Its design is similar to CARDINAL GATE from beatmania IIDX 13 DistorteD. Once the player has met the requirements for at least one song, a special Replicant D-action folder will appear during EXTRA STAGE only, containing all songs (between one and six) that the player has met the requirements for. Once opened, it cannot be exited. Gaining access to all six songs requires about 30 credits or fewer, depending on how efficiently the player is able to stack the requirements. Inside the folder, a special background music plays, blocking the player from hearing any song previews. While playing each song, the player's dance character battles a RINON clone of the song's color, who appears as a secondary background dancer. As such, the event's folder can only be accessed in Single or Double Play and not in Versus Play.
If the player clears one of the six Replicant D-action songs on EXPERT with a AA, they will earn a medal of the song's color. Once the player has earned all six medals (one from each song) in any order, the results screen of the sixth song will lead to a special cutscene depicting the camera zooming in on "The Dark One", immediately followed by an ENCORE EXTRA STAGE announcement, with the song locked to Valkyrie dimension on EXPERT difficulty (making this the seventh Replicant D-action song). As such, the player has no time to set options for Valkyrie dimension and must use the same options as their previous song (the one they just earned the sixth medal on). However, it is still possible to use the left and right buttons to change speed modifiers at the beginning of the song.
Regardless of whether the player passes or fails Valkyrie dimension, they will lose all six medals. To play Valkyrie dimension again, the player must reobtain them (thus the song can only be played once every six credits).
On August 31st, 2010, the mechanics of the event were changed slightly. It is now possible to obtain medals by getting a AA on BASIC or DIFFICULT (in addition to EXPERT); however, Valkyrie dimension's difficulty will still be locked to EXPERT. In addition, any arrow-removing options that the player has set on their sixth medal song (namely CUT1/CUT2, Jumps Off, and Freezes Off) will be unset for Valkyrie dimension. This fixes an exploit where it was possible to play Valkyrie dimension's EXPERT chart on CUT2 (making it much easier) by obtaining the last medal on Sakura Sunrise with CUT2 on (where Sakura Sunrise uniquely has few enough 12th notes/16th notes/etc. to be possible to AA with those notes removed).
On November 2nd, 2010, the VS REPLICANT boss course was unlocked, making it possible to play all 7 Replicant D-action songs in a row in one credit, on LIFE8 (all songs are played on DIFFICULT) or LIFE4 (all songs are played on EXPERT). This marks the first time it is possible to play Valkyrie dimension every credit instead of once per six credits, as well as the first time its DIFFICULT chart is accessible (in addition to its EXPERT chart).
On February 23rd, 2011, the Replicant D-action event ended (making the special folder no longer accessible), and all seven songs were unlocked for normal play. This marks the first time it is possible to play Valkyrie dimension's BASIC and BEGINNER charts. In addition, CHALLENGE charts for the last four songs were unlocked for Marathon Mode.
On April 1st, 2011, the four CHALLENGE charts that were previously Marathon Mode-exclusive were also unlocked for normal play.
In the Western releases of DanceDanceRevolution X2, due to the releases not supporting e-AMUSEMENT (required for player information to be saved across credits), the unlock mechanics of the seven Replicant D-action songs were drastically simplified. On release date (December 31st, 2010), all seven songs were locked. On July 28th, 2011, the first three songs were unlocked for normal play and the VS REPLICANT course was unlocked (allowing access to the remaining four songs). On October 1st, 2011, the remaining four songs were unlocked for normal play.

EXTRA STAGE / ENCORE EXTRA STAGE
The EXTRA STAGE system is different from the previous games. To unlock the EXTRA STAGE this time around, you must now AA/AAA all of your songs in one game session. There are no FINAL STAGE-exclusive songs in X2.
Doing so unlocks KIMONO♥PRINCESS as your EXTRA STAGE, although what difficulty level you can play the song on depends on how many stages you play and how many difficulty levels the songs you play are.
Here are the required number of difficulty levels required to play KIMONO♥PRINCESS' charts, depending on the number of songs you play. From left to right point requirement-wise: BEGINNER, BASIC, DIFFICULT, and lastly EXPERT. Note that reaching a certain amount also unlocks the difficulty levels under that, too.
- 2 songs: 1-12, 13-18, 19-26, 27-38
- 3 songs: 1-18, 19-27, 28-39, 40-57
- 4 songs: 1-24, 25-36, 37-52, 53-76
- 5 songs: 1-30, 31-45, 45-65, 66-95
Getting a AA or higher on KIMONO♥PRINCESS unlocks the ENCORE EXTRA STAGE, roppongi EVOLVED. Note that are several versions of the song; which version you get is random. You can't choose another song or difficulty other than EXPERT for your ENCORE EXTRA STAGE, though you are allowed to set your options.
Both KIMONO♥PRINCESS and roppongi EVOLVED were unlocked for regular play on January 26th, 2011.
EXTRA STAGE
ENCORE EXTRA STAGE
Replicant D-action
Replicant D-action is a new EXTRA STAGE event in DanceDanceRevolution X2, which began on launch date (July 7th, 2010). Its design is similar to CARDINAL GATE from beatmania IIDX 13 DistorteD. By fulfilling certain requirements, the player can unlock a special folder with up to six new songs. Each song is represented by a color, and the requirements for each are listed below:
- Pierce The Sky / JAKAZiD feat. K.N.
- Cyan. Pass 20 different songs in the DDR X2 folder (other songs in the Replicant D-action folder also count).
- Sakura Sunrise / Ryu☆
- Green. Pass 2 different songs in each game folder (12 folders in total).
- Shiny World / CAPACITY GATE
- Yellow. Pass 5 different courses and 1 drill course (the same course played on multiple difficulties does not count. ORDER courses (custom courses) also do not count).
- Anti-Matter / Orbit1 & Milo
- Blue. Play Trial Mode 3 times (both players must pass), then play Pierce The Sky and Shiny World on the same difficulty to unlock that one difficulty for Anti-Matter.
- New Decade / Sota F
- Orange. Full combo 15 different stepcharts (can be same song, but full comboing a course does not count), then play Sakura Sunrise and Shiny World on the same difficulty to unlock that one difficulty for New Decade.
- POSSESSION / TAG underground
- Purple. Pass songs on CHALLENGE difficulty until their total levels are at least 100 (the same song can be played multiple times), then play Pierce The Sky and Sakura Sunrise on the same difficulty to unlock that one difficulty for POSSESSION.

Chinese CHALLENGE Charts
For these particular songs, the original Japanese version is used on all the difficulties except CHALLENGE. The CHALLENGE charts use the Chinese version of the song. The jacket and artist name change on the Results Screen but not on the Song Selection Screen. For the two songs that were not released in X2, they were kept in their original release folders.
