "to fit the worldview of each song".
- wac's favorite song is the 1994 song 空も飛べるはず, a cover of which appears in ノスタルジア.
- Outside of BEMANI, wac remixed risette's 01 apple for their album, Extras. This remix is credited to his full name, Jun Wakita.
