General Information / Changes
- First DanceDanceRevolution arcade game on KONAMI's BEMANI Python 2 hardware. The result is far crisper picture quality and superior sound quality.
- However, the transition to the new hardware resulted in various timing issues, which were later rectified with an update disc.
- LIGHT, STANDARD, and HEAVY difficulties have been renamed BASIC, DIFFICULT, and EXPERT respectively.
- BASIC was previously used from DanceDanceRevolution to DanceDanceRevolution 5thMIX.
- DIFFICULT and EXPERT were previously used in DanceDanceRevolution CS (America) and DanceDanceRevolution USA.
- The difficulty panel has been changed, displaying all five (four in Double mode) difficulties on rows.
- The rows corresponding to charts that a song does not have are present, but dimmed.
- The panel was previously used in DanceDanceRevolution 5thMIX, but without BEGINNER and CHALLENGE levels.
- BEGINNER difficulty no longer uses dancers as assists and background movies are now allowed.
- First DanceDanceRevolution arcade game with animated backgrounds on the menu screens.
- Introduces Tutorial Mode, which shows lessons for beginning players. A player must step a correct pattern to continue to the next lesson.
- Also introduced is Battle Mode, based on the Dance Magic mode previously seen in Dancing Stage featuring Disney's RAVE.
- Jumps count as a single step for combo purposes once again, and has been the standard since in the arcade series.
- Some modifiers have been renamed:
- LITTLE, which removes steps that do not fall on a quarter beat, has been renamed to CUT.
- SOLO, which replicates the arrow coloring scheme used in the DanceDanceRevolution Solo sub-series, has been renamed to RAINBOW.
- The JUMP modifier has been added, and is turned on by default. Turning it off will not show the jumps.
- The NOTE modifier has been added, along with choices of modifiers VIVID, FLAT, and RAINBOW.
- First DanceDanceRevolution arcade game to receive a worldwide release.
- Backgrounds and generic background movies for songs have been removed. Instead, songs that don't have their own video instead have dancers dance in several different backdrops.
- Most of the unique videos from DanceDanceRevolution EXTREME2 were carried over to DanceDanceRevolution SuperNOVA.
- Playable characters return to the series in a Japanese/American release for the first time since DanceDanceRevolution 5thMIX and DanceDanceRevolution USA.
- The dance routines introduced in DanceDanceRevolution ULTRAMIX replace the old motion capture moves.
- Only one dancer is allowed in VERSUS play.
- All previous Dancemania licenses (except for the KONAMI original remixes) have been removed from DanceDanceRevolution EXTREME.
- In addition, all good-cool songs have been removed from the songlist.
- Final Japanese DanceDanceRevolution title to advertise Dancemania albums, as KONAMI would cut off of its deal with TOSHIBA-EMI shortly after this game's release.
- As such, DanceDanceRevolution SuperNOVA's soundtrack is the first full game soundtrack to be released by KONAMI themselves.
- Songs don't have little labels next to them on the banners next to them anymore that indicate what game/album they come from.
- On January 25th, 2007, the EXTRA STAGE and ONE MORE EXTRA STAGE songs were added to the default song list for normal play.
- First DanceDanceRevolution game where the first song under the current highlighted folder will be automatically selected if countdown timer's time is up. The player is not given the chance to press down Start button for options.
- First DanceDanceRevolution game to show a DANGER message on the life gauge.
- Last DanceDanceRevolution game to use fully filled up, non-refilling life gauge on EXTRA STAGE.
- First DanceDanceRevolution game to feature one life battery gauge.
- First DanceDanceRevolution game to show an animated circle behind the performance grade on the stage results screen.
- First DanceDanceRevolution game to show the stage result screen after a FAILED stage.
- First DanceDanceRevolution game to show the arrows decreasing its opacity upon reaching the stepping zone when using HIDDEN modifier and does the reverse of that when using SUDDEN modifier.
- Only DanceDanceRevolution game that shows top 50 selected songs by the players. DDRMAX, DDRMAX2, EXTREME, and SuperNOVA2 onwards show only the top 30.
- First DanceDanceRevolution game that can sort the song list by difficulty.
- First DanceDanceRevolution game to hide the actual BPM of a song by showing random 3-digit (all three digits are identical) BPMs on the song selection.

EXTRA STAGE
Like the last three arcade DanceDanceRevolution titles, to access the EXTRA STAGE you must AA your last song on EXPERT or CHALLENGE difficulty. If you play on EASY or MEDIUM MODEs, you get Healing-D-Vision. Play on DIFFICULT or ALL MUSIC, and you get Fascination MAXX or Fascination ~eternal love mix~. Regardless of which song you play, you'll be forced to play with SPEED set to 1.5x, the SCROLL set to Reverse and the ARROW COLOR set to RAINBOW. Your dance gauge, as per usual in the EXTRA STAGE, will not go up as you play.

ONE MORE EXTRA STAGE
To access the ONE MORE EXTRA STAGE, you must pass either Healing-D-Vision or Fascination MAXX as your EXTRA STAGE. You will then start playing CHAOS with the LIFE GAUGE set to RISKY (one Good/Boo/Miss/N.G., and the song ends) with no modifiers possible.
